Wild and Beautiful Swedish Wedding

February 20, 2016 | editorial team

Bröllop Karin Lundin

Linn and Olle wanted their Swedish wedding to be “wild and beautiful,” following a popular Swedish saying. They also wanted their wedding day to be a personalized celebration of love, so they held the reception at Kvillinge Kyrka, the church that Olle attended as a child. Their friends and family came together to help with the planning and details of the wedding, from the decorations to the flowers and cake. The result was a sweet and simple wedding that truly was wild and beautiful, just as Linn and Olle had hoped.

Olle’s classic dark blue suit with perfect fit. He didn’t feel like wearing a tie or a bow tie; he wanted something different. So instead he wore a silver chain and an old brooch from my mother’s grandmother.

I was convinced I would never find a wedding dress, but the one I ended up with was actually one of the first I tried on. I love how it has a quite simple silhouette but is covered in sequins and stones. Together with the wild bouquet, floral crown, and a suede jacket, I felt like myself.

The most important thing for us was for the guests to be able to recognize us as a couple in love every moment of the day. We didn’t want a fancy wedding; we wanted a day full of love, warmth, and natural beauty.

There were a lot of things we chose to do ourselves, mostly because it was fun but also to spend a little less. My friend and I painted and designed the invitations and graphics together. We had friends playing the music. My dad, grandmother, and uncle made the cake. My friend Josefin, who is a floral designer, helped out a lot with the flowers.

We made most of the decorations from greens we found in the forest and gardens of our families. We hung green garlands on the walls with light bulbs, and the tables had candle holders in brass and beautiful dark purple figs.

We were blown away by the incredible speeches by our families during the dinner. Overall it was such an amazing October day. The sun was shining and the leaves were in the process of changing colors.

Boho Cabin Wedding at Bodega Ridge

February 20, 2016 | editorial team

When Morgan and Patrick were planning their wedding, they wanted a celebration that matched their easy-going personalities. Bodega Ridge, nestled right off the coast of British Columbia, allowed them to have the intimate, outdoor ceremony that they had been hoping for. The wedding, much like the couple,  held a relaxed vibe throughout the weekend, and Morgan and Patrick were able to reconnect with their close family and friends.

It’s too hard to pick just one favorite moment! Definitely seeing each other for the first time that day – for our “First Look” – and then the rush we both felt when the ceremony started, were two of the best.

I knew I wanted beading on my dress, so when I found mine, it was just perfect! A simple silhouette, but the beadwork and detail made it so special. I wanted to feel like myself on the wedding day, so I did my own hair and makeup. I completed the look with a pearl headpiece made by my mom.

The bridesmaids were able to choose their own dresses – I just asked for them to be floral, flowy, and long – and I couldn’t have been happier with how they all fit together! They just went so well with the outdoor, relaxed vibe of the day.

We’re both really easy-going, and so we wanted the whole wedding to reflect our personalities, and maintain that relaxed vibe. Galiano Island, and Bodega Ridge, were just the perfect fit – ocean, forest, sunshine.

We gave bottles of Morgan‘s mom’s handmade Whiskey-infused Canadian maple syrup. We thought the syrup would go with the whole “rustic, camp/cabin vibe”, plus it’s just so delicious, we knew everyone would love it.

No matter how stressed and chaotic things may get before the wedding, none of it will matter when it’s just the two of you standing together on your day.

Stylish Hawaiian Wedding at White Orchid Beach House

February 19, 2016 | editorial team

Binding their hands together in traditional Celtic fashion, Genevieve and Tim literally tied the knot at White Orchid Beach House in Maui, Hawaii. Because they wanted the ceremony and reception to honor both Irish and Hawaiian wedding traditions, Genevieve and Tim also exchanged leis as a symbol of their never-ending love and commitment to each other. Anna Kim Photography captured all the beautiful moments of this Hawaiian wedding.

The White Orchid Beach house had everything we envisioned for our big day. The perfect beach front property location with waves crashing along the shore and gorgeous palm trees, was intimate but also gave us enough space to accommodate our 50 guests for the ceremony and reception.

A memorable moment was standing in front of my husband at the altar. He was facing the sun setting over the ocean and I remember thinking how beautiful his green eyes looked and how lucky I was.

We included different Irish wedding traditions like the hand fasting, an Irish wedding blessing, and the lavender toss. We also incorporated Hawaiian wedding traditions into the dialogue of the ceremony as well as the exchanging of the leis.

Tim has Irish ancestry and went to the University of Notre Dame for graduate school. I chose a beautiful Irish Wedding Inspiration colour palette inspired by the magical colours that paint the gorgeous Irish landscape: forest green, sage green, grays, lavender blues, blush, and cream tones.

We ordered custom leather imprinted luggage tags that we used as wedding favors and as escort cards. We thought it was a great idea to thank everyone who had traveled from afar to be with us to celebrate!

Hosting the wedding in Hawaii, I really wanted to integrate elements that represented and honored the Hawaiian culture and its historical traditions.

Every wedding is different, and yours will be unique and perfect in its own way. Things will go right and some things may go wrong, but it is those parts that you’ll remember forever. Planning a wedding it not about making every single detail perfect, but rather just representing you and reflecting your love.
