This Vintage Irish Wedding at The Millhouse Speaks to the Quirky Bride in All of Us

February 22, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

Millhouse-Moat-Hill-Wedding-0075

Music, books, and vintage details were carefully strung throughout Lara and Mark’s Irish wedding at The Millhouse, each element perfectly reflecting them as a couple. Mark crafted mass booklets to look like Penguin Books, while Lara’s Claire Pettibone gown paired effortlessly with her ivory glasses and naturally curled hair. The foliage-filled marquee from LPM Bohemia was positively romantic as the newlyweds twirled and embraced to Love Affair’s Everlasting Love and Moat Hill Photography captured their larger-than-life love.

We used personalised Penguin Books for our mass booklets which were hand written by Mark in their entirety. All of our wedding invitations were individual reclaimed books. We included 6 bridesmaids and 6 groomsmen to involve our closest friends.

I loved my Claire Pettibone wedding dress. I loved the colours in it and it was so light and easy to wear. I matched my dress with Ivory glasses (as I’ve always worn glasses) and neutral make up. Hair was left natural in curls. My shoes were personalised with the date and ‘Mrs Kelly’ on the sole.

Our colours we mainly pink and green. The wedding dress fitted in with both of these as did the cherry blossom and leaf table centres, along with the bridesmaids white tops and mint skirts.

The most important thing to us was having our day reflecting ourselves. We are both into the small details and spent months collecting little items which meant something to us in order to design our day. Music was a big theme within our wedding and we wanted to reflect that throughout. We also had a book theme for our decor.

Navy Blue Phoenix Wedding Among the Cacti

February 21, 2016 | editorial team

Paulo Coelho said that “the simple things are also the most extraordinary things,” and that was certainly the case at Marissa and Tim’s Phoenix wedding. The couple wanted their nuptials to be whimsical, wholesome, and fun for their family and friends. They tailored the ceremony and reception to include elements that they, both being writers, would enjoy. Tim’s college screenwriting professor officiated their sweet ceremony, including custom opening remarks and readings from Tim and Marissa’s favorite authors.

I liked that my dress was romantic, but also had a bit of an earthy vibe to it. The straps and tulle train are I think what sold me. Most of all, I loved how comfortable it was and how the dress simply felt like me. I kept my accessories pretty minimal – just a headpiece that I fell in love with and two pieces of jewelry that have a lot of meaning to me.

Our photographer, Monica, was amazing to work with. She made everything so easy! She gave some direction, but mostly just let the day unfurl and beautifully captured the moments and emotion that naturally occurred. We really could not have asked for a better photographer.

We let our entire wedding party choose their own dresses, suits, etc – we just gave them a length and color. I always liked the idea of letting the bridal party express themselves through their outfits and find something they feel great and can be comfortable in. I think it makes everything more interesting.

Reciting our vows was literally the best moment of my life. We left our hearts on those pages we recited to one another. Seeing my groom tear up during the vows was a moment I will always remember. There was just so much emotion, and it made it even more special that our closest friends and family members were there to share the experience with us.

When planning the wedding, try to focus on one thing at a time and know that more choices does not always make choosing any easier – your wedding will turn out beautiful no matter what you ultimately choose! DIY what you can, but also recognize the benefit of paying a little more and not having to worry. It’s a balance!

We wanted our wedding to be a reflection of us, and we wanted to create an atmosphere that would be memorable for our guests – we put a lot of thought into the location, food, and music for that reason. Above all, we wanted to have fun!

Romantic Indian Wedding at Tivoli Palacio de Seteais

February 21, 2016 | editorial team

Gloria Aguiam fotografas

Niyomi and Aditya had family and friends from Canada, Europe, and India all coming to their wedding, so to have everyone meet in the middle, they settled on the Tivoli Palacio de Seteais in Sintra, Portugal for their nuptials. The couple celebrated a traditional Indian celebration followed by a Western wedding with a royal blue and white color theme, and they said that the team at Gloria Aguiam Photography had endless amounts of patience and did a wonderful job at making sure they were comfortable all day long.

When we heard of Sintra, which is a a cute historical place not too far away from Lisbon with castles, palaces, and nature all around, we knew immediately that this is where we would tie the knot.

The Indian ceremony was everything we could have hoped for: a beautiful backdrop, all our loved ones united, and most importantly our Spiritual Guru’s presence.

After the wedding is done, there is a ritual known as “vidai” – where the girl’s parents give their daughter away to her new family. This was a very emotional moment, and we saw everyone in tears of happiness.

It was a lot of fun working with the team at Gloria Aguiam Photography. We are usually not the kind of couple that poses around for photos, but they made us feel very comfortable and had a lot of patience, and the shots turned out wonderful.
