This Agriturismo Savoca Wedding is a Sicilian Woodland Wonderland

January 17, 2020 | brooke

Serenity, mysticism, and harmony were among the words Claudia and Fabio wrote down when dreaming of their wedding day. Their magical, fairytale-inspired day at Agriturismo Savoca surrounded by tall, lush trees, was nothing short of their dreams come true! The couple made every choice intentionally, including their decision to use green as their main color, as it symbolizes life, luck, and hope. We’re simply enchanted by the photos Federica Cavicchi captured of Claudia and Fabio’s ceremony filled with rituals and elements of earth, wind, and air. If whimsical details, custom made wedding gowns, and special traditions are your thing, you’re sure to fall in love with this storybook day at Agriturismo Savoca in Italy!

The Couple:

Claudia & Fabio

The Wedding:

Agriturismo Savoca, Sicily, Italy

I wanted to have a wide and at the same time tight and sensual princess dress. I managed to get both. I liked being able to remove the wide skirt placed over it, mid-evening, giving the impression of having a completely different second dress. From princess to mermaid. Even the details in the hair was a choice I really loved. Streaks lost among waves that ended with feathers which were present almost everywhere: in the bunch, among the flowers and in the eyelets of the groom, of witnesses and pageboys.

We were looking for a forest venue. Our desire was to walk a natural aisle, composed of trunks of trees and not of stone or marble columns. Something buried to rediscover, traditions and truths easy to relive. Based on the most popular fairy tales in the world, of which the forest has always been the background, almost always focused on the contrast of a bright, safe, muffled world of the village and the dark and insidious one of the forest, a typically medieval antithesis. We wanted a fairy tale typical of the Grimm brothers storytelling.
Our goal was to make nature the main theme. From the faiths kept inside a bird’s nest, to the inspiration of the green clothes, for the 5 bridesmaids. We wrote on a paper a series of words related to what we wanted to experience, perceive and transmit to others that day: softness, delicacy, serenity, magic, mysticism, transformation, metamorphosis, melancholy, fantasy, naturalness, harmony, perfection, omnipotence, love.

Writing a letter with all our vows was the most important for both of us and the most difficult at the same time. Thanks to the officiant we were able to do it. Telling us those precious words in front of all the people we love was so scary and important, as well.

The ritual was dedicated to the elements of nature; the release of the butterflies, their flight was connected to the air element. The creation of a single flame through two candles evoked the fire element. Then we planted a succulent mixing the lands of our places of origin to represent the earth element. To represent the water element, we got our hands wet stroking the leaves of the plant. Wet the hands stroking the leaves of the plant. And finally, the fifth element from which all the other elements originate, the element of the spirit, was represented through the Celtic ritual of the ribbons.

My favorite photo is of the kiss at the end of the ceremony because it reminds me of the final scene of each fairy tale. When the protagonists walk away in a carriage, kissing, with the phrase “and they lived happily ever after” From the lights, the framing and the crown of flowers that frames us in the background really do seem magical to me.

We personally think that the most important choice to make when planning a wedding is the photographer: the one who will provide you with memories you can relive forever, all those tiny but precious moments.

We gave some seedlings placed inside a biodegradable coconut fiber jar. Inviting guests to nurture and grow the donated plant in a larger area.

The chosen color that dominated the whole was dark green. With touches of white and gold details. Green: Color of the nature of the woods, a symbol of life, luck, and hopes. It represents solidity, green is the stem that holds the flower.
