This Dia De Los Muertos Wedding Celebrates Mexican Heritage

October 31, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

We’ve got a special Halloween treat: a Dia De Los Muertos wedding that was as sweet as it was beautiful! As Tirza and Chris got closer to their wedding day, they changed their plans completely and decided on an elopement that paid homage to their loved ones based on the Mexican tradition of Dia De Los Muertos.

Spell Bundle did an incredible job helping bring their vision to life with vibrant florals on their sweetheart table Offrenda, which featured framed photos, traditional sweets, and a desert-inspired wedding cake made by Sweet And Lovely Co.

From full skeleton makeup to a boho-inspired wedding dress and flower crown (also created by Sweet And Lovely Co) to traditional mariachi attire, this couple went all-out for the theme, and we’re in love with all of it! Every moment was a true celebration of love and of life, and Chuy Photo captured every detail brilliantly!

Their Photographer’s Thoughts

The couple had extraordinary plans to elope at an epic location. They had all the plans set with their stylist and florists until the month of October when they reached out to all of us to change up their entire plan. Unfortunately, the majority of their family has passed and, coming from a Mexican heritage background, Day of the Dead is an important day for them to celebrate their relatives that have passed. They had picture frames of their loved ones as if they were there on what is called an Ofrenda. The groom also plays in a Mariachi band with some of his relatives and closest friends. Their entire energy was so impactful from the start!

Minimalist Tropical Perth Wedding at The Flour Factory

October 31, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Catherine and James’ wedding at The Flour Factory was essentially a masterclass in tropical minimalism! The modern Australian restaurant venue was the perfect backdrop for their day, offering a blank canvas for Lily & Leather to fill the space with tropical foliage, unique blooms, and captivating installations that brought a sense of freshness and fun to every corner. We love the sentimental details the couple infused into their special day, such as the handmade candles they poured for each guest, Catherine’s wedding gown that was made using her mom’s wedding dress (which was made by her grandmother), and James’ nod to his Scottish heritage with his tartan kilt. There was so much beauty and so many heartfelt moments in this Perth wedding, we have to give kudos to iZO Photography for capturing it all with such attention to detail!

The Couple:

Catherine and James

The Wedding:

The Flour Factory, Perth, Western Australia

Food was one of Jimmy‘s priorities, so we knew we needed somewhere with an awesome menu! We are also both Passionate Perth Professionals who work in the CBD so we wanted somewhere in City Central. We wanted our day to be easy and enjoyable for our guests, so we needed somewhere for both the ceremony and reception with a great atmosphere to chill while we went off for photos between these two parts of the day. I had organized events at The Flour Factory previously and knew the staff was fantastic!

Our wedding ceremony was definitely the most memorable part of the day! To tell the story of our lives together as we became “Partners on Paper” for life in front of our nearest and dearest was amazing. We all laughed throughout our entire ceremony — it was really fun and very sweet.

Our ceremony was the work of an amazingly gifted and lovely local celebrant, Kirk Goodsell. Kirk made our ceremony! He was the perfect blend of fun and gravitas. We wrote our own vows, which we read to each other the night before to make sure we could get through them, and then Kirk filled the ceremony with funny and sweet stories of our lives together.

Our advice: work with your partner as a team. Together, you will have so much fun planning this awesome day! We really enjoyed planning our wedding because we had a clear vision and a very structured plan. We did all of our planning ourselves and engaged incredible local talent to bring our vision to life. Also, involve people in the planning who support you and make it fun. It doesn’t need to be stressful! We absolutely loved planning our wedding and the lovely, local creatives we worked with were a bonus!

Our families were a big part of our wedding day “looks”. My wedding dress was actually two pieces. I designed it with my Mum and an incredible local designer using my Mum’s wedding dress that was handmade over thirty years ago by her Nanna. Jimmy and his brother wore kilts in the tartan of their Clan designed and made in Scotland.

Our family and friends are so important to us. We wouldn’t be who we are and where we are without them, so giving them something from us was really important. Together we made over 100 scented candles to burn on the day, as well as gifts for our loved ones. We used recycled glass jars (many given to us from our families — they ate a lot of jam in the lead-up!). We painted the lids and had custom stickers made with our names, wedding date, and a note of love and thanks!

This Retro Glam Bougainvillea Estate Wedding was Inspired by Frank Sinatra and Desert Blooms

October 30, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

By now you know how we feel about floral-forward wedding decor, so it should come as no surprise that we’re freaking out over the floral designs Shindig Chic created for Nicolette and Dan’s Bougainvillea Estate wedding! We’re talking desert-inspired centerpieces accented with fresh-cut fruit, vertical floral sculptures for both the ceremony backdrop and the seating chart, and wedding party bouquets bursting with texture and color. The palette was a perfect complement to the venue’s natural landscape, which featured gardens, a pool, and, as the name suggests, bougainvillea as far as the eye can see. In addition to the stunning design, Nicolette and Dan killed it with vintage Hollywood-inspired fashion, especially Nicolette’s sexy lace Berta gown that bordered on boho chic. Needless to say, every detail of this California estate wedding deserves a second (and third) look, which is why we’re so excited the oh-so-talented Lauren Scotti captured it all!

The Couple:

Nicolette and Dan

The Wedding:

Bougainvillea Estate, Indio, California

The most important part of wedding planning for us was creating a memorable fun event that we and our family and friends would remember our whole lives. Also, reflecting our personalities and all our favorite things in the small touches.

Processional – “Higher Love” by James Vincent McMorrow
Recessional – “Jackson” by Johnny Cash
First Dance – “Coming Home” by Leon Bridges

When searching for a venue, we knew we wanted to have something outdoors that had a desert vibe and where we could do the ceremony and reception. As a bonus, we stayed on the property with the wedding party and it was such a blast!

For our wedding day fashion, we wanted to incorporate the retro glamour of the desert (think Frank Sinatra vibe) with modern, bohemian vibes. I am obsessed with all the Israeli wedding dress designers. When I found my dress, I knew it was a perfect dress to be glamorous while still modern and a bit edgy.
