Spring 2009 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is well under way in New York, and as always there are all sorts of designs from the ready-to-wear runways that would be perfect for weddings. I can see many of these dresses worn by a bride at a casual wedding, at a rehearsal dinner, or out on the town on a fabulous honeymoon. Check out a few of my early faves from the great coverage on Style.com…
After writing about my recent obsession with the color grey, I heard from Junebug reader Rachel who is planning a huge (800 person!) October wedding with a gorgeous grey color palette, and she asked for a little help putting together an inspiration board. Rachel filled me in on some of her wedding day details including her dress, shoes, cake topper, wedding party fashions and theme of “Modern Nature”, and I had a ball filling in the rest. Rachel, it’s going to be beautiful! Read on to hear details about the upcoming wedding in her own words…
Fifth row: Silver and white table setting and orchid centerpiece by Preston Bailey Branch, orchid and river rock place card table by Michelle Rago LIttle bird wedding cake topper by Rain’s End on Etsy.com
Our wedding is in October at 6pm at a large convention center because we’re having 800 guests!!! We’re East African so it’s a huge cultural wedding. The theme is modern nature: birds on the invites, pair of bird cake toppers, branches in the centerpieces, feathers in my bouquet, etc. We want a modern look but with warmth. We just want the reception to be inviting, romantic and energizing! The men will wear black tuxes. The bridesmaids are wearing floor length silk dupioni dresses in mauve that have a black undertone so they look more purple than pink. Each dress (all 9 of them) will have a different neckline but all will be a fit-and-flare or mermaid shape. They’re also wearing pewter color accessories with filigree designs. I’m wearing a dress with a grey sash, a cathedral length ivory veil and sparkling metallic sandals. My earrings are long chandeliers with crystals and light brown stones. My bouquet will be made from white anemones, roses, lillies, crystals and white feathers. The stems will be wrapped with ivory ribbon and a wide band of rhinestones. My hair will be in a low, loosely pinned bun with a fabric and crystal flower.
If you haven’t already heard the exciting news, Vane from Brooklyn Bride has officially launched her online wedding ring pillow shop, and hello gorgeous! They are fantastic! She’s got fun fabric and ribbon selections and little hand stitched details that give them tons of personality. What I love most about these is that they would all look right at home on a couch, chair or bed after your wedding is over for a sweet reminder of your wedding day, every day. Head on over to the new Bklyn Pillow home to check them out for yourself, and enjoy!
