Timeless Classic Wedding Party Style with Photos by Sachin Khona Photography

July 24, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

While we are all for modern and fashion-forward wedding attire, there is also something wonderful to be said for traditional bridal party fashion that never goes out of style. With a streamlined black and white color palette, Angela and Colin’s style is the perfect example of how to achieve a look for the entire wedding party that exudes timelessness, and the images from Vancouver wedding photographer Sachin Khona capture it all wonderfully.

The Goals: For our wedding we knew that we wanted the reception to feel like an elegant dinner party for our guests. We also knew that we wanted it to feel timeless, so we chose a black and white palette that focused on our monogram. Keeping in line with the timeless look and the black and white palette, we chose a classic silhouette for the bridal gown, beautiful floor length black chiffon Vera Wang gowns for the bridesmaids and classic black tuxedos for the men.

The Bridal Look: My everyday style is very classic, I prefer a timeless look and love all things Jackie O or Chanel inspired. That style was the inspiration for my bridal look. I knew a ball gown with simple yet intricate details would be the perfect dress for me. My dress was picked out by my sister, and was the first wedding gown that I ever tried on. It was love at first sight! The full satin skirt and sweetheart neckline created the perfect silhouette, and the beading on the waist was just the right amount of embellishment. My earrings were by Vancouver designer Elsa Corsi. I wanted something that would compliment my dress and other accessories without competing with them, and she worked with me to find just the right pair. My favorite thing about the dress was the way it flowed out behind me as I walked down the aisle on my dad’s arm. It was a moment I will always remember.

The Bridesmaids’ Look: I wanted my bridesmaids to feel as beautiful and comfortable as possible on the wedding day, and the black chiffon Vera Wang dresses were the perfect choice. The dresses were floor length and beautifully fitted, and the girls were absolute visions as they came down the aisle. My friend Jasmine Hoffman has been my makeup artist for years and she did a beautiful job of showcasing each individual’s natural beauty. They looked so stunning! I was a very lucky bride to have such beautiful women standing beside me. Brianna Errelat styled everyone’s hair, and as each sister’s personal style varies, she kept their hair styles similar but gave each girl her own unique design. Each bridesmaid was given a sparkly pair of Elsa Corsi earrings which completed their look.

The Men’s Look: There is nothing better than a man in a perfectly tailored suit, so a classic black tuxedo for Colin and the groomsmen was the obvious choice for us. The white flat folded pocket square gave the tuxedos an updated look and fit in with the classic look of the overall wedding design.

The Advice: Once you’ve decided on your wedding venue and the style of your day, you should choose bridal party attire that will complement both the venue and your bridal party. It is your day, but be sure to choose something that everyone looks great and feels comfortable in. Overall, have fun and enjoy each moment of both the planning and the wedding day. The more organized you can be with the planning, the more relaxed you will be on your wedding day.

Secret Garden Wedding in Baltimore with Photos by L Hewitt Photography – Lea and Matt

July 23, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Lea and Matt’s wedding was the perfect magical garden celebration, as if it was a scene straight from the pages of The Secret Garden. Being one of the bride’s favorite novels, elements of the story were flawlessly incorporated into the décor that simply overflowed with romance. The result was exquisite, and it was all beautifully photographed by L Hewitt Photography.

The Goals: We wanted our wedding to be very much “us”. We asked for very little help planning the wedding because we wanted to make sure we stayed true to ourselves.

The Design: As a school librarian, I am always influenced by literature. Our wedding atmosphere and decor was based on one of my favorite books, “The Secret Garden”. The book was published in 1911 and deals with issues of companionship and love and emphasizes the magic of the natural world and all around us. I was inspired by the following quote:

“And one knows it sometimes when one stands by oneself in a wood at sunset and the mysterious deep gold stillness slanting through and under the branches seems to be saying slowly again and again something one cannot quite hear, however much one tries. Then sometimes the immense quiet of the dark blue at night with the millions of stars waiting and watching makes one sure; and sometimes a sound of far-off music makes it true; and sometimes a look in someone’s eyes.”

The Look: My wedding look was very old-fashioned. I wore the Madeleine gown by Claire Pettibone. It had a gorgeous silk lining and cream lace overlay. I wore a cathedral length veil made from English tulle and a single gold bangle that my mom had given me. I went with a traditional red lip and eyeliner. I wore my hair up with a braid because I was told it was good luck to wear a braid on your wedding day.

The Moments: One of the most romantic and special moments of the day was our handfasting ceremony. We did not have a religious ceremony but wanted to include a bit of tradition. We had our maid of honor place a handfasting ribbon over our clasped hands and our officiant read a passage about our commitment to each other before we spoke our vows. It was really beautiful. After the wedding, our maid of honor used the handfasting ribbon to create the border for a shadow box that she filled with memories from our day.

The Advice: The best advice I can give is to be true to yourself. Your wedding day represents your commitment to your significant other and it should be indicative of your love and how you want the world to see it manifested. Be true to yourself and your relationship!
