This Couple Built Their Charming Yorkshire Wedding From the Ground Up

August 14, 2017 | colleen

Roxy and Jez’s DIY Yorkshire wedding gave us all the heart eyes. With the ceremony space being so close to the bride and groom, from childhood vacations to the proposal spot, it was a no brainer for them to promise their love to one another in the same field at Yorkshire Dales National Park. Their many personal touches, including a DIY door entrance to the ceremony space and homemade wedding gown, only added to the sentiment of their wedding day. Ryan from Shutter Go Click captured the day beautifully with his double-exposures and attention to emotion.

The Couple:

Roxy and Jez

The Wedding:

Yorkshire Dales National Park, Yorkshire, England

Both of our birthdays were 2 weeks before the wedding so we coupled wedding/birthday gifts and bought each other perfumes.

The ceremony under the tree where Roxy‘s Grandmothers ashes are scattered – and also where Jez proposed!

The venue is a special place for the bride. A tiny hamlet in the middle of a valley in the Yorkshire Dales where her family have been since she was a little girl. The legal ceremony took part in Leyburn Regisary office – just immediate family. We then repeated our vows under the special tree with all of our friends and family.

Roxy and her father built a door/archway with two old distressed doors, a trellis and beautiful faux flowers from Peony Flowers (who also did the bridal bouquet).

My wedding dress was made by my wonderful Aunty which made it really special. We gave the bridesmaids and groomsmen the colour scheme and they chose their own outfits. Everyone coordinated without being completely matching, which was more in keeping with our day.

Ryan from Shutter Go Click was amazing from the moment we first met him, throughout the actual day and afterwards. So many wonderful comments from friends and family with the photos, he captures it all so beautifully!

We hired a marquee and a hog roast, apart from those everything else was done ourselves or by our wonderful friends and family.

  4. Congratulations! I really love your wedding! I love the DIY door entrance. And that dress is homemade? It looked stunning on the bride! When we were shopping for that one dress, I couldn’t say yes to anything despite several appointments to local bridal boutiques. I took the search online and had better luck than when I was hitting the pavement. I finally found my dress from this global wedding marketplace https://ibride.com/, So stoked I have that one take care of now :)
