Colorful Toronto Wedding at Mildred’s Temple Kitchen

Floral design can be such a defining aspect of wedding decor. The level of color and volume of flowers in a wedding help to set the mood, while choosing polished or wild arrangements show more personality of the couple and how they want to be represented on their wedding day. Cheryl and Fabio’s colorful Toronto wedding was charming and modern, with an array of bright petals and a modern venue choice in Mildred’s Temple Kitchen. We can’t take our eyes off the sweet style of the bride and groom, in shades of pink, blue, and yellow for their big day. Photographer Celine Kim masterfully captured the colors and emotions that defined Cheryl and Fabio’s perfectly personal wedding day.

The Couple:

Cheryl and Fabio

The Wedding:

Mildred’s Temple Kitchen, Toronto, Ontario

The Inspiration:

We didn’t have a theme or any grand vision of what we wanted the wedding to look like. We just had no idea and had never really thought about it. We also procrastinated a great deal in our wedding planning and were very relieved that everything looked somewhat cohesive at the end. The venue itself was selected for its bright modern and neutral look, so really, anything would have looked wonderful in there. We just decided that we wanted everything to look colourful and happy!

I spent a lot of time looking for a very modern, simple “un-wedding” dress, but none looked quite right on me. Vintage dresses are my tried and true and I don’t know why i even bothered to look at other types of dresses in the first place. I feel that once you put on a vintage gown, nothing else even compares. Vintage dresses are so special without even trying and are often so figure-flattering. Mine was a fairly simple dress from the 1940s but it had the prettiest soutache lace and a super dreamy diaphanous layer of silk organza. It was a dream dress, for sure.

The Moments:

Fabio and I spent a quiet day getting ready together. My best friend Carolyn came over to hang out with me and my brother came by to bring me my bouquet, and the four of us just hung out and chatted and had a super peaceful morning. Then went out with our photographers and to have our photos taken at a ravine near our house, and that was peaceful and lovely too. After that we drove to our venue and we wait at the entrance with our parents, a little bit nervous, just before we walk down the aisle. But at that moment when the music started and Fabio and his parents took their first steps down the aisle, the whole place erupted in applause! Like, they were applauding us while we were walking down the aisle! It was sort of crazy and joyous, and I just kind of woke up and realized, oh my god, this is really happening! And I loved seeing all of our nearest and dearest crammed into that room! I totally spent most of the time saying excited hellos to everyone and forgetting to look at Fabio until the very end!

The Couple Recommends:

Our photographer Celine was amazing to work with. She’s this totally lovely and unobtrusive person who makes you feel totally at ease. And she’s amazingly talented, to boot!

I loved our flowers by Flower 597. I thrifted all of the brass and glass vessels, brought them to the florist and sort of vaguely asked for flowers that looked hand-picked, wild and colourful. They were better than I could have imagined. Every arrangement was different and so many lovely types of flowers were used.

The lady who altered and restored my 1940s dress was fantastic. She has a vast knowledge of antique and vintage clothing. My dress originally had a ginormous hoop skirt and big poufy shoulders (I was told that the original owner had the dress made for a debutante ball after she saw Gone with the Wind), with lots of stains and tears and she did such a lovely job restoring the dress. She really made it a special dress.

Timeless British Wedding at The Larmer Tree

January 29, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Lamar-Tree-Wedding-Jason-Mark-Harris-30

British weddings are known for their timeless elegance. There is a polished effortlessness paired with a romantic sense of tradition that makes weddings in England so lovely to admire. Michelle and James were married at The Larmer Tree, an opulent garden with antique structures and deep, dark greenery. The bouquets might be the most dreamy we’ve ever seen, with soft, muted pinks and feather-like foliage. Photographer Jason Mark Harris captured these extraordinary details and the exquisite venue so beautifully for Michelle and James to look back on forever.

The Couple:

Michelle and James

The Wedding:

The Larmer Tree, Salisbury, England

The Inspiration:

Timeless vintage.

The Moments:

Walking down the isle was probably my favourite part of the day as there was so much emotion yet harder than I ever thought it would be. My mother was supposed to be by my side but on the way to the wedding she was seriously injured and ended up being rushed into hospital and missing the entire day/night.

The Couple Recommends:

Kirk Ensor exceeded our expectations – as we were over an hour late getting married (due to the accident), he continued to wow the guests until my arrival – couldn’t have thanked him enough.

Jason Mark Harris and the team were also superb – they did so much more than just capture the day on camera, helping out whilst we were getting ready etc.

Bluegrass-Inspired Wedding in Austin at Pecan Grove

January 28, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Jewish-Wedding-in-Austin-Phillip-Thomas-11

Austin weddings have a certain rustic essence unlike any other. Jenny and Eric’s wedding at Pecan Grove was a boot-scootin’, BBQ eatin’, Mason jar sippin’ good time. We love the way they included personal touches, like opting to collect kippot from loved ones instead of monogramming a new set for guests to wear and hiring live music to play their favorite songs throughout the day. Philip Thomas Photography brilliantly captured the evening wedding, complete with twinkle lights and traditional Jewish wedding customs.

The Couple:

Jenny and Eric

The Wedding:

Pecan Grove, Austin, Texas

The Inspiration:

Laid-back, rustic, true to our personalities and loaded with fun. We were really inspired by the venue, where Eric and I have attended our favorite bluegrass music festival for the past 3 years. We actually didn’t even look at other venues. Once we knew we could definitely get married at Pecan Grove, we let the venue dictate the look and feel of the wedding, with the outdoor elements and beautiful space shining. We added string lights, fall florals, mason jars and tea lights, and incorporated some of our favorite things like a bluegrass band at the cocktail hour and ceremony, and true comfort food during the cocktail hour and reception, to encouraging all of the guests to wear cowboy boots with their wedding attire. Our entire wedding party (and Eric and I) wore boots, as well.

We also collected kippot from our friends’ and family members’ special occasions for people to wear, instead of our own monogrammed ones, as a way to tie our families together.

The Moments:

We were very lucky in that my best friend’s father was our officiant. Not only did I grow up in his home, but my husband’s parents have been friends with him for years, as well, so having him officiate was an honor. His voice is absolutely beautiful and we had asked him to sing the Jewish prayer, “Shechecheyanu,” at our ceremony, which is sung to commemorate special occasions. When it came time for him to sing this to us under the chuppah, my best friend/Maid of Honor (his daughter), whose voice is also incredible (and who I had already asked to sing our first dance, which she did later that night), joined him, surprising me and singing the prayer with him for the first time publicly. My husband and I were blown away that they kept the secret and that they wanted to do that for us. All of our guests were bawling, as it was truly so special.

The Couple Recommends:

Our vendors were truly amazing. Philip, our photographer, was so calming and wonderful throughout the entire day and was willing to stick around with us for as long as we wanted to make sure we got the images we wanted most. He truly captured so many magical moments. Carson at our venue, Pecan Grove, was also amazing to work with and made life SO easy. My wedding planner, Lauren with Something to Celebrate, was such a breath of fresh air. I didn’t have to worry about a single thing because she was so organized and listened so closely to what we wanted.

Our bakery, Three Brothers Bakery, was amazing to work with AND drove our cakes down to our venue all the way from Houston. Our bands were also amazing. Our cocktail hour and ceremony band learned two of our favorite songs to play as Eric and I walked down the aisle. They played “Waste” by Phish for Eric and “Our House” by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young for me and it was amazing to hear those in the bluegrass variety. Our reception band also took the time to learn our first dance song AND rehearse it with my Maid of Honor, who sang with them, before the wedding.
