As the temperatures begin to get cooler, I find myself drawn to warmer colors. A burgundy and gold wedding is as rich and regal as it is enchanting. The dark red, often referred to as burgundy or oxblood, is a huge trend this fall, and it makes for the perfect pop of color for your autumn wedding. To keep your day bright, use gold accents throughout your floral design, table settings, and of course your bridal accessories.
There are so many ways that burgundy and gold can make an appearance in your fall wedding. How charming is the burgundy succulent on that place setting? Gold-painted pumpkins are a lovely way to include your favorite October gourd. A pair of suede pumps in deep burgundy and a matte shade on your nails keeps the color consistent without being overwhelming. Even the groom can get in on the fun, as burgundy flowers add a masculine chic to his boutonniere.

Before summer wraps up for good, we’re excited to share another brightly colored wedding with you. Megan and Marcus planned a vintage-inspired barn wedding at Historic Taylor Barn and didn’t miss a single detail. The bride’s bohemian floral crown was elegantly draped in orange, pink, and ivory ribbon, which made for one gorgeous hair accessory. I love the consistency of the vintage fabric used throughout their day, from the streamer backdrop during their ceremony to the quirky napkins and place settings at the outdoor reception. The sky must have been jealous of all the color, because a rainbow made an appearance while photographer Jana Marie captured portraits of the newlyweds.
The Inspiration: “We knew we would be relocating shortly after we got married, so it was important to us to make our wedding authentic and inspired by where we both grew up. Important touches from home were incorporated into every detail. The stone for the barn was cut from the hills outside Lawrence, KS. Megan wore her great-grandmother’s necklace. Nuns from the church where Megan‘s family volunteers donated the ribbon for our backdrop. The windmill blade is such a classic symbol of the Midwest we were really excited to incorporate.
The napkins were cut by hand by Marcus‘s mother, who also made the wedding cake! Megan‘s grandmother stitched the table numbers. Megan walked to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. We found our florist at the farmers market. Our photographer is a college friend of Megan‘s. The music was played by family friends. Dinner came from our favorite BBQ joint in KC (which happens to be in a gas station). The beer was local, including some that Marcus and one of his groomsmen made themselves. There were just so many intricate details that literally everywhere we looked we saw something that was important to us, reminded us of home and family, and just filled the whole environment with love and happiness. The whole celebration was meant to reflect each of us as individuals, our families, and our union.”
The Moment: “Both of us remember how amazing it felt when the brief thunderstorm let up after it looked like things were going to get even worse and gave way to a huge beautiful rainbow and sunny skies. It was only fitting since Megan walked to Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
With so many personal details and help from family and friends, we have no doubt color and love will follow Megan and Marcus wherever they go. Looking to plan a chic and fun wedding, while still rocking a budget friendly event, Brianna and Hans put together a sweet affair full of DIY elements at the dreamy Rancho los Cerritos in Long Beach. Their wedding came complete with orchids for their guests to wear, bocci ball, and an adorable stool to close the couple’s height difference during the ceremony. Photographed by Jessica Fey, Brianna and Hans’ nuptials could not have better captured the look and feel of an earthy chic affair.
The Inspiration: “‘Earthy chic!’ We put together our wedding on a little bit of a budget. We found ways to cut costs (drying our own flowers for table decorations and making our own place cards) in order to spend in other places (the venue and a photo booth). We were able to keep things simple knowing that the venue brought it’s own something special. We tailored the wedding to fit our personality as a couple (premixed music that we picked out with a DJ, bocci ball and croquet for the large number of children attending, a friend officiated the ceremony). We even had some surprises: I stood on a stool during our ceremony in order to be close to eye-level with Hans (he is 6’9″ and I am 5’7″).”
The Couple Recommends:“Our photographer! Jessica was laid back and easy going. She was virtually hidden during the wedding and reception. I was very nervous about a photographer in my face but I barely noticed her and her work is absolutely beautiful! I didn’t want to take posed photos, but she talked me into it and she was right! Also the venue: Rancho Los Cerritos. They were very flexible and allowed us to very much make the wedding our own. Last: Erynne who did my henna. She worked with me for weeks to find the design that I had imagined in my head!”
Thank you so much, Brianna and Hans, for sharing your absolutely lovely day with us. We wish you the best!
