This Haiku Mill Wedding in Maui is the Definition of Enchanting

Samantha and Tony’s Haiku Mill wedding is nothing short of a tropical fairy tale. With strings of white petals hanging from above, an abundance of greenery, and plenty of twinkle lights, enchanting really is an understatement for the romantic scene. They say that your wedding day is all a blur, but Samantha and Tony were sure to slow down and enjoy the moments during dinner where they witnessed all their friends and family in one beautiful place.

The Couple:

Samantha and Tony

The Wedding:

Haiku Mill, Maui, Hawaii

I knew I wanted to wear something more fitted and an overall classic silhouette. I have had people tell me since that my dress and hair reminded them of Carolyn Kennedy when she married JFK — such a complement! I was adamant about not looking to done up. For one, I don’t wear a lot of makeup, and I wanted my hair to just be simple, not too fussy, even a little undone looking; it is Maui after all! I first saw my dress in a magazine and something just told me it was the one! I tried on many others but I especially loved the little details of my dress that set it apart from others of similar cuts. The silk tulle bow and petal train were my favorite details, and the silk crepe bodice was really flattering on.

Grey accents were a natural choice as it was a soft, pretty complement to the neutral florals we chose and could be layered in different shades and still not take away from anything. It’s what we picked for our invitation suite and it just snowballed from there. The shade we picked for the bridesmaids dresses was complementary on all skin tones and it was there that we built the grey palette for the day, coordinating the dress swatch with table linens and even the silk ribbon on my bouquet.

There was a moment that particularly stands out as dinner was being served that we had a quiet moment together and were able to just look out at all of our guests from our sweetheart table. There’s several pictures that show our view from dinner and we can think back and still see it all happening before us. From the music and the chatter of everyone eating and enjoying and knowing they were there for us was so special. There’s something about Haiku Mill at night that is pure magic. You can’t describe it but its so dreamy at under the clear tent, everyone lit by candlelight, everything just glows — pure bliss.

Vintage Hudson Valley Wedding Inspired By Wes Anderson

April 3, 2016 | editorial team

Vintage-Hudson-Valley-Wedding-Inspired-Wes-Anderson-29

Marina and Matt’s Hudson Valley wedding was like a scene straight out of a Wes Anderson movie, and they wouldn’t have had it any other way! Lily Szabo Photography captured every storybook moment of the vintage affair, including the tender first look moment and every single Wes Anderson detail the couple included in their big day. The couple also DIYed their own stationary, programs, table centerpieces, and even a photobooth. Sending their friends and family off with a final Wes Anderson inspired item, they gave each of their guests wooden bookmarks made into the shape of vintage keys, because keys represent love and friendship in The Grand Budapest Hotel.

The Couple:

Marina and Matt

The Wedding:

Matt’s amazing gift that he gave to me before our first look was a beautiful necklace from Vrai & Oro. It was tiny enough for me to be able to wear with my illusion neckline dress.

I fell in love with my Ramona Keveza dress the second I saw it in a bridal magazine. Then I couldn’t take it off once I tried it on in Kleinfeld. I couldn’t stop staring at the illusion neckline with the beautiful flower petals. I loved the the lace on the dress from head to toe, and the slight peach tone under the lace. The fitted gown made me feel old Hollywood romantic, sexy and like a million bucks!

Our great friend Heather who married us snuck in a few sweet surprises in her speech that she didn’t share before hand. After planning every step of the day, it was so nice to hear something personal that we didn’t know was coming!

We are big dorks for Wes Anderson movies so we tried to incorporate a handful of details from his movies such as using vintage suitcases, compass seating chart, arrow table numbers, postcard guestbook etc. Other than that, we wanted to day to feel romantic, vintage, glam, light and fun.

Matt is an illustrator and graphic artist so we were lucky enough to be able to design all of our stationary (e.g. save the dates/ wedding invitations/menus). We made our own program fans, added tassels to our wedding favors, painted table numbers, and made our own photobooth.

Quirky Classy Los Angeles Wedding at The Fig House

April 3, 2016 | editorial team

Quirky-Classy-Los-Angeles-Wedding-Fig-House-9

Located between downtown Los Angeles and Pasadena, The Fig House combines lush outdoor landscaping and modern glamour. It’s no wonder, then, that Ellen and Colin fell in love with the location and decided to get married there. They chose their wedding colors organically, settling in on a navy, green, and gold color palette, and later making the entire wedding dinosaur themed. Let’s Frolic Together captured every sweet and quirky moment from the couple’s big day, including a private “tush-grab” first look and later stuffing each other’s faces with pie.

Ellen and Colin

I have always loved vintage clothes, so I wanted something with a more vintage look, which BHLDN was able to provide at more affordable price. I wanted something comfortable and light, and this dress checked off those off my list. I wanted to make sure I could dance and be comfortable all night. I wore my dad’s wedding ring as a necklace. The shoes were something I found that were affordable and comfortable.

The most memorable part of the day for us was the first look before the ceremony, which brought us to tears. We didn’t think we would be so emotional after seven years, but we had feels on feels.

One of my best friends had seen the Fig House featured on one of her favorite blogs, and she forwarded it to me telling me that it seemed like my style. It’s 10-15 minutes from where we live, so we went and checked it out, and it was love at first sight.

Another memorable part of the day was walking down the aisle with my brother and being overcome with emotion as we missed, remembered, and paid respects to our dad. I also loved hearing our vows for the first time (we gave each other zero clues or hints) and bursting into laughter and tears with each other and with all our loved ones.

The Fig House is already so stylish with it’s mid-century modern so we didn’t need to add all that much. We had chosen to do gold dino centerpieces, and I told my good friend about them. She had suggested that we walk down to the Jurassic Park theme song, and we loved it. It ended up turning into a dino themed wedding. We wanted a modern, intimate feel.

We gave out potted succulents as favors. I wanted everything to have purpose, to be re-purposed, or to be something I wouldn’t mind having extras of. The succulents were name card/table number holders, were on the table as extra greenery, and then favors. We didn’t have any extras, which was great!
