After meeting and falling in love in NYC, Hana and Mike knew they were destined to get married in the city, which made their wedding at PUBLIC Restaurant that much more special. The restaurant venue offered the modern look they love, an all-inclusive experience for their guests, and required very little decor to make it look incredible in the images captured by Lindsay Hackney Photography. They had a cozy ceremony, a cool bar, and a dinner party-style reception all in one industrial chic space. The biggest decor piece they added was the asymmetrical ceremony backdrop made of protea, laceleaf, monstera, and a variety of greenery that Apotheca Flowers made to match the bride and bridesmaid’s distinctive bouquets. For the reception, they relied on simple greenery centerpieces, good food, and sentimental honey favors from Thistle Dew Farm to create a memorable night. Of course, it wouldn’t be a true New York wedding with killer fashion! Hana did not disappoint in her Oscar de la Renta gown and statement earrings, and Mike looked sharp in a tailored blue suit from J. Crew.

PUBLIC Restaurant, New York City, New York

Our first decision that came very naturally to us was to get married in NYC. We met here, and feel like we became ‘us’ here, so getting married here felt natural. We also wanted to invite all our friends and family to experience the city that we love so much. 

We chose to get married at a restaurant because we wanted the whole experience to feel like an awesome dinner party with great food and wine. Since we were both working full time but also planning the wedding ourselves, we wanted to find a venue that was as all-inclusive as possible, including having the right ‘look’ that didn’t require too much decor. After looking at a ton of venues in NYC, all thanks to Mike‘s dedicated research, we walked into PUBLIC and just knew it was perfect. They had the right warm industrial feel, amazing lighting, delicious food, and just the right amount of space. We didn’t really need to debate much after that.

We pretty much wrote the entire ceremony ourselves. After looking and saving numerous articles from the internet, we gathered two laptops and went to our favorite local bar. Over beers and tater tots we put together wording that felt exactly right. It was such an interesting experience – we literally though through each word and its significance. It took some time but was so worth it because we could know that it was exactly what we wanted to be said on the day of our union.

We gave our guests honey from my aunt and uncle’s honey farm in West Virginia. The honey we chose is named in honor of a cousin who passed away when we were still children and the benefits of the honey go towards a scholarship in his name. Having something that was tied to him felt like the right way to have him there with us on our wedding day
