You’ll Love the DIY Island Vibes in This Chase Palm Park Wedding

August 6, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

With the perfect blend of bohemian and tropical vibes, Elle and Nate’s wedding at Chase Palm Park is the cool and casual wedding of our dreams. These two put their heart and soul into planning this lovely wedding with many DIY elements including everything from dip-dyed indigo napkins to home-brewed moonshine at the bar. The fun and lowkey feel to Elle and Nate’s wedding led to lots of happy tears throughout the day and dancing under the stars thanks to DJ Gavin Roy Presents keeping the party going through the night. You can see all of the joy, excitement, and emotion thanks to photographer Nicole Kirshner Photography and videographer David Gardner Media documenting the gorgeous day.

There’s no sharper memory I’ll carry than the first sight of my soon-to-be-husband and all of our family and friends when I began my walk down the aisle.

Our ceremony was so much fun to plan. Our officiant is a lifelong family friend of ours and an LAFD Chaplain – so there was already a bit of a twist! He is known for being playful and Nate and I are known for our love of competition, so when it came time to decide who was going to read their vows first, Roger had us each throw a cornhole bag and the loser had to go first! I, of course, lost, because Nate is amazing at EVERYTHING. It was so much fun and really lightened up the moment and showed our personalities.

Our #1 goal throughout the planning process was for our wedding to represent US! We never take ourselves too seriously so we wanted it to feel bright, fun, colorful and casual.

Don’t overthink it! We put off a lot of decisions because we thought we needed more time to really plan it out, but in the end we ended up going with our gut anyways – and we couldn’t have been happier with the result!

We DIY’d nearly everything! We bought indigo died fabric at Joann’s and Hobby Lobby to cut and tie our dinner napkins, we broke terra cotta pots and stuck names on them with vinyl for the place cards, and countless family members and friends came together to help get it all done – nearly 300 of each! My sister Ashley is a craft WIZARD, and she created our invitation suite and program. Another fun DIY project was a small, circular card with a picture of a whistle on it – anyone with one of those at their place setting got to get my dad’s home-brewed moonshine from the bar! It was a huge hit.

Amy at Wild Story Floral is crazy creative and does it all with TWO baby girls running around. As an aspiring floral designer myself, I was completely in awe of her work and super inspired for my own. She was one of my best wedding decisions, hands down!

Our photographer, Nicole Kirshner, was absolutely outstanding start to finish. She was personal, professional, and beyond talented. Her photos blew us away and she truly became our friend along the way. Such a joy to work with!

The biggest surprise of the day came when the DJ announced the garter toss, and Nate walked on to the dance floor with a MICROPHONE!! He sang “Joy of My Life” by John Fogerty to me before removing and tossing my garter. This song is so special to us because the first time Nate came camping with my family, my dad made us all listen to it in the trailer and sang every word.

Modern Indian Wedding at Hummingbird Nest Ranch with a Dose of Rock ‘n’ Roll

August 5, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Ami and Josh’s Indian wedding at Hummingbird Nest Ranch combined tradition with a rock and roll twist for a true one-of-a-kind LA experience. Taking a cue from outdoor music festivals, they created different moods and experiences in different areas of the venue, including a ceremony was bursting with luxuriant florals from Yamamoto Design and a reception that was refined and elegant, with a slightly rustic feel. The floral arrangements, the eclectic decor, and the views around the venue were all gorgeous, but nothing compared to the couple’s wedding day attire, which featured both traditional Indian wedding wear and more modern outfits that had a traditional undertone. There were so many exceptional details and romantic moments throughout this wedding day, and Matei Horvath Photography captured every single one with such creativity and ease!

The Couple:

Ami and Josh

The Wedding:

Hummingbird Nest Ranch, Santa Susana, California

The vast majority of our friends and family were traveling to Los Angeles to celebrate, and we wanted to treat them to a ‘Rock n Roll Indian Wedding’ experience with good California vibes all around. We took inspiration from outdoor music festivals and other creative productions that were very thoughtful on stage-craft and keeping people entertained. We even had a hand-picked playlist for every part of the day from the bus rides in, to the moments when guests were entering the reception tent and beyond.

Even though we knew it’d be stressful, our wedding had to be outdoors and it had to be unique, which is why we did not consider any resorts or hotels during our search. Hummingbird Nest Ranch is a picturesque multi-site compound that allowed for different ambiances and setups for the different parts of the day including ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception — each surrounded by natural colors and fresh air.

For our ceremony, we created personal vows, made sure to get all close friends and family involved, and of course made sure to have wonderful music throughout — including sitar accompaniment from a professional sitar player.

Naturally Elegant Arkansas Wedding at Kindred Barn

August 5, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

From the decor to the wedding party attire, Madi and Jay’s Arkansas wedding at Kindred Barn was natural, elegant, and effortlessly beautiful. The white barn proved to be the perfect backdrop for a fresh, summery vibe, which Kindred Blooms brought to life with lush greenery, understated floral elements, and a stunning ceremony wreath installation! The couple also used a color palette of light blue, light grey, and a hint of pink to enhance that summery feel and give the overall design an airy yet elegant look. From Madi’s sweet reveal to her father to Jay’s emotional reaction as he saw his bride walk down the aisle to the dance party photos at the end of the night, photographer TJ Stansbury didn’t miss a beat of this beautiful barn wedding!

The Couple:

Madi and Jay

The Wedding:

Kindred Barn, Crawford County, Arkansas

One of the most important things in planning for us was picking the photographer. For us, the pictures are what stays with you from your wedding day forever. It was so crucial for us to find a photographer who would work so graciously with us to capture our perfect vision for the day. Picking a photographer with the same level of professionalism and people skills was so key to helping the day run smoothly.

From the groom: My favorite part of the day was undoubtedly seeing Madi walk down the aisle. Although it’s becoming mainstream to do the reveal beforehand, we decided on waiting until the aisle to see each other for the first time so that our ceremony would hold more raw emotion right off the bat. I’ll never forget that moment, which was undoubtedly the best 15 seconds of my life, let alone the most memorable moment of the day.

The most important part of our wedding was making sure that God was at the center of everything. Our efficient presented a nontraditional ceremony as he shared the gospel with our guests. Jay and I also had communion at the altar and were able to pray with our parents right before we said our vows.

Our advice would be to just enjoy the process! It’s easy to get caught up in the details especially in a social media generation. The week of the wedding I had a no social media rule for myself. I was able to enjoy our wedding for how it was with the freedom from the comparison of how others chose to do their wedding. Social media helps with decisions leading up to the big day, but once all of the decisions are made, there’s no point in stressing over the “what ifs” or “should haves.”

Kindred Barn was actually the only venue that we toured before we chose it. We just absolutely fell in love with the style and vibe of the barn. It was open and well lit and we knew that it would photograph so well. It also had a bridal sweet upstairs where the wedding party and I were able to stay there the night before the wedding.
