This Festive English Marquee Wedding is the Definition of Adorable

August 3, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

this-festive-english-marquee-wedding-is-the-definition-of-adorable-24

This English marquee wedding’s whimsical décor is positively adorable! Beth and James decked their marquee with DIY projects like floral arrangements, origami swans made from pages of old books, and even a homemade wedding cake. Beth wore a gorgeous Temperley gown with a beaded top and flowers in her hair for a perfectly chic yet ethereal bridal look! We love how UK photography team The Twins captured this lovely couple’s festive event with so much attention to emotion and light.

The Couple:

Beth and James

The Wedding:

Budle Hall, Northumberland, England

We wanted to get married somewhere which was special to us; we met in Edinburgh and live in London but when we started looking for where we might like to get married, everywhere felt too much like a ‘venue’ in either of those cities, rather than somewhere which felt like ‘ours.’ We had spent a wonderful holiday in Northumberland the year before we got engaged, and it’s a part of the world which has lots of significance for Beth’s family so, when we found out we could have Budle Hall for the weekend, we were set.

The ceremony was the most memorable part of our day. We shared very strong opinions about what we wanted to say and do during the ceremony: sometimes the marriage can get lost under all the other ‘stuff’ of a wedding, but we wanted to feel the importance of what we were promising and we wanted it to reflect what we believe about the world and what we care about.

this-festive-english-marquee-wedding-is-the-definition-of-adorable-15

this-festive-english-marquee-wedding-is-the-definition-of-adorable-16

We chose a humanist celebrant (the wonderful Kate Owens-Palmer) who listened carefully to what we wanted and helped us formulate our ideas into a coherent whole. We spent hours choosing the right combination of readings and songs, with three extraordinary people to read and James’ great friends Ben and Zac to arrange the music, perform and rehearse a mini-choir. The whole thing was magical.

this-festive-english-marquee-wedding-is-the-definition-of-adorable-18

Don’t get drawn in to spending money on things other people tell you are important for a wedding, or worrying about what a wedding ought to be like. Spend time together reflecting on what you care about, but also what you’ve loved about other weddings that you’ve been to together. When people ask you what you’re doing about a particular feature which you’ve never noticed or cared about at anyone else’s wedding, then you shouldn’t be bothered about it at your own wedding.

this-festive-english-marquee-wedding-is-the-definition-of-adorable-4

Let other people help you make it wonderful – the sense of shared ownership makes for a super special day in the end. We ordered buckets of wild flowers for our marquee and our mums spent the day before the wedding arranging them beautifully; our friend Gemma made our cake and did Beth’s hair and make up; our friends bonded over wrapping cutlery; lots of people learned how to make origami birds…

this-festive-english-marquee-wedding-is-the-definition-of-adorable-11

We made 230 origami birds; 100 out of old books which were strung up above the doors of the marquee and 130 on coloured paper which we used as name places/favours with each person’s name written onto it.

What To Put On Your Farm Table to Make Your Wedding Reception Beautifully Yours

August 2, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

what to put on your farm table

The decision between long, round, or square tables has never been easier; farm tables are the obvious answer! Not only does this arrangement help a large reception feel intimate, but the design options are endless. An infinite amount of décor ideas can be a little overwhelming, so we’ve rounded up some of our favorite receptions to help you figure out what to put on your farm table to make your wedding reception beautifully yours.

Jewel Tone Linens

The perfect pairing for a rustic-style reception is a rich jewel tone palette and a long farm table. Crushed velvet teal table runners, aubergine napkins, and emerald accessories elevate the look of any venue, while giving your guests that warm, fuzzy feeling!

Voluminous Centerpieces

While some choose to decorate with smaller pieces down the length of the table, others make a statement with a few voluminous centerpieces. Designing a grand display with your florist can take your take your table from farm to fabulous!

Greenery Down the Middle

These days, you rarely see a farm table without a lush surplus of greenery placed down the middle. Eucalyptus is a popular choice, but other leaves like ferns and even tropical fronds can change the tone of your whole table design.

Colorful Glassware

Everybody loves a pop of color, and decorating your farm table is no different! We’re big fans of colorful glassware here at Junebug. Whether you choose an eclectic arrangement of textures and colors or streamline your design with a single style and hue, colored glassware is a practical and beautiful décor element!

Statement Table Runners

We’re always looking for places to add a little texture and pattern into reception styling. A statement runner on your farm table can be the root of your thematic design. Macrame makes for a boho look, black and white stripes exhibit glamour, and an intricate print can add to an eclectic arrangement.

This Wedding at Fox Hollow is Full of Elegant Whimsy

August 2, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

this-wedding-at-the-fox-hollow-is-full-of-elegant-whimsy-14

Who would have guessed that a bug-themed wedding could be this elegant? From the groom’s cufflinks to their reception’s escort card display, Ari and Nick incorporated ladybugs into as many wedding details as possible! Fox Hollow, located in upstate New York, was the perfect venue to channel the relaxed sophistication that Ari and Nick wanted out of their wedding event space. We love how Ari’s lace-adorned Jenny Packham gown, cathedral-length veil, and braid crown up-do created a dramatic and super feminine bridal look! The Markows Photography captured every moment of this incredibly whimsical and sophisticated wedding.

The most important part was that our wedding truly felt like us, The Bugs! From the venue, to the ceremony, to the escort cards, flowers, bridesmaid dresses and especially the cake topper. We didn’t want your run-of-the-mill, cookie cutter wedding and that’s exactly what we got! And we couldn’t have done it without the support of our AHHHHHmazing family, friends and vendors!!

Our first look at Old Westbury Gardens was truly magical. As soon as we saw each other, we were immediately the calmest we had been all day and couldn’t stop smiling.

If I could wear my dress every day, I would! She (yes, she) fit in so perfectly with my theme – she was feminine, whimsical, fun and had a killer front AND back, something you don’t get very often in 1 dress! I knew I wanted my hair to compliment these things, so I decided on a braid crown and low bun with white spray roses and baby’s breath intertwined. Nancy Caroline made my hair and makeup vision a reality and I couldn’t thank her more! And finally, my veil. Oh how I LOVED my veil! I really feel like it’s delicate, oh-so-beautiful cascading flowers made the entire look.

We had a 22 month long engagement and for 20 long months, I had this vision in my head that wouldn’t quit. I feel like the bridesmaid dresses really set the tone for the rest of the wedding; whimsical, boho-chic yumminess! Four were in a strapless, abstract floral dress that I fell IN LOVE with at Bloomingdale’s (on sale!!). Three wore a one shoulder lilac dream that perfectly complimented the florals. To top it off, they wore delicate baby’s breath flower crowns and held small all-white bouquets.

this-wedding-at-the-fox-hollow-is-full-of-elegant-whimsy-30

Our advice: Get a dedicated wedding notebook and take it with you e v e r y w h e r e! You never know when an idea, question or concern will pop into your head and it will automatically make you feel better (and not obsess…too much) after you write it down! It’s SO easy to get wrapped up in all the details/chaos, but at the end of the day, you need to remember that everything on that day WILL be okay because you have each other…and you’re going to be husband and wife!! Nothing is better than that.

this-wedding-at-the-fox-hollow-is-full-of-elegant-whimsy-47

My step-mom designed the beautiful, heart-felt programs and we worked very closely with our Cantor, Nancy Bach, to have our ceremony resemble exactly who we are. Nick and I are The Bugs and lady bugs definitely made their way into our ceremony (and reception), in only the best way possible.

this-wedding-at-the-fox-hollow-is-full-of-elegant-whimsy-34

Our venue fit right in our vision – we knew we didn’t want a traditional ballroom and as soon as we walked into the Winter Garden Pavilion at Fox Hollow, we knew it was the one. With brick walls, skylight ceilings, a mahogany bar and fireplace, it felt like you were in someone’s home – it was perfect.

this-wedding-at-the-fox-hollow-is-full-of-elegant-whimsy-40

The DIY-thing I wanted to do for the longest time was our escort cards – it was the very first pin I pinned! I ordered a huge wooden frame off Etsy, then trolled Facebook for my favorite photos of our guests and got them printed on Polaroid stock paper with the table numbers. We hung each photo with a clothespin and stuck cute little lady bug stickers at the top of the frame.

Throughout the night, we also reminded each other to stop and look around, to really take it all in. How lucky are we that ALL of our family and friends are dancing their butts off (together!!) under the same roof celebrating our love. I so wish I could bottle that intoxicating joy up and keep it forever.
