The temperatures may be dropping here in the States, but this oceanside Bali wedding is heating things up on our blog. Anna and Andrew planned an elegant beach wedding in Bali and with the help of an impeccable team of wedding professionals, they were freed from the stress of planning a destination wedding from across the world. Libby Doherty coordinated and designed the chic oceanside event, and every detail was beautifully captured by expert Bali photographer Imaj Gallery. From colorful, loose bouquets to epic oceanside portraits, these images are full of life and personality.
The Couple: Anna and Andrew
The Wedding: The Point, Lembongan Island, Bali
The Inspiration: “Our theme was inspired by Bali and essentially reflective of the bright and cheerful traditional Indonesian weddings while also embracing the beauty of the natural elements around us. The gold used throughout out invitations and styling from our engagement through to our wedding celebrations was reminiscent of the sunset hitting the water, a spectacular daily scene in Bali. This theme was considered and kept consistent from gold dipped feathers accompanying our engagement invitations, the gold paper of our wedding invitations and touches of gold throughout our reception, as well as other elements throughout the planning. I chose large, colourful bouquets for my bridesmaids and myself full of roses, hydrangeas and lavender with cascading ivy, some sprays of which were painted gold. The same flowers were used generously throughout our reception, we also had a fairy light canopy and lots candles for ambience. As we had used gold throughout our theming we had gold sequined table cloths and runners, flowers displayed in gold rimmed terracotta pots and gold dipped feathers, which reference back to our engagement invitations. For my dress, I wanted something that shimmered like the sunlight reflecting off the ocean as we were having the ceremony on a cliff top overlooking the ocean.
Our ceremony was held at boutique resort ‘The Point’ which rests on a cliff top overlooking the ocean and back to the mainland of Bali. It was held under a traditional bale, a pavilion with a thatched roof, surrounded by grass and gardens. We decorated the bale with jasmine flowers and white drapery, 2 simple white floral arrangements stood at the end of the aisle. We didn’t need or want much decoration at the ceremony site as the outlook was beautiful enough.”
The Moments:
Anna: “There are too many to pick one! Waiting with my dad before he walked me down the aisle, it was lovely to have a few moments of quiet with him before ceremony. I think Dad was more nervous than I was! The other would be the second before I saw Andrew, the butterflies of excitement started and then seeing him waiting there was just magical.”
Andrew: “The moment I caught a glimpse of Anna walking down the aisle. I was holding it together pretty well until then, I thought I would get away without shedding a tear but she simply took my breath away.”
The Couple Recommends: “It is very easy for destination wedding planning to morph into a logistical nightmare, the easiest way to avoid this it to employ a local wedding planner. While there is an added cost associated to this, we found that having someone who spoke the language, had connections to local suppliers and could make regular trips to the venue to and face-to-face meetings for us made all the difference. Having someone take control of the logistical coordination on the day was also indescribably helpful – being able to relax and not have to worry about a single thing other than getting dressed and getting down the aisle made our day so much more enjoyable.”
