Classic Illinois Wedding at Allerton Park Retreat

January 23, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Classic-Illinois-Wedding-Rachael-Schirano-11

A classic wedding doesn’t have to feel stuffy or stiff, and Kate and Brodie’s Illinois wedding perfectly blends soft elements in with a classic feel for a beautiful celebration of their love. The gold and deep navy color palette is so beautiful against all the greenery at Allerton Park Retreat, and we love that the blue calls back to Kate’s extremely gorgeous sapphire ring. Rachael Schirano Photography captured the effortless joy and stunning styling throughout their wedding day.

The Couple:

Kate and Brodie

The Wedding:

Allerton Park Retreat and Conference Center, Monticello, Illinois

The Inspiration:

I wanted a mix between a classic, clean cut wedding mixed with the ethereal, soft elements of a garden. This fit our venue perfectly with the historic mansion and beautiful formal gardens. I wanted the groomsmen and bridesmaids to be simple and streamlined to allow them to stand out in the beautiful setting.

The Moments:

Our favorite moment was the first dance. We had taken all of two dance classes to try and learn swing for the swing band we used for the wedding. Brodie had been so focused during the classes, and on the big day he relaxed and was making me laugh during the whole thing.

The Couple Recommends:

Rachael Schirano was the best. So easy, professional, and artistic to work with. The Rhythm Rockets also put on such a great time. Everyone was on the dance floor even though it was “old school” music!

The Wedding Team:

Five Day Thailand Wedding

January 23, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Multicultural-Thailand-Wedding-Liam-Collard-4

We hope you’re sitting down, because this five day Thailand wedding is about to blow you away. Valerie and Shyam didn’t just plan a wedding, they planned a five day wedding extravaganza with the help of some of the world’s most talented wedding professionals. The Wedding Bliss by Nanya took the couple’s wildest wedding dreams and created impeccable and special events over the course of five days of celebrating. Liam Collard magnificently captured the many significant moments, outfit changes, and extravagant styling.

The Couple:

Valerie and Shyam

The Wedding:

InterContinental Baan Taling Ngam, Kho Samui, Thailand

The Inspiration:

What made our wedding special was a variety of factors all coming together. It was a marriage of three religions, two cultures, and one big party! Buddhist, Hindu, and Christian ceremonies all into one big wedding! From the start we knew that we had to have a destination wedding, as we knew that we would have to combine numerous ceremonies into our wedding festivities. As a result, we wanted to put up our guests in a stunning resort while experiencing a 5 day extravaganza of mixed cultures! Our wedding was a 5 day full throttle event, and each day we aimed to stun our guests with a new theme! We carefully chose the Conde Nast winning resort, called the InterContinental for its prestige and breathtaking backdrops that would serve as our wedding venue.

It was a remarkable 5 day wedding, and definitely a spectacle for the island! 160 guests, 5 days, 9 functions, and 11 bridal dresses later…..it was the best time of our life!

The Moments:

Our favorite part of the wedding was the moment when we exchanged our own personal vows during the western ceremony on the final day. We loved each cultural ceremony of our wedding, but the vows ceremony was the only time we had a chance to speak to each other and share our love to each other. We both wrote our own vows, and we both cried on stage. It was a meaningful moment for both of us, and the moment where we finally felt married! Our vows were personal, reflecting the momentous meaning of our wedding. After years of obstacles, hardships, long distance, our wedding day marked the beginning of our life together, “no more good byes, and only good mornings!”

The Couple Recommends:

Our wedding planners were fabulous, and catered to our needs from beginning to end. They worked within our budget, knowing that a 5 day wedding required so many elements and put together the wedding of our dreams. They were extremely wonderful to work with and executed a phenomenal multiple day wedding!

My makeup & hair artist deserves recognition. He is well known in the Orange County area, but I flew him all the way to Thailand for 5 days to be my on call artist. He worked with me to research Indian makeup and hair styles to cater to the Indian events. He spent the 5 days with me tirelessly working on the bridesmaids and myself, catering to every “look” I needed, losing sleep and missing meals to make us all look beautiful!

Quirky and Fun NYC Elopement

January 22, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Quirky-NYC-Elopement-Betty-Liu-13

Choosing your wedding photographer on Reddit may be an alternative avenue, but Jem and Alex got lucky when Boston photographer Alex Xu, of Xu Liu Photography, responded to their call. The quirky couple planned a casual NYC elopement in Central Park, complete with sparkly sneakers and victory rolls. We love their impulsive attitude towards wedding planning, and their easy-going spirit definitely paid off when it started to drizzle during the portrait session. The resulting images are über romantic and totally fun.

The Couple:

Jem and Alex

The Wedding:

Central Park, New York, New York

The Inspiration:

Jem and Alex are a bit quirky which is reflected in their big day. The vintage-themed wedding was done on a budget. The dress was from a friend’s boutique, the suit mismatched pieces from vintage stores. Flowers were picked up from a Williamsburg grocery store and put together in the morning by Jem

The veil was hand stitched one late night using a vintage pearl necklace, pheasant feathers and French netting. Jem frantically went from tomboy to make up and hair expert in the months leading up to the big day, doing hers and her good friend Sarah’s. Sarah rocked a vintage dress featuring her favourite skulls, with a victory roll hairstyle, going for a 50s vibe.

The Moments:

Jem wrote the ceremony, which left her struggling a bit to come up with things to say in the vows as she’d already covered most of it! Thankfully, Alex is a funny guy, so when he promised to love and cherish her, as well as sing silly songs about her (their favourite past time) forever, he made everyone laugh.

The Couple Recommends:

Alex Xu was fantastic. He answered my plea for a photographer on Reddit and came all the way from Boston to do the photos. Everyone has said how wonderful they are. I genuinely don’t think they could have come out any better. It looks like the happy ending to an awesome indie film.

Officiant – Beth K Lamont
Wedding Dress – Corset and Dresses
Rings – Shiruba Tree
