Minimalist Rustic North Carolina VRBO Wedding at Sugar Mountain House

April 8, 2019 | juliette

Minimal details, a cozy ceremony in a barn, and the prettiest spring color palette…yes, you could say we’re totally obsessed with Chloe and Gabe’s rustic-chic North Carolina VRBO wedding! The couple rented Sugar Mountain House for their day and poured their love and attention into making it all about community and togetherness. Even with a last-minute ceremony change from the beautiful outdoors to the coziest barn, this wedding felt as natural and as effortless and as joyful as possible! Michelle Lyerly Photography was there every step of the way to capture not only the big moments but the in-between magic that made this day truly one-of-a-kind.

The Couple:

Chloe and Gabe

The Wedding:

Sugar Mountain House, Banner Elk, North Carolina

The ceremony was otherworldly! It was so intimate and tender. We had expected to get married outside, but the weather had other plans. So we got married in a tiny little barn, which ended up being so much better than we could have planned. Everyone we loved was so close and snuggled up on wooden benches and I could see everyone so clearly. It was such an emotional supernatural 20 minutes. It was perfect!

The pastor who married us counseled us for 8 months before our wedding day. He knew us. And because of that, he was able to make our ceremony authentic to us. He knows our hearts and our dreams and our passions. There was so much laughing but there were so many tears. I think something that makes a ceremony personalized is when the bride and groom know everyone there. We made the decision early on that there wouldn’t be any plus ones, and it was definitely the right decision. I wanted to be at the altar looking into everyone’s eyes knowing they knew either me or Gabe on a deep level.

Our photographer was a dream to work with! Michelle became a friend during our engagement, so we felt so at ease with her throughout the day. She was so calm yet on top of it. I knew that every moment was going to get captured. I was able to just be. She captured the most ridiculous moments, which is perfect because we are ridiculous. And then she captured these incredibly emotional and deep moments. She captured us.
