If you think of outdated 1940s fashion when you hear “pin-up,” prepare to think again! This modern pin-up boudoir shoot from is full of updated details like sequined lingerie and sleek backdrops, while still paying homage to classic pin-up with quintessential poses and super bold va-va-voom makeup. We love how Sarah Haimes of Shuttergram Portraits captured this boudoir model with such gorgeousness and natural light.
Between its whimsical florals, 90s hip hop, and raw oyster bar, we can’t get enough of this unique Metropolitan Building wedding! Christine and Luke knew they wanted their wedding to feel lively, dreamy, and celebratory, so they incorporated DIY elements and personal touches in every inch of their decor. Christine’s lace Watters gown had an amazing illusion neckline and off-the-shoulder style, while Luke wore a slate blue Hugo Boss suit to complement their wedding’s moody and subdued color scheme. Loreto Caceres Photography captured the couple’s special day, including an especially emotional first look, in this charming NYC venue.
We loved working with our photographer, Loreto Caceres. Looking back at our photos everyone exclaims how she really captured the night! She also put us at ease in front of the camera – something two photo shy individuals were slightly anxious about.
Lace feels so romantic to me so I knew that was what I wanted from the start. I loved the off the shoulder look of my dress and that it was fitted compared to the usual flowy dresses I wear. I kept my accessories to a minimum with small flowers braided into to my hair and some delicate moonstone earrings. Beauty wise, I didn’t want to look made up or over-styled and my talented hair and make up stylists executed a very soft and natural look that felt perfectly undone yet done.
While looking at venues we’d ask ourselves if we’d want to attend a wedding there. The MetropolitanBuilding was an immediate yes. It has the feel of a beautiful weathered old estate. The charm in all the imperfect details of the space really spoke to us and helped set the mood.
The groomsmen wore a suit of their choosing and our bridesmaids chose different garden floral dresses. The dresses ended up looking so pretty together. We weren’t into everyone matching and really just wanted our friends to be comfortable and enjoy themselves without worrying about the colors of their shoes or having to rent something.
We didn’t have a theme – we knew we just wanted the night to feel romantic and moody. We kept a dusty, muted color palette and used elements we loved like lots of candles, vintage inspired touches and whimsical flowers. Everything just came together naturally. Our florist, Xylem & Phloem, really blew us away with their work – creating eclectic arrangements that felt dreamy, ethereal and slightly wild.
Definitely the most important thing to us was having our wedding feel celebratory and lively. Having it in NYC on a Friday night naturally made it feel like a party while keeping it easy for most to attend. With so many of our guests out dancing the whole night and having a great time, the energy and love just felt contagious and I don’t think Luke nor I stopped smiling once.
We wrote our own vows and had a family friend officiate which made the ceremony feel more like us sharing a moment and less like a traditional service. Having our dog walk down our aisle first also helped set the tone. We wanted it to feel intimate but lighthearted and while there were some tearful moments, there were so much joy and laughter.
We DIY’d with a lot of help from our family and friends. We collected vintage brass candlesticks for our tables, handrolled beesewax candles as favors, and made everything from the confetti filled programs and hand painted table numbers and signage to the floral crowns for the flower girls. A friend baked a small wedding cake for us since we served pie for our dessert but we still wanted the traditional cake cutting moment and I made our cake topper.
Our cocktail hour was a labor of love and a roll of the dice – we wanted a oyster raw bar and a soundtrack of late 90’s hip hop to start the party and thankfully it lived up to our dreams and ended up being a hit with everyone.
Lush textures, desert florals, and endless romance is the name of the game at this unforgettable Australia bohemian wedding! When planning their special day, Karla and Matt prioritized relaxation over typical wedding formalities, so they chose Maleny Retreat for its gorgeous, sprawling grounds and easygoing vibes. A traditional Nordic reception tent and fun texture details like Persian rugs and lace completed the couple’s desert wedding vision, and DIY projects like cushioned milk crate canapé seating kept things cool and personal. We love how photographer Ash & Stone captured Karla and Matt’s super chic wedding with such an amazing attention to detail and light.
I wanted bold makeup. I went so muted and plain with flowers and styling colours, I think something needed to stand out. I also always wanted just wavy effortless hair, so I think having my makeup as a bit more of a focal point suited everything else I chose. I had zero plans for my hair on the day and just planned on freestyling the morning of, my amazing hair stylist managed to whip up a beautiful half head flower crown out of flowers from the table styling. It really completed my look, she did a stunning job.
Maleny Retreat has always been special to us, it’s beautiful and just has a great happy, fresh feeling up there. I think we always knew it was the perfect spot. After visiting MalenyRetreat and having the blank canvas to do it exactly how we wanted was perfect.
I visited quite a few venues I’d had my eye on for years prior to getting engaged and they were very beautiful, formal, and elegant. After visiting them though I just felt they weren’t me and I started to be drawn more to the relaxed outdoor vibe. I guess I do care much more about how an event feels rather than looks.
I loved pastel peach, mint, beige – I guess you would call them desert hues. I never had a colour theme, I just stayed neutral which left me pretty open to mix and match colours as I pleased.
Having quite a lot of immediate family at the venue on the morning of the wedding (segregated from the bridal party of course) made prepping for a DIY outdoor wedding so much less stressful, all those things that go wrong the morning of were taken care of by everyone there and I didn’t have to lift a finger. Everyone chipped in and helped out in one way or another, it made them feel special doing their own little job and it made the day run flawlessly for us with minimal stress.
Matt and I are from the country originally and we would love to move to the Hinterland Farm one day, so we placed two tree seeds in a glass vessel along with our vows, and on one of our anniversaries we will plant the trees side by side and be able to watch them grow with us.
The most memorable moment for both of us it was walking back down the aisle as a married couple, the joy and love on our guests’ faces as well as our own made us feel truly blessed to be surrounded by so many loved ones.
I initially wanted a really relaxed boho style dress but after trying on the “Mabel” skirt from KWH I fell in love, it was so flattering from every angle so I made it work and tried to dress it down with the lace “Tillie” crop from KWH also. It was an April wedding and in a cool location so I always wanted long sleeve just due to the climate there.
Our photographer and I have exactly the same style so her ideas were always on point with what I wanted but with the added expertise that comes from being a seasoned wedding attendee. She does a huge amount of research so on the day she already knew the angles we preferred and the range of photographs she wanted.
