Steph and John originally had a vision of a very small intimate wedding, but they quickly realized that wasn’t in the cards. They still thought it was important for their wedding to feel personal, so they got married at Front & Palmer, an industrial loft a few blocks from their home in Philadelphia. The rest of their vendors were also close friends who lived close to home. I wanted my bridesmaids to choose dresses that were flattering and required little alternation, especially since two of them were pregnant. I found exactly what I was looking for on Etsy. John and the groomsman rented suits from theblacktux.com who we highly recommend for modern options. I was so lucky to know a talented seamstress who offered to custom make my dress.
We had a vision of a very small intimate wedding, but quickly realized that wasn’t in the cards. So when our small intimate wedding grew it was really important that it still felt personal. We chose to get married at a venue a few blocks from our home and most of our vendors were close friends or lived in our neighborhood. It was really important that we didn’t plan an elaborate show, that our guest felt they were part of a really important moment.
John was raised Catholic and my family is Jewish, but neither of us are religious. We didn’t want a ceremony that felt unrepresentative of who we are, yet we wanted to pay respect of our heritage. My cousin was ordained and led a beautifully personal ceremony under a huppah John and his brother built. Our close friend, Joe played guitar as we walked down the aisle to John‘s mom’s favorite Fleetwood Mac song and my father’s favorite Beatles song.
Neither of us is comfortable in front of a camera and pretty much anticipated have some awkwardly posed memories. Then we met The Rivera’s and it was immediately clear if anyone could sherpa us up the treacherous wedding photo mountain it was them. Dani + Wil genuinely cared about making sure we felt comfortable and candid and the photos were truly representative of how at ease we felt in their lens.
My brother told us that a wedding may be the only time in our lives other than a funeral when all of our favorite people, people who for any other reason may never have crossed paths, would be in the same room. I don’t think we’ll ever forget how amazing it was to physically see our lives merge so seamlessly.
