Blair and Emmanuel’s colorful wedding in Louisiana will have you thinking that nothing beats a backyard wedding. The couple enlisted the help of their family and friends to turn Blair’s parents’ home into an artsy and fun backyard celebration. They kept the atmosphere relaxed and playful for their guests, choosing a a lawn game theme. They DIYed all of the decorations and signs, a life-size Jenga game, a bottle cap checkers game, a photo booth frame wall, and so many other crafts and details. Though they loved every minute of their reception, they also wanted to remain focused on the sacrament of Holy Matrimony, and Jen Menard Photography was in attendence to snap a picture of the couple saying “I do” to one another.

What was most important for us when planning our wedding was being able, the day of, to focus on the Sacrament of Matrimony! We also wanted our wedding to be personalized and for the atmosphere to be relaxed, intimate, and fun! These different goals shaped virtually all of our planning!

For my processional song I asked our pianist to learn and play a song my husband wrote many years ago. It was a very special moment in our ceremony and I loved surprising him with it!

My sister and brother-in-law made a 20-foot-long garland of felt flowers and all of our signs, and my brother made amazing wooden crates from recycled pallet wood. We designed our invitations, programs, and maps. We made, with our families’ help, a life-sized Jenga game, a bottle cap Checkers game, a full size tee-pee, lace bunting flags, pew markers, a tree stump cake stand, as well as so many other crafts and details!

We wanted the day to be personal, artsy, and fun! We added personal touches by making and hand picking our decorations and we decided to have a lawn game theme for our reception to create a fun and relaxed atmosphere for all our guests!

Rainy Rustic Catskills Wedding at Handsome Hollow

April 16, 2016 | editorial team

Rainy-Rustic-Catskills-Wedding-Handsome-Hollow-15

A rainy day at the Handsome Hollow couldn’t dampen Marianne and Seth’s wedding spirits. Instead, they grabbed some umbrellas and posed for some absolutely adorable couple portraits taken by Monika Photography. The couple even said that the stormy weather and rain added more romance to their special day, because their guests got to cozy up under blankets during the ceremony. Marianne and Seth poured their hearts and creativity into their wedding so their closest family and friends would be able to feel how much they love them. Their hard work certainly paid off, because their wedding day was filled with more than enough love to last a lifetime.

Marianne and Seth

We wanted our wedding day to not only be a celebration of our love and the first day that we officially become a family, we also wanted our guests – only close family members and friends – to feel how much we love them.

Our officiant was a close family member whom we wholeheartedly trust so we let him keep the script a surprise and it was wonderful! He had us going on an emotional roller coaster – laughing and crying nonstop – and the best part is that everyone felt SOMETHING. We were very moved.

We love whiskey so we decided to gift our guests apple pie and pumpkin spice infused bourbons that we had infused, bottled, and labeled ourselves. For those who didn’t or couldn’t drink, we gifted fresh apple cider.

I’m Filipino and my (now) husband is from Vermont so we tried to incorporate some of those elements into our wedding. We had a Filipino-inspired menu but for dessert, opted for a spread consisting of seasonal pies and cider donuts and as a pre-meal treat for our guests, placed an Orton Brothers Cookie Button on each diner’s plate.

Winter Mountain Elopement in Banff National Park

April 15, 2016 | editorial team

Winter-Mountain-Elopement-Banff-National-Park-24

It’s no surprise that the Canadian Rockies have become a popular place to elope, having breathtaking views of snow capped mountains and an overlook of the world far below. Photographer Darren Roberts styled a winter mountain elopement shoot in Banff National Park so brides could picture having their own weddings there. Despite the obvious cold and windy weather the couple faced on the top of the mountain, the beautiful peach, ivory, and sage bouquet arranged by Flowers By Janie and beaded, vintage-inspired Anna Campbell gown made for some warm and tender photos.
