What three adjectives best describe your wedding? love-filled, natural, and fun

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? We wanted the wedding to be appropriate to the place where we were getting married. It was going to be outside in the Hudson Valley at this beautiful and quirky inn, that also has a small farm on the grounds. We wanted it to feel like it made sense there. Karen Bussen, our wedding planner, incorporated a lot of things we love on the tables, including fruit and beeswax candles as well as summer flowers, giving it a general country feeling. We wanted there to be a lot of color and a lot of music, so that people would dance and have a good time.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? My husband said from the start that he wanted to get married under a tree, so we set out to find the right tree for the occasion. We found this beautiful hidden spot in a small town in the Hudson Valley that was perfect. It has a  working farm, with a small orchard and an inn that is filled with charm. We felt like we just wanted to stay there forever. We decided to take a lot of time with the save the dates and invitations. We wanted something whimsical, but with a vintage touch that captured the place where we were getting married and the feeling we wanted the day to have. We also wanted to make sure that we showcased the incredible food available in the Hudson Valley in the summer. In terms of the aesthetic details, I loved having beeswax candles and fruit on the tables, as well as colorful summer flowers, like snapdragons which have been my favorite flowers since childhood. I felt that the colors and smells matched the place and how we were feeling. In terms of the ceremony, we decided to write our own vows and not to read them to each other until the ceremony. But, we agreed that we would each end on the same line. I loved how this allowed us to surprise each other with our thoughts and feelings, but it also allowed us to feel unified in what we were saying to each other.

Wedding color palette? We had a lot of colors at our wedding. The invitations were green and golden brown, the bridesmaids wore cornflower blue (the groomsmen wore a similar color tie) and the flowers were summer colors including pinks, yellows, oranges. We didn’t really want to be restricted to just one or two colors and I think it worked!

Wedding Day Desserts – Mini Tarts from früute!

February 21, 2012 | editorial team

yüum!  Today I have something beautiful AND delicious to share. früute is a little gem of a dessert shop, located in West Hollywood. Their one-of-a-kind, handmade tiny tarts are like edible jewels…gorgeous, colorful, and sparkly with flecks of gold and shiny berries. They describe their offerings as “couture tarts…a delicious little moment of artistry”.

früute’s little tarts are exquisite on their own, but are even more elegant and glamorous in this gorgeous dessert buffet constructed of Lucite stands. I love the idea of beautiful hand-crafted sweets for an event, and the tiny size makes them perfect for sampling several incredible flavor combinations. What a treat for your guests!

The tarts pictured above, from top, are Budino, with butterscotch pudding in a chocolate crust topped with a caramel macaron; Creme Brulee with a torched apricot and peach; and Tiramisu topped with a handmade chocolate straw.

Los Angeles Foodie described the früute store as “The Apple Store of Desserts”. So true! I love how the spare, modern decor lets the tiny tarts shine.

What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Contemporary, Artful, FUN!

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? Both Steve and I love clean lines and a modern look.  We were 99% set on a different venue when we decided to take a look at Terzo Piano, located in the Art Institute of Chicago. The moment we saw it we knew we were going to make the switch and even had to change  our date to make it happen.  With the perfect venue, everything else seemed to fall into place. The beautiful architecture, interior design and, of course, the art, made for the perfect foundation to start from. It was the epitome of the modern style that I love, so it made decisions for complementing floral and decor elements easy.

Most important to us though, was the overall vibe of our wedding. In the end, we just wanted everyone eat, drink, dance to great music, and have as much fun as we were. The band was great; they got everyone dancing all night. Our choice to have elements like the food stations, gelato bar for dessert, outdoor photo booth, and a candy station for favors was all so that everyone could move around and socialize all night, Steve and I included. We didn’t want to get too caught up in the formalities that can take over a wedding.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? We were a little taken aback when we first learned that the art installation on Bluhm Terrace, where our ceremony was originally supposed to take place, was not going to be the usual sculpture, but instead a boldly colored vinyl. It covered the entire space – glass walls, floor and all. We chose the move the ceremony inside to Griffin Court , which is a beautiful contemporary setting itself, and kept the Bluhm Terrace as the locale for our cocktail hour. Though we originally envisioned an outdoor ceremony overlooking Millennium Park, what we ended up with was even better. We essentially had three unique settings within the one venue we selected, and the Restless Rainbow art installation created by artist Pae White became a unique and vibrant backdrop for our cocktail hour and a great conversation point for our guests.

We were also really happy with our decision to keep everyone moving between food stations etc. It kept the night very fluid and lively, and seemed to create more mingling time in a night that went by in the blink of an eye.

Wedding color palette? Plum; white with pops of kelly and lime green.
