Vintage Wedding Dresses and Inspiration

February 4, 2008 | editorial team

Continuing in Friday’s theme of alternative wedding dresses, take a look at these gorgeous vintage wedding dresses from Posh Girl Vintage! So fun! Posh Girl Vintage is family owned and operated by ladies with a true love of vintage fashion, so their ever changing lineup is a treasure trove for fashionistas everywhere. Choosing a vintage dress is a great eco-friendly wedding fashion option, and is a personal favorite look of mine. It adds all kinds of personality to your wedding style that can be carried through to every aspect of your day, and just couldn’t be a more darling look! Here are some ideas for a simple and sweet vintage inspired wedding, built around the all important wedding dress…

– Choose a cake that’s inspired by the detailed fabric of your vintage dress, like this eyelet wedding cake from Martha Stewart.
– Set your tables with an eclectic mixture of vintage patterned china, like the Boho collection from Roseanna.
– Use vintage wallpaper to make DIY place cards, thanks you notes, and gifts for your wedding party, or buy these pretty vintage wallpaper pocket mirrors and notecards from Paperhill Studio’s Etsy shop.
– Choose vintage themed invitations and a matching wedding website, like these from Izzy Girl and Nearlyweds.com.
– Rent the get-away car of your dreams, like this vintage Rolls Royce from British Motor Coach. (Photo by La Vie Photography)
– Collect vintage vases from thrift stores and estate sales in a single color from your your wedding color palette, like these hydrangea-blue vases from Matthew Mead Style. Have your florist include them in your table top and reception floral design.

Real Weddings- Suzanne and Brent

February 1, 2008 | editorial team

Today’s Real Wedding is as sweet as can be. It was a cozy and charming summertime celebration, photographed by Cheri Pearl Photography and filled to the brim with personal touches. Suzanne and Brent wanted a small wedding, so they chose to include only their closest friends and family for their sunny garden ceremony at Parson’s Gardens and their waterfront reception at the classic Seattle restaurant, Palisade.

To make it their own, Suzanne and Brent were super creative in involving their loved ones and incorporated some of their favorite things. Their officiant was a good friend, each guest at the small ceremony signed their marriage certificate, the best man supplied their get-away car (a brown 1965 Triumph convertible- cool!), the invitations were a DIY project, and instead of a traditional wedding cake, they chose their favorite dessert, a coconut cream pie from the Dahlia Bakery.

Not wanting a traditional wedding, they also opted for alternative wedding fashion. Brent bought a rich chocolate brown suit from Nordstrom, and paired it with a brown, bronze and periwinkle striped tie. Suzanne found a stunning bronze silk dress with delicate periwinkle lace trim and inserts at Mario’s. Their style fit perfectly with their overall color palette, and they couldn’t have looked more glowing and in love! Get the full scoop on all of the professionals they worked with in our Real Weddings section.

Alternative wedding dresses can be a fabulous way to add your own style to your wedding, or to make your event a non-traditional affair. I love the rich colors and beautiful detailing of these long evening dresses for an dramatic night time wedding.

Canlis Restaurant’s Romantic Valentine’s Day Treat for the Troops

January 30, 2008 | editorial team

Canlis Restaurant is legendary in Seattle, and has a reputation for excellence the world over. It is still run by the warm and welcoming Canlis family after nearly 60 years, and is an absolute treat to experience! I’ve been lucky enough to attend a few events at Canlis (including photographing a chic wedding in their Penthouse– fab!) and have loved every minute of my time there. Today I love Canlis even more after learning about their special Valentine’s Day mission. They are partnering with the American Legion to auction off a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner in their amazing tree-top private room, the Cache, and using the money to fly a local area soldier home to their spouse for a well deserved Valentine’s Day dinner of their own. Wow! How great is that? Bidding starts at $2000 and is open until February 11th. Call 206-283-3313 or visit www.Canlis.com. Looks like love is in the Seattle air. Thanks Canlis!
