Sultry and Romantic California Wedding at Fullerton Arboretum

January 7, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Ajai and Jonathan’s romantic wedding at Fullerton Arboretum was inspired by the sultry vibes of the groom’s New Orleans roots and the couple’s adventurous engagement photo session in Joshua Tree. The arboretum, a sprawling botanical garden bursting with life, was the perfect setting for a seriously romantic garden wedding complete with a bespoke marquee from Create A Party hung with chandeliers and twinkling lights. The bride, a party planner and designer in her own right, DIY’d loads of the amazingly details but created the most beautiful floral arrangements from the eucalyptus gardens at the reception to the elegant bridal bouquets and flower crowns of mint, roses, and baby’s breath. Kayci Decker Photography recreated the magic from the couple’s desert engagement session, encouraging them to climb boulders and adventure in their formal attire on their wedding day for some unforgettable couple portraits.

The Couple:

Ajai and Jonathan

The Wedding:

Fullerton Arboretum, Fullerton, California

The most memorable part of the day was our first look. We were overwhelmed with so much emotion and the anticipation of seeing one another for the first time before we said “I do.”

Kayci was truly a gift from God. She kept us so calm and helped to regulate so many things. She certainly kept smiles on the faces of all our guests, and even danced with us at our reception. We were so comfortable with her the entire day. Kayci is now like family to us. We love her.

The most important think to us was creating an environment that was so romantic and so magical that by the end of the night everyone was left inspired and reminded that love still exists.

Try not to get so caught up with every single detail. Just remember that day is to celebrate the love you have for one another.

Our favorite photo was taken while standing on top of a boulder in the Fullerton Arboretum’s warm weather Eco system, and we had a blast climbing up the rocks to take those photos on our special day. We had taken a similar photo during our engagement photo shoot in Joshua Tree with our photographer, Kayci; And during this shoot, we were both so nervous climbing the boulders in our formal attire. Kayci told us to trust her, so we let go of our our worries, and the photos came out absolutely amazing – same as the adventurous photos we took on our wedding day.

Jonathan‘s family is from New Orleans. We wanted our wedding to convey a sultry and romantic vibe. We felt like the Arboretum was the perfect place and it exuded just that. We loved the ponds in the arboretum, and the arbor where our ceremony was held was breathtaking.

I DIY’ed almost everything, but my favorite DIY was the floral arrangements. My bouquet, the bridemaids bouquets, and the boutonnieres for my groom and the groomsmen. I went the the flower district the day before and handpicked my favorites: eucalyptus, mint, roses, baby’s breath, and a few more beauties.

Enchanting Brisbane Indoor Garden Wedding at Vieille Branche

January 6, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Vivien and Cienwen’s wedding at Vieille Branche, a creative urban garden in the heart of Brisbane, was a gorgeously delicate mix of emotion and beauty. Using the antique French ambiance, with plenty of planning help from Gathering Events and the expertise of Wild At Heart floral design, the backstreet venue was transformed into a magical indoor garden hidden from the outside world. The couple was stylishly dressed in a Catherine Deane wedding gown and elegant Germanico Tailors suit with charming florals of eucalyptus and summer berries, for a fresh, corresponding look perfect for a vintage-inspired garden reception. We love how this celebration was full of locally sourced and environmentally friendly details, from vegan catering even to thoughtful alcohol and dinnerware. Peppermint Photography captured every moment of this stunning wedding, from some seriously elegant getting ready photos, a touching first look, until the newlyweds hopped in an Uber at the end of the night!

The Couple:

Vivien and Cienwen

The Wedding:

Vieille Branche, Brisbane, Australia

We wanted the day to reflect us and we wanted our guests to feel comfortable, free to be themselves and to have a great time.

It was all so good. The ceremony is our favorite part though. It felt magical both visually (the venue is beautiful) and emotionally (there was so much love in that room).

Put your time, attention and money into the things that matter to you most. Doing this will mean your wedding reflects you both individually and as a couple and those are the best kinds of weddings.

We DIY’d coconut ice and rum balls, bouquets and table decorations, dessert table serving ware andaccessories, the gift table decorations, which included the wedding photos of our grandparents and parents, and our invitations – they were amazing. This is all thanks to our friend Scott who helped design them. We printed them on seeded paper. Our guests are now enjoying watching their invitations bloom.

Jen from Gathering Events and her staff were the stand out for us – they are amazing. Post wedding we have had family contact us just to let us know how amazing. Jen coordinated everything on the day and for the month leading up to it. She helped us when we had little problems to work through, decisions to make and people to organize and she did it in a way that balanced the right amount of support with the right amount of ownership for us.

We used environmentally friendly dinnerware andhad a vegan/vegetarian menu with locally sourced produce and vendors. Our alcohol was all from Australian companies who support green friendly practices. It was plentiful and delicious.

Dreamy Downtown Portland Wedding at Urban Studio

January 6, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Melina and Justin’s downtown Portland wedding completely transformed Urban Studio, a contemporary historic venue boasting industrial-inspired warehouse features, with an open floor plan, exposed beams, high ceilings, and oversized windows with the help of SueBlue Events. The modern venue was perfect for an airy neutral color palette of white, gold, and nude that echoed throughout the bridesmaids dresses, the underlying layers of the bride’s Watters lace wedding dress, and DIY candleholders, centerpieces and greenery. The studio was the perfect setting for a celebration featuring great food, drink, and music but even more perfect for a memorable and incredibly personalized non-religious ceremony officiated by the bride’s stepfather. Baylee Dennis Photography captured every moment with particular ease, having taken the couple’s engagement photos, while Jessica Heron Images created an incredible video of this dreamy day.

The Couple:

Melina and Justin

The Wedding:

Urban Studio, Portland, Oregon

Our wedding colors were white, gold and nude. It actually wasn’t until after I had found my wedding shoes and bridesmaids dresses that I realized what our wedding colors would be. My dress has layers of nude and gold linings with a lace layer over the top of the entire dress. I happened to find my shoes andlater realized they matched perfectly with the gold layer of my dress. We then found nude color bridesmaids dresses that complimented my dress so well. When I saw how neutral but classy those colors looked together, I knew I wanted to make those our wedding colors.

We wanted a day that not only we would remember but that our guests would remember too. Great food, drink and music was a top priority but to have all the people we love the most in one room celebrating our love with us was something we were so grateful for. We also wanted all our hard work to be worth it!

I think our ceremony was probably the most memorable part of our day. We asked my stepdad to officiate our wedding and we are so happy we did. He put so much thought into making his speech so personal for us. We couldn’t have asked for a better person to have married us.

If you can hire a wedding planner and/or coordinator, I would highly recommend it. If you’re like me anddon’t have a creative or organized bone in your body, getting any kind of help is well worth it. I hired a day of coordinator and did not regret it one bit. She made sure everything ran smoothly and on time.

As of right now, we are still waiting on the rest of our pictures but we have received some sneak peaks! The very night of our wedding, after our photographer had finished shooting for our wedding, she must have gone straight home and started working on them because she sent us the most beautiful shot of me and my husband. It’s a picture of the two of us smiling and embracing each other with my veil almost wrapped around us, blowing in the wind. My heart melts every time I see it.

Baylee was amazing! She had also taken our engagement pictures a few months prior so we already knew what a joy she was to work with. The day of our wedding she arrived at the hotel we were getting ready at and as soon as she saw the aesthetic of the hotel, she immediately got to work! You could just see the wheels turning in her head. The rest of the day was the same. She was able to capture the most amazing shots in areas you wouldn’t think would be photo worthy.

We went very simple with our decor but there were a few things we did have that we DIY’d. I purchased many glass bulb candle holders that I spray painted gold which was one of our wedding colors. My mom made the fern wreaths that hung at our alter, which she actually found the idea from another wedding on this very blog! And the final two things we DIY’d that were probably most proud of were our seating chart and ‘Unplugged Ceremony’ signs. I found several ideas I liked on Etsy but to save money and create a more personalized feel my husband suggested creating them ourselves using a program he uses for work called InDesign. They turned out better than we could have imagined!
