I recently learned about the jewelry company 31 Bits when they launched their new bridal collection of fabulous layered necklaces and bracelets, and what a thrill to hear that their mission goes far beyond fashion! According to 31 Bits, they are a “a socially responsible organization that uses fashion and design to empower women in Uganda to rise above poverty. The jewelry is made out of 100% recycled paper by women in Uganda, giving them the chance to earn an instant income as well as providing them with different development programs so that they can become self-sustainable.” A fantastic mission if we ever heard one!
Check out their new collection in these photos (some from their beautiful look book photographed by our pal Jasmine Star) and learn more about their organization and order online at www.31Bits.com. Because how often are you able to buy amazing accessories and feel just as good about where they came from as how they look?
I love seeing wedding submissions arrive here from all around the world, and this wedding from Warsaw, Poland totally took my breath away! Its edgy and photojournalistic wedding photos by Lukasz Bak of Velvet Studio are different than what we generally showcase here on What Junebug Loves, but they so perfectly represent couple Ola and Jacek and the feeling and atmosphere of their wedding day that I simply had to publish them. And no photo layouts or collages today either, just a selection of images, one by one, and the delightful back story from bride Ola. Enjoy!
The Couple: Ola and Jacek
The Wedding: 5.14.11, Wedding Palace and Belvedere Restaurant – Warsaw, Poland
What three adjectives best describe your wedding?Unpredictable, spontaneous, passionate.
What was your wedding color palette?Everything around the forest
What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day?Lily of the valley came to us first, as we were looking for an elegant symbol, but also an unpretentious one. We felt that the forest theme was meaningful to us – birds, wood, and the smells from our childhood, and we were not wrong. Everything felt elegant but very natural. Also, Belvedere is full of trees and exotic flowers, so we did not want to change what was so special about the location.
Your wedding photography is wonderful – very photo journalistic and documentary style. How did you choose your photographer Lukasz Bak, and what was it like working with him?We recommend Lukasz to everyone we talk to. He is all you could dream of on your wedding day. He was like a little elf, so his photos are even more mysterious – how could we have not noticed him during the wedding? And we are the luckiest people on the planet earth – we have the most amazing photos we’ve ever seen. Those photos are more than we could ever have imagined. We are more than sure, that the photos taken by Lukasz will be still extraordinary and moving to us in the future. In our opinion Lukasz is one of the most emotionally intelligent artists, and we very much appreciate what he has given us.
Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? The moment when our bus broke down, the moment when our best friend was late to the wedding (as we were too!) but she was pretending not be, that was hilarious. Also our withered flowers, as it was too hot for them. The Nigerian guys playing barefoot on the traditional drums, the food we never even tasted, leaving the wedding at the 6 a.m. barefoot, tired and happy, riding in a taxi back home with no money…
What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today? To calm down and stay relaxed as much as you can. To leave a huge space in your mind for unexpected situations, to concentrate on everyone but not yourself, to give others happiness and to stay filled with positive emotions. I realize that is the hardest thing to do when you have so much on your mind – but this is an absolute must if you want have a good memories from your wedding.
Happy Monday morning! I’m starting the week off with the perfect Monday medicine…Vanessa and David’s colorful, joyful Colorado wedding day that was held at stunning Beaver Creek Resort in the Rockies. The thrilling mountain vistas and brilliant hues they selected for their wedding day fashion and decor combined to create a happy celebration of their love for each other and the outdoors!
The Couple: Vanessa and David
The Wedding: 6.18.11 – Beano’s Cabin – Beaver Creek, CO
What three adjectives best describe your wedding day?Simple, elegant and fun
Was there a decor theme that ran through your wedding? What was the inspiration for that particular idea and how did it reflect you as a couple? We got married in the mountains because we both love it there and wanted to show our love of the outdoors to our guests, who were mostly from out of town. We also wanted to keep the wedding simple and not stuffy. But we made sure it was really fun too, with the help of our ten-piece band flown in from Chicago! Given the natural beauty, we kept our flowers simple and picked colors, like pinks and oranges, that would pop out on the green hills.
What were some of the different ways you used decor elements to create the beautiful, cohesive event you were envisioning? We had small vases with flowers running down the table, not trying to compete with the mountains, but add some color to the table. We served lamb, trout and chicken…local Colorado food that Beanos is known for.
Looking back, do you have a favorite project or successful decor idea from your wedding? Tell us what you loved about it!Looking back, I just love the setting we picked. Our wedding was so special, and I think having the reception half-way up the mountain at a cabin was perfect. Also, the white lights in the clear tent for dancing looked great!
