Romantic Vancouver Island Wedding

November 19, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Woodsy-Vancouver-Island-Wedding-12

From first look to final dance, Kareen and Russell’s romantic Vancouver Island wedding remained true to their vision and their relationship. The pair planned a wedding based in nature, utilizing the natural color palette of Strathcona Park Lodge. We love that their natural theme even included what they wore, dressing in only natural fibers. Photographer Jennifer Armstrong beautifully captured the story of Kareen and Russell’s day, incorporating the couple’s quiet intimacy, the casually romantic tone of the ceremony, and the fun personality of the pair and their loved ones.

The Couple: Kareen and Russell

The Wedding: Strathcona Park Lodge, Vancouver Island, British Columbia

The Inspiration:We both love the outdoors and feel a strong connection to nature. Our wedding was located at Strathcona Park Lodge, which in itself is the epitome of west coast living. Situated on Upper Campbell Lake on Vancouver Island it is rustic and lets nature’s beauty take center stage. I myself am very simple and love classic, clean design. Our wedding was primarily styled with touches of white, burlap, lace, and wood. I didn’t involve any colour and instead let nature’s rich greens and natural textures take precedence. Russell and I both have close ties to the marine world, and I myself am a photographer so we made sure we had touches of that amongst the décor. We wanted the day to not be too stuffy or pretentious and instead give off a sense of ease and comfort for our guests. As for fashion, we kept with a light palette and stuck to pieces that were made from natural fibres, and comfort was a must! I wore a custom silk dress and Russell a tailored cotton suit. My bridesmaids and maid of honor had free range as to what they wanted to dress in and it wasn’t until the day of I saw it all come together! We kept the groomsmen and best man’s outfits comfortable and classic. All together it came together beautifully and felt it suited all of our tastes!

The Moments: “Russell and I decided to do a “first look” before the ceremony and had arranged to meet in the forest. We are both private people and I thought the first time we saw one another is something to be shared intimately. It was the best choice we could have made. Not only did it make walking down the aisle and saying our vows a breeze but it gave us a moment to truly soak in the moment. Nothing will ever take away the memory of seeing my fiancé shed a tear and us both being completely consumed by how much love we have for one another and how momentous that day meant to us both.

Mystic Beach Styled Shoot

November 18, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Dramatic-Beach-Wedding-Photos-4

We’re absolutely captivated by the creative high-fashion styling of this mystic beach styled shoot. Photographed by Paula O’Hara, the waterfront destination is a tremendous backdrop for the ethereal tone of the shoot. Producer, Art Director and Stylist Grace & Saviour was inspired by the passion of the free spirit, which was captured flawlessly by Paula O’Hara. Here’s what Grace & Saviour had to say about the essence of the shoot:

Collaborating with Paula on a separate project, we both realized we were individually drawn to the feel and the lyrics of this song:

‘Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic’

‘And I want to rock your gypsy soul’
-Van Morrison

We wanted to create a shoot that stripped the song bare, that looked at the feeling of longing, and of the wild, great elements of the sea and the sky. The shoot was dreamed up to allow our team to play with the wild, Irish gypsy spirit, passionate and romantic, on the rugged and unpredictable Donegal coastline. Nothing was set in stone, dresses, hair styles, floral design, were all selected to work with the elements, rather than independent of them. We let ourselves to, be a little free and gypsy like, so that on the day we could enjoy the drifting sands and whipping winds, forage for beach grasses and rock flowers and let Paula and her camera record the results.

Sunset Wedding at Smith Rock State Park, Oregon

November 18, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Intimate-Oregon-Wedding-15

We just can’t say no to a beautiful wedding with amazing views. Jamie and Kyle’s sunset wedding at Smith Rock State Park overlooks the grand rocky mountains. The dreamlike sunset beautifully accented the couple as they exchanged their vows in front of their closest loved ones. Jamie’s lush, loose bouquet of dark earthy tones created by Passion Flower is absolutely enchanting, and we love that it calls back to her soft floral crown. Exceptional photographer Nakalan McKay was present to capture every captivating moment and provide us with such immense beauty.

The Couple: Jamie and Kyle

The Wedding: Smith Rock State Park, Terrebone, Oregon

The Inspiration:When we gave thought to the style of our wedding, we focused on keeping it simple and using nature’s beauty to our full advantage. We stayed very true to ourselves when choosing what to wear. We both appreciate a timeless and classic look, but it was in the smaller details like my shoes, the flower crown and Kyle‘s boutonniere where I added fun color and detail to fit the more non-traditional side of our personalities.

The Moments:My favorite moment was at the beginning of our ceremony when our officiant asked us to take a second and look around, and to realize that THIS was our wedding day. It was a very special and significant moment that stands out to me because I was able to look at each guests’ face and truly appreciate my beautiful surroundings. It helped me to fully realize and appreciate where I was and why I was there. It’s a moment I’ll always remember and that I’m so grateful to have.

The Couple Recommends:Nakalan McKay Photography- I can’t sing enough praises about Nakalan and her work. She started out as an acquaintance and ended up being like family to us. She is professional, organized, and extremely comfortable to work with. She made our vision for our photos a reality and we are so so happy with the end product. Nakalan blended right in and I hardly noticed her even taking the pictures. I can’t recommend her enough!

Foxtail Bakeshop- Working with Nickol was so delightful! She made us feel so comfortable at our cake tasting, we left feeling like we had known her for years. I never doubted for a second that Nickol wouldn’t deliver anything less than her best. She made our cakes unique to what we wanted and each cake turned out delicious and absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Nickol was very professional and had great communication throughout the entire process. Best desserts in Oregon!
