Round Knob Lodge is just a short drive out from Ashville, and it comes complete with a renovated historic building sitting on 20 luscious acres of land covered with quaint streams and ponds. It was the perfect place for Julie and Matthew to have their fall wedding; it allowed them to have the warm and cozy wedding in the mountains that they had been planning for. Their close friend officiated the ceremony – he wrote the entire thing from top to bottom, making sure to include philosophy, spirituality, and exactly what made Julie and Matthew fall in love. Although Hurricane Joaquin dampened Julie and Matthew’s vision of an outdoor wedding, the couple’s quaint indoor wedding turned out better than they could’ve ever expected, and photographers We Are The Hoffmans captured every bit of the unplanned magic.

I found Lace Marry, a dressmaker on Etsy who made custom gowns that were very affordable. I sent her the pictures of the dresses and she made a beautiful gown that incorporated what I loved about both dresses. Flora designed the floral crown and boutonnieres with locally grown, in-season flowers.
The grounds were beautiful, it was 3 miles from a waterfall that we hiked to on one of our first dates, and it had enough rooms that everyone could stay. It was also not a wedding “venue” so we paid a lot less for our 3-day stay than we would have spent on a venue for 6 hours.
Well, Hurricane Joaquin was probably the biggest surprise. We’d planned an outdoor ceremony beside the lake, but with over a foot of rain falling on that weekend, we had to figure out how to fit everyone inside the house for the ceremony and the reception. Everyone worked together and it turned out beautifully.
