Beach Wedding in Queensland, Australia from 37 Frames Photography – Cortnie and Matthew

January 24, 2013 | editorial team

For anyone suffering a case of the winter blues, today’s wedding is the perfect medicine! As I’m writing this, I’m surrounded by fog (day 5 of fog!) here in Seattle, so Cortnie and Matthew’s beautiful beach wedding at Little Cove Beach, Noosa in Queensland, Australia is like a shot of sunshine right into my veins. The couple took full advantage of their incredible setting and left any thought of formality behind. I love the sweet images of the bride and her maids testing out the water in their gorgeous white lace dresses. Enjoy this winter pick-me-up from the talented (and incredibly sweet!) ladies at 37 Frames Photography!

What were the top three priorities for you in planning your wedding? We wanted to keep it simple, effortless, and beautifully beachy – we love the Hamptons style with its white and water colour palette, so we used that for our style inspiration. We wanted the guests to enjoy, relax, and celebrate with good food, a beautiful location, and great music. We also wanted the ceremony to be natural, down-to-earth, and about us.

What wedding traditions or cultural traditions did you incorporated into your wedding and what did they mean to you? We both come from families that spend a lot of time at the beach – so it was a significant part of both our upbringings. Noosa, Little Cove has many fond memories for us, and it was important for the backckdrop to speak for itself. We incorporated a few key touches in our decor and ceremony to get the “Hamptons meets Noosa” theme across.

Were there any places where you broke the rules in your wedding planning? Why and how did you do that? I don’t think we followed any rules – we just went with what we thought best represented us as a couple and what we would enjoy on the day.

What was your biggest wedding planning success? I loved every single detail and the planning of the wedding – I think the whole day was a success! Seeing the ideas come to fruition on the day was fantastic. However if I had to single out one success, it was the floral decoration. I created my own flower arrangements and bouquets, so the hard work the day before made it come together beautifully. It was very special.

What was the most important thing that you learned through the wedding planning process and what would you tell other brides-to-be? I would tell brides to be true to themselves and follow their vision. It is so easy to get carried away with the details – but I believe that sometimes, less is more.

California Wedding at Villa Contempo from April Smith & Co. Photography – Roselie and Ryan

January 22, 2013 | editorial team

Roselie and Ryan’s wedding day at beautiful Villa Contempo in Orange, California, was as sunny and romantic as can be! I love the crisp, happy, yellow and white color palette they chose. It beautifully complemented Villa Contempo; and the soft touches of gray that showed up in the wedding party’s attire and the sweet succulents that were tucked into the lush arrangements added the perfect bit of soft romance!

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? My husband and I have been together for 10 years and have lived together for 6 of those. We already felt married and simply wanted our wedding day to be a fun celebration (pretty much a huge party) that perfectly reflected us as a couple. We are a completely non-traditional couple with mixed backgrounds, distinct taste in music, and what we consider to be a fun, hip style. I think our wedding day reflected that – we had ding dongs at the candy bar, glow sticks on the dance floor, and our baby (dog Riley) join us down the aisle.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? Since we are neither a religious nor traditional couple, we were originally least concerned about the actual wedding ceremony. All that changed when we began working with Terrence, our wedding officiant. He worked with us to create a wonderful and personalized wedding ceremony that was not only humorous and loving, but was able to incorporate my husbands Irish and my Jewish and Armenian backgrounds while keeping the ceremony light-hearted and comfortable. To this day, everyone still mentions what a wonderful, personal, and memorable ceremony we had.

A happy accident that turned out for the best was that I forgot my veil at home on the morning of the wedding. I actually loved the look of the dress without a veil. It was much more modern and fun!

What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today? Dont let the wedding make you forget what you are really celebrating: starting a life with your new husband! Have fun, dont stress, and take every moment in! Just like everyone says, the wedding will be over in a blink of an eye so enjoy every moment.
