This Modern Minimalist One Eleven East Wedding Began with an Emotional Serenade

January 20, 2019 | juliette

There’s something so heartwarming about a bride or groom surprising their partner on their wedding day, and the surprise serenade in this One Eleven East wedding is one of the sweetest we’ve seen! Ellen and Nick’s wedding day was planned to be as minimalist and modern as possible so they and their guests could focus on the true purpose of the day. Rather than add too much decor, they brought in lots of fresh greenery and white flowers designed by The Heirloom Table and simple gold table accents, and nothing more. The rest of their vibe was created with raw emotion, overflowing joy, and the goal to be fully present in every moment, all of which Diana Ascarrunz Photography managed to capture so beautifully. From Nick’s surprise serenade outside Ellen’s getting-ready room to the reactions during the speeches and toasts, everything about this small-town Texas wedding was heartfelt and real.

Nick surprised me before the ceremony by singing me a song he had been practicing. It was a total surprise and Diana, our photographer, helped orchestrate the whole thing. She even had the bridal party stand on the stairs throughout the whole thing, which made for some amazing photos.

We wanted to go with a minimalistic style. I have been to weddings where there are so many details it almost becomes too much. In order to keep it clean and aesthetically pleasing, we decided to have a few well thought out details. We have over 50 houseplants in our house, so we decided to incorporate our love of greenery.

At the beginning of the planning, I knew two things for sure: I wanted my bridesmaids to wear white, and I wanted them to love their dress! I wanted them to feel beautiful and to look back on the photos and love how they looked on that day. That was very important to me. My mom always tells stories of being in hideous bridesmaids dresses and that’s what she remembers most about those weddings.

I was very careful about The vendors I chose. I remember some friends telling me that I was being too picky, but having the right people there who understand the look you’re going for and what you care most about it so important, it made our day seamless and everyone went above our expectations.

The speeches were really great. We thought long and hard about who we wanted to speak. It’s hard to know what those close to you will choose to share about you and how they see your relationship from their perspective. All the speeches were so unique and heartwarming.
