September 28, 2011 | editorial team

stylish handmade bridal hats, veils and hair accessories by Yestadt Millinery

I think that veils and hair accessories are by far some of the most fun pieces of wedding day fashion, so when the designers at Yestadt Millinery introduced themselves to me I felt like I had struck gold! Based in NYC, the Yestadt team aims to modernize the understanding of headwear with their unique mix of old world craftsmanship and contemporary style. Their new bridal collection just recently launched and includes soft vintage-looking lace, delicate cage veils and other creatively constructed hair accessories that I just can’t get enough of. If you love what you see, you can order directly from the Yestadt Millinery website and via BHLDN.com, or you can work with the designers themselves to have a custom wedding look made just for you. How dreamy!

Take a look at this fun video showing how the new Yestadt Millinery Bridal Collection came to be…

And because they’re just too delicious not to show as well, here are a few of their other designs from their Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer collections. The designs are a little like Bonnie and Clyde meets early Madonna meets that fabulous girl you always see at the coffee shop who’s style is just achingly good!

The Couple: Connie and Stewart

The Wedding: 6.10.11 – The Richard Nixon Library – Yorba Linda, California

What three adjectives that best describe your wedding? High-fashion, sophisticated, chic

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? Our wedding was inspired by high-fashion details – think Vogue meets weddings. Fashion has always played an important part of my life. I grew up in a family and ethnic culture whereby fashion has always been an integral part of who we are and how we represent ourselves as women. As a stylist and lover of all things fashion, I wanted to incorporate these elements into the finer details of our engagement session and wedding. Our engagement session was like a mini-fashion shoot; the images were used as the designer marketing that one would see in a Vogue or Elle magazine. Needless to say, our wedding programs essentially mocked mini Vogue magazines. We both wanted fashion details that were classy and sophisticated, yet clean and chic, as we believe that that best represented our styles. It was just a matter of being able to successfully implement these details in the wedding.

What it was like to shoot all those fabulous fashion images with your photographers? Shooting with our photographers was absolutely amazing! We currently live in the Bay area, so we got lucky that they were willing to make the journey up here for this. They really made us feel comfortable and at ease, but at the same time very professional – as if weve been modeling for years! It really made the whole high-fashion concept feel like it was coming to life – which was very exciting.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? It would probably have to be just seeing all the details we wanted to finally unfold at the wedding; to have guests be able to enjoy the hard work that youve reaped and sowed in all the months prior. Seeing the final print of our programs, seeing the smiles and tears on everyones faces at the wedding, and finally being able to catch your breath at the end of the night and saying to your husband, O.m.g., I cant believe we made this all happen! It was perfect!

What was your wedding color palette? Black and white with gold accents

Fresh and Modern Chevron Print Wedding Decor Inspiration Photo Shoot – Holland Photo Arts

September 26, 2011 | editorial team

Welcome back from your weekends Junebug readers! Since Mondays can so often feel, well, like Mondays, I’m excited about today’s post. It’s so full of fresh wedding ideas, truly happy couples, and all kinds of prettiness, it’s sure to erase some of those beginning of the week blues.

Washington DC and Virginia wedding photographers Anne and Bill Holland of Holland Photo Arts collaborated with Jamie Sears of Simply Chic Events and a number of other fantastic local Charlottesville, Virginia wedding professionals to create this creative inspiration shoot of a proposal, an engagement party, and a wedding, and although we don’t show too many of these, I couldn’t pass this one up because of their approach. In order to keep the shoot more authentic and attainable, they used real couples they have worked with before. You may remember the adorable Maya and Josh from their Wedding Style Post, and the shoot’s main bride and groom are makeup artist Lora and photographer Eric, who were married in 2008, also at the beautiful Clifton Inn.

Each part of the shoot tells a story, and shows how your personal style can be easily woven throughout all your wedding events. I love seeing how they used the modern chevron print in such a soft and feminine way throughout, I adore that slinky and sophisticated wedding dress, and I especially love the shortcake slider station at the end of the post. Simply brilliant!

From designer Jamie Sears of Simply Chic Events: Our initial source of inspiration for the shoot was the grey and white chevron pattern. We wanted to showcase something “fresh” and with a modern element. There were three parts to our shoot, which ultimately told a story. The first scene was the proposal, which was a picnic scene under a tree. The second scene was a dinner/engagement party at home with the bride and groom’s best friends, and the final scene was the wedding. We wanted to not only do an inspirational shoot but tell a story, as well. Additionally, we made sure to incorporate the chevron pattern into each scene (even if just in a subtle way).
