This Romanian Wedding Has All the Autumn Decor Inspiration You Need

Between dozens of sliced figs, a warm berry and sage color palette, and decadent textures, Laura and Dan’s wedding is full of our favorite autumn décor inspiration! The Romanian couple who currently lives in London decided to go back to their roots and have their rustic wedding in Romania’s incredibly romantic countryside. We love how Laura’s off-the-shoulder custom lace gown from Otilia Brailoiu completes her timelessly modern bridal look! Green Antlers Photography captured this autumnal Romanian wedding with seriously stunning emotion and attention to detail.

Laura & Dan

The Wedding:

The Wedding House, Giurgiu, Romania

In the beginning we weren’t very sure about the location of our future wedding. We’re both from Romania (we come from different areas) and we both live in London. Of course we had friends in London, but we’ve realized that, because most of our friends and family are back in Romania, and because we’re both still attached to our home country, we should have it there. I know it’s a bit difficult to organize things ‘from a distance’ but I quickly discovered this new wedding venue in the country side and we both loved it.

Living in a busy, modern city like London, where you can hardly find the time to breathe some fresh air, we were willing to go back to our origins and have a nice quiet wedding, surrounded by nature. The host/landlady/organizer was very nice and helpful to us; she was very friendly and reliable. We booked the place before even seeing it – there was a good feeling about it.

After trying on almost 50 wedding dresses, in different boutiques around London, and not liking any of them, I’ve started thinking about having my dress custom made. Even with a special delivery, the dress would have arrived in about 5 (or 6) months, which in our case it was a bit impossible (we only had 3 months to organize it). Meanwhile, I discovered Otilia Brailoiu and her wonderful gowns. She was also recommended to me by other wedding suppliers. She’s an ex-model, new designer and her work has been highly appreciated internationally. My dress was ready in less than 2 months. Fortunately, her studio is based in my hometown, so I’ve managed to fly for a couple of times to take the measurement and for my first fitting. It was quite exciting choosing the fabric and thinking about the design together.

I would say that, first of all we wanted to have a wedding according to our own style – something that would represent us and would make us feel comfortable. We wanted to be close to our family and friends and have a laid-back wedding.

this-romanian-wedding-has-all-the-autumn-decor-inspiration-you-need-12

Because we knew it’s impossible to please everybody at a wedding, we’ve decided to style it after our own taste – natural, organic, woody, a bit rustic, with vintage influences. We didn’t have the traditional food menu and we didn’t want anything fancy, like any chair sashes. Also we didn’t have the traditional “wedding party” – no bridesmaids, no groomsmen, no ushers, but we did have wonderful people around us who have helped a lot. We are both Christians so we had a more traditional ceremony.

Walking down the aisle was without a doubt the most memorable part of our day. It was such a beautiful, memorable moment. We’ve decided not to see each other on the day, so we met at the altar. The string quartet was playing “Fix You” by Coldplay, one of our favourite songs; it was very emotional.

this-romanian-wedding-has-all-the-autumn-decor-inspiration-you-need-18

Everybody dreams about their wedding day and they want everything to be perfect. However, it doesn’t always goes according to the plan. An unexpected, not pleasant surprise, was the fact that I’ve started to feel unwell during the ceremony. A sick bride on her wedding day – sounds like a nightmare. I feel really grateful for everyone who supported me, especially my husband. After a bit of rest and a few glasses of cold lemon-water I started feeling well again, but unfortunately we had to shorten the ceremony and all the guests got really confused.

this-romanian-wedding-has-all-the-autumn-decor-inspiration-you-need-20

Our photographers from Green Antlers Photography are such a lovely, creative couple. They are very talented – I would highly recommend them to anybody who would like to have the best wedding photos. They seem to have a sixth sense of capturing powerful emotions, wonderful moments and beautiful details. We are very blessed to have them as friends as well.

Your wedding day is meant to be ‘the most important and beautiful day of your life’, but in the end, it’s just a ‘day’. Don’t waste months or years organizing it, as it can be really consuming. Enjoy it! Leave the stress behind and celebrate your love for each other. I believe it’s more important to prepare for you marriage, which is supposed to last for a life time, rather than just for one day. The flowers will die, and the dress might not fit anymore one day, but your left with the most wonderful thing of them all – love. You can’t control everything so, enjoy every second of it, even if it’s not as perfect as you were planning it to be.

For the ceremony and also for the reception, we had a string quartet playing various songs. As mentioned, “Coldplay – Fix You” was our favourite. We also had a playlist for breaks. I distinctly remember “Bear’s Den – Agape.”

These Cali Newlyweds Made a Pit Stop at In-N-Out Before Their Reception

September 3, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

these-utah-newlyweds-made-a-pit-stop-at-in-n-out-before-their-reception-15

The In-N-Out Burger chain is known for its delicious hamburgers, perfectly crispy fries (animal style, of course), and after Brittany and Brett’s special day, even weddings! Brittany and Brett wanted extra time to share with their friends before their big wedding reception, so they took their bridal party to In-N-Out for a casual lunch after a private Latter-Day Saints ceremony. We love the quirky retro vibes that In-N-Out adds to this stylish couple’s emerald and maroon inspired wedding! Alex Steele Photography captured every moment of this couple’s amazingly creative wedding, including beautiful couple portraits and a very romantic bridal look.

The Couple:

Brittany and Brett

The Wedding:

Newport Beach LDS Temple & Coto Valley Country Club, Newport Beach, California

My ring was a family heirloom from my grandmother who got in on her trip in Amsterdam. The simple gold band holds the settings of an emerald surrounded by diamonds. The emerald is Brett’s birthstone and once he fell in love with a picture of a maroon suit we had our wedding colors emerald and maroon.

Since we grew up in the same town and have so many people involved in our relationship we wanted as many people involved in our wedding too. Our wedding was a ‘family and friend affair’. My sister-in-law Alia Steele took our engagement photos; while I took on the task of designing the simple white invitation with black block letters. My other sister-in-law Jen Steele and family friend Miranda Goings were the geniuses behind the flowers at my wedding and took my answer of “uhhh… i want a big bouquet?” and turned it into a masterpiece.  My bouquet was made up greenery and maroon flowers contrasting against my ivory dress; while the white bouquets contrasted them against the handmade maroon bridesmaids dresses.

these-utah-newlyweds-made-a-pit-stop-at-in-n-out-before-their-reception-19

The decorations of the aspen trees were cut from the backyard of my family’s cabin in Utah.  As guests walked into the venue the aspen logs with candles led the way to a beautiful flowered-cover arch where Brett and I met our guests.

these-utah-newlyweds-made-a-pit-stop-at-in-n-out-before-their-reception-26

In-N-Out was one of my favorite parts of my wedding day. We got the idea from my older brother who did it on their wedding day, but they invited family and I just wanted it to be the bridal party. This was a really good opportunity to give special time and attention to the bridal party because the rest of the night was a blur of handshakes and introductions of my parent’s friends. It was so fun to hangout with my friends and the pictures turned out amazing. These pictures were actually some of my favorites.

these-utah-newlyweds-made-a-pit-stop-at-in-n-out-before-their-reception-16

We got a round of applause from the restaurant as my husband and I walked in. The bridal party was very patient to wait, even after getting their food, to take pictures in front of the restaurant. I loved the contrast of our fancy clothes with the candid pictures of us eating fast food. My husband and I are very usually very causal, despite our pretty formal wedding, it was fun playing dress up and having a fun lunch with our friends.

Lastly, the Coto Valley Country Club is a venue owned by our family friend Kenny Hrabik.  The venue was the perfect combination of rustic and chic that went well with the aspen logs, pallet wall, candles and flowers.  Every part of our wedding was dripping with personalized touches. Our wedding meant so much more because we knew that our close friends and family had helped made our wedding beautiful and personalized.

This Maine Barn Wedding Serves Up Muted Colors and a Bit of Edge

September 3, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

this-maine-barn-wedding-serves-up-muted-colors-and-a-bit-of-edge-13

Lauren and Joe’s Maine barn wedding had effortlessly pretty vibes and killer wedding party style! Lauren’s delicate lace top gown from Leanne Marshall and the maid of honor’s muted coral jumpsuit were perfect reflections of the wedding’s overall vibes: relaxed and feminine with a bit of edge. We love how Jamie Mercurio Photography captured the couple’s event, including some seriously beautiful detail shots in their light and airy reception barn!

The Couple:

Lauren and Joe

The Wedding:

Maine Wedding Barn & Event Center at Farview Farm, Minot, Maine

this-maine-barn-wedding-serves-up-muted-colors-and-a-bit-of-edge-6

I look so much younger than I am, and was really nervous about looking like a child bride at my wedding! While dress shopping, I tried on a lot of mermaid gowns, thinking they’d make me look older and more sophisticated. They were gorgeous, but right before buying one, I backed out, knowing my heart just wasn’t in it. Then I tried on this Leanne Marshall dress (the exact silhouette and style I always loved when I saw in blogs or magazines) and knew it was the one. It didn’t make me look older or more sophisticated, but I decided to not care! I loved the neckline and how swishy the skirt was without being too full. It was so fun to dance and spin in, and so, so comfortable. My veil took the longest to choose—I ultimately wanted something almost invisible and light as air, so selected a single-layer long veil that I loved draping over one shoulder like a ponytail.

this-maine-barn-wedding-serves-up-muted-colors-and-a-bit-of-edge-7

I’m a total flower nut, so seeing my bridal bouquet for the first time was something I was most looking forward to. The look I asked my florist to create for me was something she hadn’t really done before, so I just had to trust in her genius (which I totally did!) All I had to go off was the inspiration I’d sent her and a few of the flowers she said she’d picked up, but otherwise, the rest of the bouquet was a total surprise! And she totally knocked it out of the park. When I saw my bouquet for the first time, I started crying. It was beyond any pin I’d ever seen. I had been stressed and nervous (in a good way, but still!) all morning and seeing that gorgeous bunch of soft blues and greens instantly soothed me. My bridesmaids bouquets were equally as stunning. It was just a perfect, perfect moment. After that it was like everything became more real. I felt SO ready!

80% of our guest list was comprised of friends and family from out of town, so it was so important for us to make sure they all had the greatest time. Making sure our guests were safely transported, well-fed and entertained was what I was most stressed about throughout the whole wedding-planning process, but it totally paid off on our wedding day, because everyone seemed so present and relaxed and happy to be together.

this-maine-barn-wedding-serves-up-muted-colors-and-a-bit-of-edge-14

For my bridesmaids, I wanted everyone to have the freedom to wear what made them feel lovely, so I gave them a palette of muted tones and let them go wild! I didn’t even see all the dresses together till the morning of my wedding, but sure enough, they worked out amazingly together. I knew the matching dress lengths and flower bouquets would pull everything together. And I loved that my Maid of Honor chose a jumpsuit. She looked gorgeous and it was so her. I could never imagine making them wear something they didn’t choose themselves!

How can I pick just one most memorable part? The one that comes to mind first would be the feeling of standing up at the ceremony altar just me, Joe and Isla, my very best friend and our officiant. We opted to have our bridesmaids and groomsmen sit down in the front row during the ceremony after the processional, so when it was just me up there with these two people that are so, so dear to me, it felt so intimate and special. Not everyone gets to have their best friend officiate their wedding to their other best friend! That was just one moment that day when I felt like the luckiest girl in the world.

Our photographer Jamie was one of the best (if not THE best) wedding vendor decisions we made. We were both so happy to have Jamie there on our wedding day. In the months leading up to our day, I remember thinking, even if something goes wrong or not according to plan, Jamie will make it gorgeous no matter what. A great photographer is like an insurance plan! My favorite moment was when she grabbed Joe and I for a quick photo session in this field outside our venue at sunset. It was so relaxing to escape the hubbub of the reception for a little while and just take in the evening air and soak in the excitement of being married. And the photos that resulted are pure magic!

this-maine-barn-wedding-serves-up-muted-colors-and-a-bit-of-edge-35

Don’t feel bad if planning your wedding isn’t the magical experience everyone makes it out to be. As our wedding date got closer and the pressure and to-do list tasks mounted, I started realizing that I really didn’t enjoy planning! It wasn’t that I wasn’t excited for our wedding day, or grateful for all the help and love we were getting, or excited to be married to Joe—I just genuinely didn’t like the enormous amount of pressure on me, and all the moving parts! I’m sure this feeling is more common than not, but no one talks about it. And it made me feel guilty, like I was a bad person for not enjoying it. Now that I’m on the other side, I realize that it isn’t really fair that brides are supposed to take on the HUGE task of planning (mostly entirely by themselves, usually on top of their day jobs) AND totally LOVE it too! It’s OK to not enjoy the planning part — as long as you’re doing what you and your partner want, not what anybody else wants, and you know it’ll pay off in the end (mine did!).
