This Bespoke Southern Highlands Wedding Features the Sweetest Moments

June 14, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

We can’t get enough of the sweet moments and natural details in Lauren and Tim’s Southern Highlands wedding! The couple hosted their wedding at the groom’s family home in New South Wales, and they created elegant vibes at their reception with warm, bespoke details like hanging floral installations, tons of candlelight, and great speeches. From orchids to proteas to the loads of greenery, the jaw-dropping floral design by Shady Fig is seriously inspiring! Damien Milan Photography captured Lauren and Tim’s special day beautifully, including their stunning and dramatic portraits over the venue’s lake.

The Couple:

Lauren and Tim

The Wedding:

Private Residence, New South Wales, Australia

Tim‘s family have a beautiful property in the NSW Southern Highlands, which we always thought was a perfect spot for the wedding. The property has significance for us both, in part because it was where we spent many weekends together when we lived in different cities for a period. Autumn is also a striking time in this area, and we knew the property would look stunning.

Our advice: Find suppliers you like and trust, and feel you have a personal connection with. Know that no matter how organised you are, it will still be a mad rush with 2 months to go. Keep things in perspective – don’t make small decisions big issues. Enjoy the journey as well as the outcome!

The whole day was memorable for us but there were quite a few standouts. Firstly, the speeches were all amazingly funny, emotional and heartfelt. Another highlight was the photos, from laughing with our families in the portraits, to being able to sneak away with just us (and the photographers!) and have some quiet moments to reflect.

Given the our wedding was on a family property, we wanted the wedding to centre around the house and make the most of the beautiful surrounds. As such, were keen to find suppliers who could provide us with a bespoke approach, and who understood the feeling we wanted to create for our guests. We also both gravitated towards the food, and took a lot of joy in finding a caterer and planner who would make the food a real feature at the wedding.

Given the ceremony and reception were both on the family property, we wanted to keep a relaxed country feel. The ceremony and drinks were in the garden, with a singer/guitar duo and lawn games. We wanted this to extend into the marquee, and our wedding planner and florist did an amazing job at creating a warm and relaxed feeling in the marquee with lots of linen, candlelight and foliage dripping from the ceiling.

This Black and White Avalon Hotel Wedding is Like a Mini Vacation

June 13, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

From Avalon Hotel‘s old Hollywood glam vibes to the cocktail hour’s synchronized swimmer performance, this Palm Spring wedding channels all sorts of magic! Crystal and Gage wanted their wedding to feel worlds away from the daily grind, so they treated their 70 guests to an extraordinary evening under the California stars. The couple’s ceremony set the tone with a unity sky lantern lighting and a dramatic recessional led by a marching band, then was followed by synchronized swimmers and a jaw-dropping first dance (it was a tango!) at the reception. Crystal and Gage decorated their venue with old Hollywood-inspired décor featuring fresh lemons, tons of foliage, and a classic black and white palette. We can’t get enough of the vibrant and lively photos that Let’s Frolic Together captured of Crystal and Gage’s surreal day!

The Couple:

Crystal and Gage

The Wedding:

Avalon Hotel, Palm Springs, California

We wanted our wedding to be fun and memorable, not only for us but for each of our guests. We didn’t want a cookie cutter wedding.

My wedding day look was inspired by Silver screen starlets like Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth. I loved that my dress was one of a kind and I just adored the over the top, ultra feminine bow on the back. After looking through hundreds of bridesmaid gowns, I decided to custom design my bridesmaids dresses.

First and foremost we wanted an outdoor wedding without the threat of rain. Secondly, we wanted a location that people couldn’t resist. We wanted our wedding to not only be fun for us, but we wanted it to be fun and memorable for each of our guests. Like a mini vacation! A break from everyday reality. We picked the Avalon Palm Springs because we love the Hollywood regency design style that accentuates the mid century architecture that makes Palm Springs so special.

We wanted a theme that went well with the vibe of Palm Springs. After much deliberation we chose a classic old hollywood black and white, “California fresh” theme. Think Mad Men meets Rat Pack. Black, white and foliage were our colors. When I design I have a tendency to have a feminine aesthetic so I wanted a color palette that wasn’t too girly that my husband would love.

We personalized our ceremony by lighting and sending off a Chinese sky lantern which is a traditional way of symbolizing two souls uniting.

At our reception we chose black and white stripe runners with gold accents. Lots of white votive candles so the entire setting glowed. We chose 5 different types of Roses, Hydrangeas, tulips, ranunculus, peonies, Anemone and fresh lemons. All different shades of white accented with crisp lemon leaf. We wanted our colors to be classy and classic.

You’re Not Dreaming, This Seattle Garden Wedding Really is This Pretty

June 12, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Rachel and David wanted their Seattle wedding to be as heartfelt and personal as possible, so they threw a backyard bash in their family’s garden! With the help of Gather Events, the couple transformed their family home into a lovely summer soiree featuring live jazz, a vintage-inspired cocktail bar, and stunning DIY accents. Photographer Benj Haisch captured every detail of this Seattle garden wedding beautifully, including the gorgeous greenery-forward floral design by July Floral Design.

The Couple:

Rachel and David

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Seattle, Washington

We really aimed to plan a party that we would want to attend. We kept some traditional wedding aspects, but weren’t afraid to do away with the ones that were less important to us.

The majority of our guests were from out-of-town and we felt we couldn’t have chosen a more personal or special venue to welcome our friends and family than my family home in Seattle. Getting married in a space that is not set up as a “venue” did create some challenges, but it was totally worth it for us to be able to celebrate our marriage in such a meaningful place. We utilized every square inch of the house and garden!

The garden inspired our wedding vibe. The garden was in bloom, so we kept the wedding palette neutral allowing the florals to standout. We wanted the reception to feel like a whimsical summer garden soiree, complete with live jazz, vintage cocktails and PNW-inspired small plates.

We DIYed a few things! My mom baked our wedding desserts, designed and put together the table centerpieces, and was a major collaborator in terms of overall event design. I designed our invitations. My uncle crafted our wedding favors – lavender sachets with a personalized stamp. Everyone (sisters, parents, aunts, uncles and friends) cut and constructed a lot of bunting!

Choose a few details to focus on and trust your vendors to do the rest. We focused on décor we could assemble ahead of time and we left most of the day-of items to the pros.
