Geometric Inspired Irish Wedding

We love that even after looking at the most beautiful weddings in the world, we can still fall in love with something totally new and exciting. Carine and Chris’ alternative beach wedding is as glamorous as it is eclectic. The Irish wedding took place on Portnoo Beach with an impeccable geometric motif that was implemented by the couple themselves. The design-oriented pair envisioned a wedding celebrating shapes and color as much as their love. The enormously talented Moat Hill Photography did a striking job capturing the softness of the beach celebration and the modern angles of the DIY décor. From Carine’s custom light pink gown to the fresh-from-Barcelona flower petals, every detail of Carine and Chris’ wedding is a source of inspiration.

The Couple: Carine and Chris

The Wedding: Portnoo Beach, County Donegal

The Inspiration: “We love the aesthetic and form of triangles and geometric design and, from that, 600 hand-crafted tetrahedrons were born! Chris made all of the wooden boards for the shapes to be put in, including the base for the cake. We used the off-cuts from the geometric templates to cut the multi-coloured paper into teeny tiny triangles to make confetti bags which were closed with stickers which we designed. For the hanging displays above the tables, we used the geometric shapes and Chris made Scandinavian himmelis from metal tubing and we sprayed the table letters copper and placed them into each himmeli.

Chris’ Mum, Jenny, spent the months leading up to the wedding growing and tending to all the beautiful flowers and succulents which populated the beach, the house and the tent. They were amazing! We lined succulents in a glass and wooden sideboard which we bought from a local menswear shop in Enniskillen, and also used them to decorate the tables. The flowers had lots of greens and whites with pops of yellow and pink from the poppies, alliums and craspedia. Chris’ aunt, Robina, made all of the bouquets and the button holes using the flowers and plants which Jenny had grown including craspedia, thistles and eucalyptus which she tied together using copper piping.

Fashion-wise, we both knew we didn’t want something traditional. After trying on a couple of wedding dresses, I quickly knew that they weren’t for me. Taking inspiration from various different elements of design and my engagement ring, Danielle produced a dress which I loved and felt so comfortable in. The colour of Chris’ suit complemented the pink of my dress and all of the other colours that made up the decor and the flowers.

The Moments:My brother-in-law, Pedro, had flown hundreds of rose petals over from Barcelona as a surprise for us to mirror my sister and his wedding ceremony in Sitges last year so we were showered in petals and surrounded by all our close family and friends as we walked off the beach! Surreal.

One of Chris’ favourite moments was getting the wedding party and family back down to the beach to take some photos with the most incredible sunset behind us.

The Couple Recommends: “Arlene from Carnaween: Just a dream to work with, Arlene was so enthusiast about everything and couldn’t do enough to help us. We are still in touch and planning our next trip over for her delicious seafood! Paul from Moat Hill: What can we say! Paul was brilliant and made us feel instantly at ease, he was such good craic and his picture capture our day perfectly. Nick + the boys from Maverick Marquees: Nick came to meet us at Carnaween last Christmas in the snow! He was brilliant and so helpful from start to finish. Robbie + the boys from Midnight Sounds: The speeches ran over by quite a while so when the boys stepped up, they went full steam until late in the night. They had everyone on their feet and they stayed there into the wee hours!

Australian Garden Wedding by Tim Williams Photography

December 14, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Colorful-Vintage-Australian-Wedding-35

Beautiful weddings can have a real impact on us. Nina and Tom’s Australian garden wedding caught our eye, got our hearts racing, and stayed in our minds long after looking at it. From the massive bouquets to the sweet reception bunting, the colors in this wedding are major eye candy, and were the perfect choice for a joyous garden wedding. Luckily, Tim Williams Photography was there to catch every well-planned detail, glance and giggle, and the absolute happiness exuding from the newlyweds.

The Couple: Nina and Tom

The Wedding: Private Residence, Berry, New South Wales

The Inspiration: “We really wanted everyone involved to just have fun. We tried to create a relaxed atmosphere that encouraged people to mingle or to find little hidden spots to catch up with mates they had not seen for a while. It was such a beautiful location, surrounded by vineyards, in a steep valley and beautiful gardens so we wanted both the ceremony and reception to feel apart of the space. We had really bright flowers and bunting for a touch of fun, an outside bar and dance floor with bar tables scattered around the garden and a see-through marquee so you could still feel like you where in the garden and watch the fog round down the hills.

The dress and suits where inspired by my love of Audrey Hepburn. Classic and elegant. Very 1950s. I also wanted the bridesmaids dresses to have similar elements but showcase their individual personalities.

The Moments:

Tom: “We paid for our mate to do his celebrant course and kept it a secret so it was a big surprise on the day. He new us both so well and it was such an interment yet hilarious ceremony. It really made day.

Nina: “During the bridesmaid speech Tom and a group of mates got up and did a repeat of the serenade they did at uni “Your to good to be true”. Tom’s speach also had everyone either crying or in stitches (or both).

The Couple Recommends: “We had such an amazing group of people to work with that all really made the day. First, Tim Williams Photography: Tim is such a nice guy and made everyone relaxed which meant he could get some great photos of difficult people. He got every shot I was after and made everything so easy. Second, Tim Arnold, our celebrant: everyone is still talking about how amazing the ceremony was. Tim was both moving and hilarious. It made the ceremony very personal and something really special.

Beautiful Seaside Halifax Wedding

December 13, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Two-Day-Vietnamese-Wedding-19

When a couple comes from different cultures, the wedding has twice the potential for beautiful details and lovely moments. Thanh is a Vietnamese bride, and Jon a groom from Iceland. The Halifax wedding took place over the course of two days, including a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony in the first and beautifully classic Western bridal style in the second. The bride and groom’s first look on the second day resulted in some of our all-time favorite images, captured by Nicole and Teddy Wedding Photography, as Thanh walked out across the long pier to meet her husband in front of the stunning seaside venue.

The Couple: Thanh and Jon

The Wedding: Oceanstone Seaside Resort, Halifax, Nova Scotia

The Inspiration: “We knew right away that we wanted to be married at Oceanstone because the venue offered us the best that Nova Scotia had to offer; the breeze of the ocean, the warmth of the sand, and the privacy of woods surrounding the property. I wanted vintage and elegance with a touch east coast ease. I knew I wanted the men to be light grey to compliment the bluish grey tones of the ocean. My dress was a gorgeous gem from Maggie Sottero it was heavily beaded and had strands of gold threads throughout. It had all the elements I had wanted in a dress; an illusion beaded back, an elegant train, and an element of unique. My shoes were from Badgley Mischka and complimented the dress perfectly, just the right amount of sparkle without taking away from my gown at all. I wanted the girls to be in blush toned chiffon dresses and neutral/gold heels. The color of the bridesmaids dresses tied in the colors of the blush/peach hues of my bouquet and looked stunning against the ocean hues at the ceremony. They were designed by me and handmade by my talented mother.

The Moments: “I was lucky enough to celebrate our union with two ceremonies; a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony and more North American style wedding. The first evening was so special to me because it was a chance for us to share some Vietnamese tradition with Jon’s family and our close friends. The moment I remember most that night was when I came out around the crowd and visually connected with Jon for the first time. I could see the happiness in his eyes and my heart fluttered, even almost 12 years later. On our wedding day one of my favorite moments had to be our first look on a pier in Peggy’s Cove. With a week of hustle and bustle and having friends and family constantly around helping us with the ceremonies, our first look was the first time that we had to ourselves and we both treasured every second of it. To have that intimate meeting captured on camera was so special for us, now we will have the photos to cherish always.

The Couple Recommends: “Nicole and Teddy are truly amazing people who love what they do and it certainly shows in their work. They were there to capture all the moments we wanted but more importantly the moments that were unexpected and sincere. We couldn’t have asked for a better pair of souls to share in our celebrations and we are blessed to have made a long lasting connection.
