Romantic Elopement in the Woods

October 16, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

For Megan and Ross, eloping was the practical decision, but that didn’t mean they had to have an ordinary affair. The couple set out for a romantic elopement in the woods of Gothic Valley in Colorado, accompanied only by photographer Geoff Duncan and officiant Evan Garrett. Geoff Duncan captured the absolute happiness and love the couple share, which is the most important part of a wedding, no matter the size. Speaking of size, the tall trees and gigantic sky of Gothic Valley set the backdrop in every image, making the memories of Megan and Ross’ wedding larger than life.

The Inspiration: “Ross and I both lead very busy but blessed lives. I think the main reason behind our decision to elope was just to keep something simple for a change. Trust me, I love to be the center of attention. That may sound bad, but it’s true. So most people would think that a huge wedding would be right up my alley. But really, we both just wanted it to be me and him, beautiful scenery, and an intimate getaway. That was exactly what we got! I work in retail so my dress was something I knew most of my energy would go into. I looked online at BHLDN and immediately found two dresses that were completely opposite of one another that I loved. One of them, was sold out in my size. So I figured it was just fate. Might I remind you that we were only engaged for three weeks before we got married — so I needed to be quick on the draw! Other than a few inches to trim off the bottom, the dress fit like butta. Ross is a very classic fellow. We knew a suit would be too much so I held my breath and let that man pick what he wanted. I was more than pleased. He looks pretty dashing in that vest wouldn’t you say?

The Moments: “Oh gosh. This is tough!! The entire day was a stinkin’ blast. Our “first look” was in an outhouse, our newlywed dinner was at a pizza place, and every time we got in a car there was a huge semi or some truck in front of us taking their sweet time. I’d have to say my favorite moment was when we were looking for the place we wanted to have the ceremony. We were just truckin’ along the trail in Gothic Valley, CO, on a mountain, in our wedding gear, and got to PICK where in that beautiful creation we wanted to say our “I-do’s”! I feel like a lot of people just get to pick which church, or which venue, they want to have their wedding at… but we got to pick which mountain. YES, PLEASE!

Wedding Inspiration – Pretty Paper

October 15, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Your guests’ first glimpse into your wedding day will be delivered to them via mail in the form of a save the date. This single element has the power to show your loved ones what your whole wedding experience will be about. From this one piece of paper will come an invitation, ceremony programs, seating cards, menus, and more. Choosing a design aesthetic that fits both your personalities as a couple and the theme of the day is important to create a sense of consistency throughout. Here is some inspiration for pretty paper for your wedding day.

Calligraphy is a big trend right now from chalkboards to table numbers, and especially on wedding invitations. You may decide to hire a calligraphist to design your paper goods, or there are lots of workshops you can attend to learn the beautiful art of handwritten calligraphy yourself.

Colorful accents in your save the date cards and invitations excite the recipients while also letting them know the color palette for your day. This is a fun way to let your guests start to visualize your wedding. If you’re still deciding on your color scheme, our color palette picker is a great way to see how different combinations look together and how they can be incorporated throughout your day.

Personal touches are the best way to set your paper goods and your wedding apart from anyone else’s. Using elements created by you personally not only shows off your style as a couple, but gives something extra special to your guests that you put not only thought, but also time into. Hand-drawn illustrations and handcrafted pieces go above and beyond the average wedding.

We love seeing how the way a wedding looks on paper can inspire the entire affair. For more wedding inspiration, check out our DIY wedding décor inspiration.

Laid-Back Urban Chicago Wedding

October 15, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Chicago-Wedding-Photography-by-Megan-Saul-Photography_1065

Photographer Megan Saul captured the laid-back spirit of Mirka and Brian’s urban Chicago wedding. City View Loft provided the perfect structure for the minimalist indoor ceremony and the romantic details of the reception. Mossy table runners, vintage cake stands, and a sweet pink and green color scheme covered the tables during dinner. We especially love the couple’s portraits Megan Saul snapped outside of the venue in the gritty downtown streets of Chicago, where Mirka’s soft beauty was amplified.

The Couple: Mirka and Brian

The Wedding: City View Loft, Chicago, IL

The Inspiration: Laid-back, romantic in an urban vibe.

The Moments: Involving our friends and family in our vows by seeking their blessing and support.
