Vintage Parisian Inspired Mendocino Woodlands Wedding

September 10, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Seeing Marian and Will’s wedding at Mendocino Woodlands through the lens of Alexandra Cohen Photography made us feel like we not only stepped back in time and but also were transported to a different world! This artistic couple pulled out all the stops for their Parisian-inspired wedding in the woods. The bride not only styled the entire affair, but she also created nearly every detail, including the floral designs, for a vibe that was Great Gatsby glam meets Midsummer Night’s Dream earthy romance. As if that wasn’t enough, she wowed in a custom gown made by her brother and performed at the reception! Needless to say, we’re hopelessly in love with all the vintage goodness, all the cozy forest vibes, and all the incredible style in this one-of-a-kind California wedding!

The Couple:

Marian and Will

The Wedding:

Mendocino Woodlands, Mendocino, California

To personalize our ceremony, my husband and I spent months collecting old wine bottles, spraying them a dusty rose, and melting candlesticks. These lined a long antique Persian runner, which acted as our aisle. It is now in the walkway leading to our bedroom! We also had salt crystals lining the aisle. We bought a simple garden arbor which our dear friend and day of coordinator decorated with eucalyptus, white flowers, and two brass chandeliers. This is now in our garden. I hung crystals from the trees and each one of my bridesmaids had rose quarts hanging from there bouquets and held burning Palo Santo as they walked down the aisle. Lastly, my father-in-law and his sisters sang a song a cappella to start the ceremony and we had a few readings from friends before our personalized vows.

My brother made my dress! He is a wonderful designer – my brief was vintage, bohemian, mystical and woodsy while remaining classic and chic. I was amazed he managed to incorporate all these elements! He found the piece of beaded French lace first and then designed it around the fabric. I also wore a custom simple headpiece made from brass and rose quartz.

I planned the wedding myself. I collected candles throughout the year, made our wine bottle candle holders, made a seating chart out of old frames with alphabetized vintage keys and tags that were all handwritten. My aunt is a calligrapher and wrote all the name tags in white and forest green. I designed the ceremony area, cocktail hour, seating design, after hours s’ mores, and the dance hall. We even had an old suitcase with a variety of masks for guests to pull our late into the evening. We gifted our guests local Mendocino honey pots with our initials. And all the food and wine was local — our friend has a honey farm in Mendocino and gifted us the honey from her farm!

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Canton, Georgia

I have always been drawn towards different and unique looks for fashion. My wedding dress was extremely unique because it was a two piece. I never would have thought I would wear a two piece dress for my wedding, but when I put it on the first time I felt like the dress was made for me.

The thing I loved most about my bridesmaid dresses is that they were all different and they were all unique to the woman wearing the dress. I chose each dress specifically for each of my bridesmaids. I had them choose their size and send their dress to my address to I could make sure all the dresses matched and flowed well together.

The most memorable part of the day for us was the wedding ceremony. My father drove me to the ceremony in his old chevy truck that we would always take to the field to buy hay in when I was growing up.

I always knew I wanted my wedding in a field. After looking at venues, I never found one that had exactly what I wanted. This field is very special to me because I grew up going there every couple of weeks with my parents as a child to get hay for our horse. We decided to go for a risk and ask the farmer to have our wedding in his field. It was so special for me to be able to get ready in my childhood home and then drive right down the road to get married in a field I’ve always loved to look at.

After we exchanged our vows, it was important to us that our family, bridal party, and congregation lift us up in prayer as we become united as one in marriage. I will never forget the sniffles I heard and the tears I felt on my hands and shoulders as the ones I love the most gathered around Kevin and me during the time of prayer.

Colorful SoCal Greenhouse Wedding at Dos Pueblos Orchid Farm

September 8, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

We’re living for Britney and Aviv’s greenhouse wedding at Dos Pueblos Orchid Farm today! This foodie couple wanted a non-traditional venue that allowed them to be in nature while also allowing all of their guests to feel like they were part of the best dinner party imaginable. With a palette of spring-inspired pinks, blues, greens, and white, the couple and their planner, Amber Events, created a cool, casual vibe that complemented the eco-friendly indoor and outdoor spaces beautifully. Britney and Aviv also provided a feast to remember — including the most scrumptious dessert table — and even sent their guests home with family recipes! Our hats off to Alexandria Monette Photography, who managed to capture every dreamy moment of this lovely SoCal wedding!

The Couple:

Britney and Aviv

The Wedding:

Dos Pueblos Orchid Farm, Goleta, California

After we first got engaged, we started asking ourselves where we’d like to get married. We knew something with nature but wanted it to be untraditional. We stumbled upon weddings in greenhouses and fell in love with what we saw. When we looked in southern California, one option stood out – Dos Pueblos. As we looked at other weddings that had been there our heart was set. We assumed it was too expensive and toured 8 venues. Finally, we decided to reach out, did our final venue tour and the rest is history. We loved being able to make the space uniquely ours.

From the bride: The most memorable moment, for me, was that first moment I got to lay eyes on Aviv during the first look. I got to walk to him through the luscious greenhouse and could see he already looked extremely handsome. Seeing his face light up as he turned around and finally getting to be with him on the day of the event made me feel elated and at peace! I will never forget his big smile and how he made me do a spin for him in my dress.

From the groom: I remember leaving the ceremony hand in hand with Britney, finally married and so happy. As we walked past the last row of chairs Britney, all smiles and out of breath said, “Ok, we did it. We did it! Let’s get in the car and go now!” I was so ready. We figured we should probably enjoy the party, but I’ll always have the memory that we just wanted to run away together. Nothing else mattered, just the two of us.

The big favor was actually on the last page of our menu cards. We are huge foodies and cooks as well, so we chose eight family recipes from both sides and some of our own to showcase. Even Aviv‘s famous pickle recipe! Each menu had its own story about the recipe and its significance. People absolutely loved them and parents were so touched. We even heard Aviv‘s Aunt collected all eight while people were on the dance floor so she wouldn’t miss a single recipe.

Our relationship formed a strong bond over amazing meals all over Los Angeles. Once we moved in together, our love of food continued in the kitchen as we cooked and hosted many dinners. For our wedding, we knew we wanted a delicious meal and drink selection that had people saying “Wow! This isn’t typical wedding fare”. We’d heard stories of brides and grooms forgetting to eat on their wedding day, and that was definitely not us!
