Sweet Vintage-Inspired Irish Wedding at Springfort Hall

July 24, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

sweet-vintage-inspired-irish-wedding-at-springfort-hall-13

This incredibly sweet Springfort Hall wedding had the perfect balance of vintage style and heartfelt moments! Treasa wore a powder blue vintage tea-length dress and pulled her hair into a voluminous up-do to complete her 1950s inspired bridal look. The couple’s décor included tons of personal DIY projects, including vinyl record invitations and a wine box time capsule. We love how photography team The Lou’s captured every single moment of this wedding so perfectly!

The Couple:

Treasa and Ronan

The Wedding:

St. Michael’s ChurchSpringfort Hall, Mallow, Ireland

Treasa made our invitations from scratch using old 7 inch vinyl records. We did our best to choose appropriate singles for each guest and it was so exciting when we got messages from friends who were shocked that they actually played! They took so much time but we were really proud of them and the reactions of our guests made them worth all the effort.

Ronan was quite nervous about “being on show” for the day. It got to a point where we were both worried it would end up ruining the day for him and I suggested we meet up before the ceremony on our own to try and calm the nerves and allow us our own bit of time together.

sweet-vintage-inspired-irish-wedding-at-springfort-hall-8

The First Look idea is a relatively new concept in Ireland and as such, it was a massive break with tradition. In fact we had numerous people telling us not to do it with many suggesting we would regret doing it… How INCREDIBLY wrong they all were.

sweet-vintage-inspired-irish-wedding-at-springfort-hall-9

If we were to repeat the day all over again, our first look and subsequent time together alone was by far entirely the best part of our wedding day. I will always remember walking up to Ronan hidden behind a mass of balloons trying to force the tears of excitement back so as not to ruin my makeup!

sweet-vintage-inspired-irish-wedding-at-springfort-hall-10

Of course that went out the window when Ronan released the balloons and I saw him shaking nervously but with an enormous grin on his face. I was so extremely glad that we went against the superstitions and traditions as nothing could have matched up to the feelings we experienced together as a couple.

sweet-vintage-inspired-irish-wedding-at-springfort-hall-11

sweet-vintage-inspired-irish-wedding-at-springfort-hall-12

We made our own wine-box capsule using buttons and the date of our wedding. Inside we had a record explaining what each bottle was for and when it was to be opened. We both wrote letters to each other to be opened when we had our first fight and then we opened the bottle of wine. The bottle of bubbles was for our first anniversary so we’re looking forward to popping that open soon!

sweet-vintage-inspired-irish-wedding-at-springfort-hall-14

Treasa made all the bouquets for the bridal party using flowers from her parents’ garden and friends. Treasa’s grandfather passed away in March at the age of 99 and it was lovely to have a cutting from on of his apple trees and roses hidden in the bride’s bouquet. She attached a photograph of “Grandad Fla” to the apple which meant he got to spend the whole day by her side.

We love music. We love vintage. We often spend afternoons just browsing through vintage shops and flea markets. We have a great vinyl record collection at home and it’s a favourite thing of ours to sit over a nice meal with a glass of wine listening to Eartha Kitt, The Beatles or Pink Floyd. The theme for our wedding stemmed from this and I think we achieved what we were hoping for. It was fun, relaxed and very much go with the flow on the day which was just what we had hoped for.

Having a religious ceremony was important to Treasa but we wanted to make it a relaxed and fun part of the day rather than a strict structured element. We were so lucky to have a family friend agree to marry us on the day and this made it very personal and lighthearted.

sweet-vintage-inspired-irish-wedding-at-springfort-hall-27

sweet-vintage-inspired-irish-wedding-at-springfort-hall-28

While we had the religious aspect, the entire service was focused around family and friendship which made it very special. Throughout our planning and particularly on the days where things went wrong, we decided that so long as we were married to each other by the end of the day, anything else would be a bonus.

Our photographers The Lou’s were quite simply incredible. Their fun and enthusiasm made our day. In fact our guests all thought they were friends attending the wedding. They were discreet but really made us feel at ease and in all honesty, we were gutted when they told us they were leaving at the end of the night. They made us feel as though they were old friends and I don’t think any other supplier affects your day so much as your photographer.

The rain had just started and we were disappointed we would be unable to have our drinks on the lawn but the second we stepped inside the door of Springfort Hall we were greeted with laughter, singing and guests dancing and thoroughly enjoying themselves. It was worth any amount of sun on the lawn to walk into that on the day.

Initially we hadn’t intended on giving favors and instead chose to make a charitable donation to two charities. However, a family member very kindly gave us a wedding gift of small chocolate bars which we used on the day. We wrote out personalised notes for each guest on the day and it was one thing that all our guests commented on. It took us HOURS to complete but it really was worth it.

sweet-vintage-inspired-irish-wedding-at-springfort-hall-35

We wanted a cake made from cheese for our wedding cake. We have a tradition of attending The Milk Market in Limerick City every Christmas Eve. We also buy bucket loads of cheese there and we wanted to incorporate this tradition into our wedding day. We ordered our wheels of cheese from Pam and David at The Flying Cheese Brigade and then stacked them together with our beautiful wedding mice on top! Our guests loved it!

This Reading Art Works Wedding Takes Modern Minimalism to the Next Level

July 23, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

this-reading-art-works-wedding-takes-modern-minimalism-to-the-next-level-8

If you love modern minimalist wedding inspiration as much as we do, then you’ll adore this industrial Reading Art Works wedding! When choosing their wedding’s décor, Jen and Dan decided to keep their style clean and modern with splashes of copper, tons of greenery, and plenty of interesting architectural shapes. Since Dan is a graphic designer, he DIYed the entire stationary suite and even handcrafted all of the wooden signs and table runners seen around the venue! Photographer Marisa Albrecht captured this modern Pennsylvania wedding’s amazing natural light and spirit.

The Couple:

Jen and Dan

The Wedding:

Reading Art Works, Reading, Pennsylvania

this-reading-art-works-wedding-takes-modern-minimalism-to-the-next-level-7

The most important aspect of wedding planning was making sure the wedding felt really unique to us and our personal style and interests. We really wanted to put our own touches onto everything and make it feel more like a casual party with great music and food, while including all the people we love.

this-reading-art-works-wedding-takes-modern-minimalism-to-the-next-level-10

this-reading-art-works-wedding-takes-modern-minimalism-to-the-next-level-9

We chose our venue because we really wanted a blank slate that we could use for both the ceremony and reception. We were looking for an industrial space with big windows and lots of natural light. It was in Pennsylvania, where we both grew up. It was the perfect space for us!

this-reading-art-works-wedding-takes-modern-minimalism-to-the-next-level-14

Dan designed all of the paper items (invitations, menus/name cards, seating chart, table numbers, signs) and made wooden signs, table runners, etc. that really pulled everything together with the look of the venue. There were also numerous cans of copper spray paint used throughout planning!

My insanely talented bridesmaid and florist Lindsay went into my brain and made it come to life better than we could have ever imagined, with lots of ferns, white flowers and cacti. She also made an amazing circle backdrop behind us for the ceremony, which was one of our favorite things.

this-reading-art-works-wedding-takes-modern-minimalism-to-the-next-level-16

My uncle officiated our ceremony which was really amazing. We all sat down and wrote the ceremony a couple weeks before and kept it short and sweet. My sister in law and Dan‘s best friend also read readings that we both chose. We lit a unity candle and had our Mom’s come up and light the first candles, which we loved.

Working with our photographers Marisa and her husband Eric was so awesome! Since we met in Brooklyn one day for brunch and then shooting our engagement photos in Lancaster, we have become friends. They are some of the most genuine and sweet people and make you feel 100% relaxed on your wedding day. Shooting the first look on a parking garage roof and then driving around to a park to take photos with just them is one of our best memories from the day.

this-reading-art-works-wedding-takes-modern-minimalism-to-the-next-level-6

this-reading-art-works-wedding-takes-modern-minimalism-to-the-next-level-29

Our advice: Let go of any traditions that don’t apply to you personally or feelings you have about what a wedding should be. Once we focused on trying to make it feel more like a big party more than a wedding, things came easier for us! Also DIY some things together if you can because it’s fun! And let people help you! We couldn’t have done it without help from our friends and family.

We have a similar aesthetic when it comes to decorating our apartment, so planning a wedding was the same! We both really like copper accents, so we decided early on that would be the only real “color” surrounded by lots of white and greenery all over.

We both really loved our first dance. It was the moment when everything was sort of calming down and we could really focus on each other and relax & all the nerves washed away.

Botanical and Baby Blue San Francisco Wedding at Golden Gate Park

July 23, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-11

This sweet baby blue wedding in San Francisco takes botanical to a whole new level! Chelsea and Eric knew they wanted to reflect their fun personalities and jetsetting style in their wedding décor, so they decided to DIY their own bright florals and travel inspired crafts. After an emotional ceremony at Golden Gate Park, the guests were treated to a super fun low-key reception and the sweetest dessert table you’ve ever seen at Coffee Bar. We love how photographer Bethany Jeffery captured this wedding’s natural radiance and style!

On my wedding day I wanted to stay in the style that I was comfortable with, but just enhance everything. I tend to wear a retro style, so I made sure my wedding dress was a classic style that worked well with my shape and my real self. I did my own hair, but tried to amp up the volume, doing a sort of June Carter, half-up-half-down with a lot of volume (I love my bump-it!). I kept my accessories minimal, and again, stuck with what I normally wear because I knew that would make me most comfortable.

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-3

We wanted our vibe to be relaxed, fun and eclectic. I ended up having a bit of a Desert/Mexican theme in the invitations, food, favors and decorations which brought in a traveler feel. We are big travelers and I think including nostalgic, international ephemera rang true to who we are.

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-45

The most memorable part of the day was definitely walking down the aisle. We spent the day getting ready in a family house near Golden Gate Park. When the bridesmaids and I were ready, we walked from the house to the park and I remember so vividly standing with my best friends, mother and sister-in law and mom right before we started the processional, giddy and excited. I was excited but very calm because I knew I was in the exact right place. Smiling and watching my husband as I walked down the aisle was the most wonderful and happy experience of my life.

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-6

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-7

My favorite photo taken by our photographer is us walking back down the aisle during the recessional. We both have the biggest smiles of our lives and look so happy and joyful. It perfectly captures our feelings at that moment and the whole day!

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-15

I wanted an eclectic look for my bridal party, so I had the girls choose their own outfits in a color palette. They know their style and bodies best so I knew they’d look great in whatever they chose. They wore gold accessories (whatever they wanted), and some did little gold tattoos (like I did). We were all tied together by the floral flower crowns we wore, that we made ourselves the day before.

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-16

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-22

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-17

We chose the venue for our ceremony, Shakespeare Garden in Golden Gate Park, because the park means so much to us. We wanted to get married outdoors, and my husband grew up next to the park during his whole childhood, so it’s a special place for us. It was walking distance from his parents house so it was a perfect fit for our needs.

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-18

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-19

I did the flowers for the wedding (along with all my friends!) The day before the wedding, I went to the San Francisco Flower Mart with a couple hundred dollars in cash, and just bought as many flowers as I could. We brought them all back to the house, and got together lots of glass jars and vases that we had been saving up over the year. I invited all my friends to come over and we had a day party in the backyard putting together all the flowers in the vases, making the flower crowns and boutonnieres and my wedding bouquet. It was such a fun way to spend some quality time with my friends, and be fun and creative together.

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-20

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-21

Keep it fun and casual! Unless your style is fancy and formal! Everyone says this, but it’s so important to do whatever you want on the day. It really isn’t for other people and the people who love you will enjoy seeing a party done in your style. There are so many less restrictions and formalities these days, and I think people should take advantage of that. Keeping the day casual and fun made the whole party vibe relaxed throughout the day!

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-9

I’d also advise hiring a wedding coordinator for the day of the event. I didn’t need a wedding planner for the organizing process, but for the day of, it would have been nice to have someone there herding and shepherding to keep things on time. Since it’s not that fun of a task, you should job it out to someone you don’t know to keep things from getting dramatic.

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-23

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-25

Our reception was held at our favorite coffee shop, Coffee Bar, in the Mission. We wanted a unique space that wasn’t too weddingy. They were wonderfully accommodating and let us do all that we wanted to do.

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-26

We gave out baby potted cacti with little flags that said “Viva Los Kramps!” on them, which was our wedding motto. Our dear friends Katey and Garrett Henry handled all the wedding favors as their wedding present to us. They bought and arranged them all and spent the day before the wedding potting them in tiny hand painted pots!

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-27

botanical-and-baby-blue-portland-wedding-at-golden-gate-park-37

I wanted the whole day to feel relaxed, so I tried to keep things a little “undone” by having loose flower arrangements, intentionally “messy” style cakes and letting the bridesmaids choose their own dresses, shoes and hair styles so nothing was too matchy-matchy.

Working with my photographer was wonderful! Bethany was so thoughtful and thorough. She made sure to get all the shots and kinds of vignettes I wanted. She also listened to my fears about the photos on the day of, and made sure to make pictures in such a way that made me look my best. She came up with wonderful creative ideas, and was also there to get all the natural candid shots, and captured all the special moments on the day.
