Pantone, those wizards of color and trends, just released their Spring 2012 Fashion Report. You can kind of consider it their “report back from the runway” from Fashion Week, which recently took place. The report is fascinating – they’ve compiled all the trends and innovations they saw into a lookbook of colors. The majority of the report is composed of sketches of couture fashion with notes from the designers concerning the color trends.
Three of the colors – Alloy, Tender Shoots, and Tidal Foam – reminded me of a gorgeous photo by Eric Uys, and the lovely color palette it contains that seems to be a perfect transition from summer to fall. Throw in one of my all-time favorite Vera Wang gowns, some pretty earings I just received for my birthday (amazing in person!), one of the most elegant flowers, white delphinium, and you’ve got the perfect fall inspiration!
Dana describes her elegant California wedding to Michael as sparkly, but nothing is as sparkly as the smiles on their faces! While I love all the gorgeous decor planned by La Fete Weddings, and the amazingly lush centerpieces of hydrangea, tulips, and orchids by Cody Floral, it’s those smiles that really get me. I can’t even look at the gorgeous photos from Stephanie Hogue without getting a huge grin on my own face. These two are so happy it’s contagious!
The Couple: Dana and Michael
The Wedding: 6.30.12 – Montecito, California
What three adjectives best describe your wedding day? Loving, delicious, sparkly!
Was there a decor theme that ran through your wedding? What was the inspiration for that particular idea and how did it reflect you as a couple? I wanted purple as our main color theme because I think it looks lush and elegant, and goes so beautifully with the setting that we chose: the blue sky and pool, green grass and trees. Sparkle became a theme after I chose my wedding dress. I love to be girly and glam. We told our guests in the invitation to bring their own sparkle as well.
What were some of the different ways you used decor elements to create the beautiful, cohesive event you were envisioning? My father made a beautiful hanging cake stand that my mother decorated with purple silk flowers. It was one of my favorite elements of the wedding. Our cake designer put a sparkly band around the cake, and our florist added beautiful real flowers to the top of it- it looked like a work of art. Our linens and flowers were different and beautiful shades of purple- they were such deep and rich tones that it enhanced the sparkly touches we added.
Where did you choose to hold your wedding, and how did the location influence your decor decisions? We were married at a private estate that my mother found. Shes a magician! It was such a beautiful property with such an incredible view, I think even if we didnt do anything it would have been gorgeous.
Looking back, do you have a favorite project or successful decor idea from your wedding? Tell us what you loved about it! I loved everything! Besides the hanging cake, I really loved the stars we hung from the trees. They looked so beautiful as it became darker outside. And the view of beautiful Santa Barbara was amazing. Truthfully, I think I had little to do with how well the day turned out. I said I want purple and sparkle, I want to pick my dress, and taste the food, and I put the rest in the capable hands of my mother and Colette Lopez. Although I am very girly, I am easily overwhelmed by details. I knew my mother (a Santa Barbara wedding photographer) has seen hundreds of weddings and her taste is classic and beautiful. She knows what I like and what has been done to death, and had great ideas to make the day unique. As for Colette – I dont know how anyone plans a wedding without her! She was so creative and 10 steps ahead at all times. It was really the two of them that put this wedding together. I feel like I simply showed up and enjoyed the nicest wedding I had ever been to!
Jenny and Maz’s Ireland wedding was filled with history, sentiment, and numerous tributes to the past. They were married in the same church that Jenny’s parents had wed in years earlier, and followed with a celebration at her childhood home. The couple made their invitations, just as Jenny’s parents had. Her choice of a 1940’s inspired dress was just one more way of honoring those that have shown them what lasting love looks like!
The Goals: From Bride Jenny – We wanted our wedding to be simple, and we didn’t want to be stressed. Its such a special time and should be enjoyed, rather than worrying about things that dont matter in the bigger picture. It was also important to have really good food and fun music, so we could dance into the early hours.
The Vision:We wanted it to have a bit of a vintage feel. It was a country wedding, with the reception in the garden. The marquee had bare floorboards, the ceiling was lined with fairy lights and we used lots of flowers from the garden so it had a rustic feel. It was exactly what we had wanted with beautiful light and splashes of colour on the long rectangular tables! Eunice Power catered for the wedding and people are still talking about how delicious the food was. My friend Hanna made the cake which was awesome it was red with white piping, and had chocolate biscuit cake inside! A delicious work of art!
The Look:My wedding dress was from The Vintage Wedding Dress Company in London, and was inspired by the 1940s. It was satin with a cowl neckline and scoop back, and had detachable lace scalloped sleeves and a puddle train. It was very fitted bu The bridesmaid dresses I found in different shops ranging from Valentino to H&M! The junior bridesmaids are from Mini Boden. A lovely lady named Katie Carter made my veil in London. I wanted really soft tulle with a delicate lace trim. What she made was stunning, and just what I wanted.
The Moments:A special moment for us was when my brother Charlie, who was MCing, announced us into the marquee. We walked in surrounded by all our favourite people – everyone grinning and clapping and cheeringa pretty special moment!
The best bit of advice we were given was to, every couple of hours, take a step back, just the two of us, and take it all in because its all over before you know it.
The Pros: Please visit Jenny and Maz’s page in our Real Wedding Library for all of the details on the people that contributed their talent to this amazing day!
