Positively Idyllic Canary Islands Wedding at El Escudero

February 20, 2018 | colleen

Ana and Glen’s Canary Islands wedding was full of elegant charm. Inspired by James Bond films, Glen wore a white jacket and black pant combo from Suits Supply that had him looking like he came straight from the casino. Ana’s Pronovias wedding gown was full of delicate details that add to the sophisticated vibe of the day. She also wore a gold Anton Heunis hair accessory and held a lovely bridal bouquet styled by The Federicas. These two stunners celebrated along with their friends at family at El Escudero, which provided subtle tropical and elegant vibes. All of these details went together flawlessly thanks to long-distance planning done by Ana and The Federicas. Photographers Dallas and Sabrina were there to capture Ana and Glen’s romantic wedding and celebration and they didn’t miss a moment!

The most memorable moment was arriving the morning of the wedding day to the Spanish villa and seeing it in real life for the first time and getting emotional at seeing how beautiful it was! (I did all my wedding organizing long distance via WhatsApp, FaceTime and Skype!) I also really really enjoy getting ready with all my bridesmaids and with my mum. So so fun and lovely!

I would really recommend to set a budget from the beginning. That way you can go check and look at the things in your price range and you don’t get distracted or lose time looking at things you can’t afford booking or getting.

I choose my venue because I always wanted to get married in the place where I grow up which is in Spain in the Canary Islands. A lot of family and friends came from abroad and had never been to Canary Islands, so I wanted to show them the beautiful villas in the countryside. I chose this villa as a venue because it looked romantic, colourful, and had a great island landscape.

I had a bilingual wedding ceremony – my entire family is Spanish and my husband’s family and our friends are all English speaking. Only 2 or 3 people spoke both languages which meant my whole wedding had to be translated in Spanish and English. I chose the best translator there is which was my bridesmaid Layla. This made the two sides ( the Spanish and the English speaking sides) mix together and get to know each other and love each other. That for me was so unique and very heart-melting. Also, my husband’s dad read a beautiful poem which was also translated as he was reading it.

Our wedding day fashion ended up looking like a classy James Bond movie in a Spanish Island! My dress was from Alterier Pronovias which is a wedding dress brand that I always had dream of wearing for my wedding since I was very young. I chose that dress because it had a very sophisticated top with a lot of detail – I love detail! It had a beautiful back and also a comfortable skirt with a very long trail. Because the back was naked and beautiful I could put my hair up and put a beautiful gold hair accessory.

My husband wore a creamy white tuxedo suit jacket with black trousers so wasn’t all white. He got his best man and groomsmen to wear black tuxedos which made it look like a classy James Bond film.

I choose my bridesmaid dresses to be of a peach blush colour and to be each one different from each other to look more fun and different.

Working with Dallas and Sabrina was the best experience ever! Well it was love at first sight. They are the sweetest and most caring photographers. Not only that, they are each one so professional. We love that there were two of them and that they could get every angle in camera like facing the altar, from the altar, etc. Each photo is like a piece of art and I am so glad we got to put the canvas there for them to create it. I couldn’t be more happy and glad I found them and choose them to do our wedding photos.

The most important was that the decoration had to be like a fairytale-James Bond film.

This Couple Exchanged Vows in an Intimate Forest Wedding at Pacific Spirit Regional Park

February 19, 2018 | colleen

Jaimie and Scott’s wedding at Pacific Spirit Regional Park was perfect for their intimate elopement! The two had a handful of family fly in from all over the world to watch as Jaimie and Scott exchanged vows in the forest. After exchanging their Minichiello Jewelers and Michael Hill rings, they headed over to their cake table for celebratory shots and the signing of their marriage license. After some killer couple portraits by Bake Photography, Jaimie and Scott had a private dinner at Coast with their families to celebrate the joyous occasion!

The Couple:

Jaimie and Scott

The Wedding:

Pacific Spirit Regional Park, Vancouver, BC

I was running late to the ceremony site and didn’t think we’d have time for a first look. Our photographer was there to calm me down, help me breathe, and enjoy a quiet moment with Scott. She made taking every photo fun and enjoyable.

We wanted have a ceremony that was intimate and captured the beauty of Vancouver for our elopement. I used to walk the trails of a park near our first apartment here because it was so quiet, peaceful, and a great escape from the city. Pacific Spirit Regional Park is covered with giant firs and maples, moss, and gorgeous ferns. With that beautiful backdrop, we didn’t really need to decorate. A small clearing off of a trail seemed like the perfect location.

I always wanted a laid-back and intimate outdoor wedding with as little traditional pieces as possible. Neither of us are comfortable being the center of attention, so this gorilla-style pop-up wedding was the perfect way to share our love with our closest family. Because photos were going to be especially important to us, we spent a lot of time staging the site.

There were only two retailers in BC that reflected my taste in non-traditional dresses. Mine was made by Anais Anette, a Canadian company that focuses on clean and feminine lines. It felt very garden-like and was very me. I wore a gold, diamond-encrusted necklace, which belonged to my mother, and a few dainty pieces from Swarovski. I wanted my hair and make-up to be loose, feminine, and natural.

I gave Scott a Charles-Hubert pocket watch with our wedding date and his initials engraved on it so he would have something special from that day.

There was a moment walking down one of the trails in the woods where we stopped, turned towards each other, and Scott kissed my forehead. It was a moment where we were focused on one another, everything else just disappeared, and Melissa captured it perfectly.

We all love seafood, so we had our wedding night dinner at a local restaurant called Coast. Everyone filled up on oysters, sushi, lobster tails, chowder, fish, and steak, The staff treated us with some champagne and delicious chocolate covered honeycomb for dessert.

This Black, Burgundy, and Gold Desert Botanical Garden Wedding is a Total Showstopper

February 19, 2018 | colleen

Kacia and Tony’s Desert Botanical Garden wedding has the most perfectly modern, rich color palette. After planning the wedding herself, Kacia and Tony turned to Hitch Without a Glitch to take the reins for day-of coordination. With everything going seamlessly behind-the-scenes, Kacia and Tony were able to relax and be fully present in their day. After their first kiss as husband and wife, they headed to the reception where they enjoyed delicious bites from Atlasta Catering and Salted Caramel Catering. As the celebration continued, Ray the DJ kept people on the dance floor! Photographers Jonnie and Garrett and videographer Kyle Hustis beautifully documented the lush details and sweetness between Kacia and Tony.

Jonnie and Garrett, The Petal Theory, and Tremaine Ranch were all musts for me. I have enjoyed the work of these professionals for years! So much so that I provided them with the general vibe I was looking for, and let them do the rest. I knew their vision was in line with my own, trusted them, and could not have been happier with the way everything turned out. They rule.

Choosing wedding colors was the biggest challenge for me. I tried to make so many different colors work for the decor and the bridal party and none of them felt right! Once I finally decided to stick to my guns and put the bridal party in all black, it felt like us and everything else came naturally from there. The groom, of course, wore an incredibly sharp burgundy suit because there’s nothing he can’t pull off. Our wedding date was embroidered inside!

We knew we needed an outdoor location for both the ceremony & reception – we love outdoor weddings. We had considered a few other venues, but as soon as we walked thru the Desert Botanical Garden together we were in love with it. The garden captures all of the beauty of a desert landscape, especially with the red mountain & sunset backdrop setting at their Ullman Terrace.

A wedding day happens in moments that all truly fly by. I buzzed the entire day! Take the time to pause and enjoy each moment. I’d heard from friends and family members that they didn’t remember their ceremony because of all the excitement & nerves. I was definitely SO excited and so nervous but our officiant, the groom’s sister, had everybody deliberately pause to take it all in. I will forever remember that and I am so grateful.

Jonnie and Garrett are amazing people and such incredibly talented photographers. They truly know – and will do – what they need to do in order to capture the day and ALL of the feels! Plus, we had so much fun with them that we asked them to stay and dance with us after their time was up. Of course they agreed!

Time, quality time, was the most important thing to us when planning our wedding. We wanted it to be a fun night spent enjoying food, drinks, and music with the people that we love most! We incorporated the traditions that were meaningful to us and did away with the rest, allowing us to be present and have fun with our family and friends.

The groom is a first-generation American whose family left Bulgaria just a few years before he had been thought-of. The bride’s family had been in Arizona for generations & generations. It was a really cool moment when an upbeat Bulgarian dance song came on and everybody joined hands on the dance floor. Some knew what they were doing, others had no clue! It was unexpected, hilarious and so much fun.
