Industrial Brooklyn Loft Wedding

October 7, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Lindsey and Sean’s Brooklyn loft wedding proves that industrial wedding venues bring the romance, while also showing off the couple’s modern vibes. Soft roses lined the tables, strings of bright bulbs hung overhead, and the bride and groom exchanged their vows beneath a chuppah delicately crafted with silk handed down from Lindsey’s grandfather. Photographer Therese Winberg was right there to capture the sweet laughter between the bride and groom, as well as the warmth shared by family and friends.

The Couple: Lindsey and Sean

The Wedding: Greenpoint Loft, Brooklyn, NY

The Inspiration: “The venue was so raw and wild that we just let it dictate an “anything goes” philosophy. We didn’t really have colors or a theme – the boys and girls were in black and gray, the venue was brown, and the tabletops had chalkboard table runners that gave everything neutral backdrop. We allowed everything else to just pop – bright reds and yellows mixed with pastels.”

The Moments: “Walking into the venue and seeing how it all had come together, but especially seeing the chuppah for the first time. Because we insisted on doing so much on our own, the week before the wedding was insane. Like, I was a mess until the rehearsal started. But the day of the wedding, I was in a perfect little bubble and left everything up to the caterer, our genius day-of coordinator, and my amazing friend, Marley O’Brien, who helped me design and execute all the florals and decor. The one thing I left entirely up to Marley was the chuppah. I had several yards of silk that my late grandfather brought back from the Korean War, with the idea that one of his daughters would use it to make a wedding dress. It went unused and is now too old and delicate to be worn. I gave it to Marley and said, “Here is the canopy. Go for it.” The chuppah she made was the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. My mom burst into tears when she saw it. And now the silk can be passed down for chuppahs for generations to come!

And right NEXT to the chuppah was the applause sign. Sean was OBSESSED with having a remote control-operated applause sign that would set the tone for the evening. Between that and the fact that the bar was open upon guest arrival, we like to think our ceremony was really fun!

From the Photographer: “They started out in the amazing UNESCO city of Matera – just outside of Puglia, in the province of Basilicata. They strolled through the small streets, enjoyed wine, and were deeply impressed by the beauty of the city. A setting that inevitably led Damon to create amazing pictures of the newlyweds at sunset.

Afterwards, they drove to the gorgeous village of Polignano a Mare, on the other side of Puglia where they had dinner at the restaurant Mint. The chef, Fabrizio Silini, was impressed by the lovely pair and their photographer. They got to talking and he knew exactly the place to take photos that would create a real ‘Italian’ feeling. The next day he was kind enough to join them as he directed them to a nearby, yet hidden, lime orchard of signora Giuseppina Pagliarulo. They were again warmly welcomed and Damon was able to take more beautiful pictures.

When back in Polignano a Mare there was just enough time to shoot a few more pictures at the beach with the coastal cliffs in the back.”
