Navy and Gold Barn Wedding in Denver

Meagan and Steven’s wedding in Denver turned out to be everything that they ever dreamed of. Having her own design studio, Whimsy Design Studio, Meagan created some gorgeous wedding invitations for their navy and gold themed evening, and she even made all the stationary signage and extra decorations for the reception at the Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms. They wanted the entire day to remain true to who they are as a couple, so they kept the celebration laid-back full of DIY details. The couple cut empty wine bottles in half to use as candle holders and vases. They also sliced logs, built marquee letters, made lawn games, and crafted a paper flower wall for a photo booth. Autumn Cutaia Photography captured every sweet moment from Meagan and Steven’s big day, even snapping an adorable picture of the couple arriving to their reception on Steven’s moped scooter.

As a stationery designer I am constantly surrounded and inspired by the beauty of the wedding world. This made daydreaming about décor for our big day easy. I really got to utilize my designer skills for the reception décor as well – I hand lettered tons of signage and table numbers with our signature botanical elements that I carried throughout our stationery suite.

For our wedding, we had a traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony followed by a vintage, laid-back barn reception with loads of personal DIY details. It sounds pretty disjointed, but our wedding came together as the most beautiful and perfect day that truly represented our love and lives together.

Lauren Smith with Hourglass Productions was so wonderful to work with!!! If anyone is wondering if Day-of Coordination is worth it I can tell you it’s worth every penny for the peace of mind they offer – keeping the whole day on track, putting out any fires that may arise, and making sure everything is being executed to your vision.

My husband and I got creative and started imaging all the ways we could DIY to conserve our budget. For a year, we collected dozens of wine bottles for our centerpieces; cutting half for candleholders and using the rest for floral arrangements. We sliced logs, built marquee letters, made lawn games, crafted a seven foot paper flower wall for our photo booth and a paper flower curtain for our dessert table.

We gave traditional Greek wedding favors – Koufeta (sugar coated almonds). The favors are rich with symbolism – an odd number that is indivisible, just as the couple can never be divided. The hardness of the almond represents the endurance of marriage. The sugar symbolizes the sweetness of future life.

One of my favorite things about our wedding was the subtle scooter theme throughout. My husband, Steven, rides his moped to work everyday and it is undoubtedly his favorite “toy.” With so much of our wedding being my taste, I wanted to give Steven some ways to really show off his personality. We not only entered our reception on the scooter, but we also had a custom bow tie made with a tiny scooter pattern just for the big day!

Mint and Orange Vintage Florida Wedding at Artisan Alley Garage

April 8, 2016 | editorial team

Kaylin and Elijah decided to tie the knot in the same exact location that Eli had asked Kaylin to be his girlfriend at Stetson University roughly two and a half years earlier. Just down the road from that spot is the Artisan Alley Garage, where they had their “Old Florida” themed wedding reception. Being a wedding planner herself, Kaylin, enlisted the help of her family and friends to transform the garage into her dream venue. They decorated the place from head to toe with palm trees, stamped oranges, vintage post cards, and various plants and flowers that are indigenous to Florida. Concept Photography captured Kaylin and Elijah’s sweetest moments throughout the day, starting with their adorable “first touch.”

As a wedding planner myself, I was so excited to finally get to plan my own! The process was extremely fun but still had its stressful moments. There are so many questions that fall to preference that I never had to answer when helping other couples. So even though this is my profession, there was still a lot I had to learn and figure out.

It’s difficult to pinpoint any one part, but I think my favorite was seeing my husband’s face as I walked down the aisle. We had done a first touch so that we could at least talk and pray beforehand but seeing his reaction was priceless. Even though 130 people were staring at me, I could not take my eyes off of his and it is a memory that I will cherish forever.

We decided to get married at the same location where Eli had asked me to be his girlfriend two and a half years before. Our reception venue just happened to be an awesome place down the road that was a perfect blank slate for me to get my design on!

I wanted to avoid the word vintage so I titled our vibe “Old Florida”. From there we went with palm trees, stamped oranges, old post cards from around the state and flowers and plants that are indigenous to Florida. Our reception was in a garage so I went with the rough-around-the-edges look with our wooden tables, metal chairs and mix-matched bottles. From there I threw in the pretty touches with our sparkle runners and golden votives.

I wanted to end our wedding with a bang and surprise my husband with something that he would never forget. He has a love for classic cars and we just so happened to find a guy in town who has a personal collection of all kinds of vehicles. I chose a 1916 Buick Touring Car that was in mint condition and the look on his face when that car pulled up was almost as good as when he saw me coming down the aisle.

Why You Should Consider Anchorage, AK for Your Destination Elopement

April 8, 2016 | editorial team

Why-You-Should-Consider-Anchorage-AK-Destination-Elopement-8

With its crystal blue waters, vast mountain ranges, and crisp cool weather, Alaska is a perfect location for a destination elopement. Add on the changing colors of fall, and you’ve got yourself one heck of a view. Photographers Grace Adams and Lauren Parker teamed up to create an inspiration shoot for couples looking for a simple autumn elopement in the mountains. Anchorage already looked beautiful with the subdued colors of late autumn, but the wildflower bouquet and pie picnic, plus a stunning Amy Kuschel gown and the couple’s warm and tender interactions with one another, came together to create something even more beautiful than the vast landscape.
