This Colorful Starling Lane Vineyard Wedding Reception Gives Us Major Wonderland Vibes

March 26, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Calli and Sean’s Starling Lane Vineyard wedding celebration is full of vintage charm. These two previously eloped and opted for an intimate post-elopement celebration with their closest family and friends. Although it was small in size, it was big in celebration. Calli and Sean turned to Blue Lily Events to help with planning and executing a fun celebration with all the summer vibes. Sean wore the most perfect Indochino light blue suit for the occasion, and Calli looked stunning in her vintage-inspired Anna Campbell wedding dress and hair accessory. With so many pops of color, unique details, and a subtle nod to the 1920s, Luke Liable Photography was there to photograph all of the goodness.

Calli and Sean

The Wedding:

Starling Lane Vineyard, Victoria, BC, Canada

Getting a planner for us was a no brainer, even with our small gathering. Its just smart to get all the right people in your corner.

Sean and I were adamant on color for our day. Sean really didn’t want a black suit, but instead something that would go well with the venue and the end of summer vibe, which is why he chose a nice lighter blue suit with iridescent swordfish shoes. I originally was going for a simpler look, but when I tried on my Anna Campbell dress, I knew that wasn’t going to happen. I love how the dress was understated but still had a Gatsby vibe to it. The crystals and beading were beautiful but not overdone, with the bottom of the dress’s light fabric. My favorite piece was a tie between my Anna Campbell headpiece and my Irregular Choice cat shoes; as crazy cat people, I had to represent.

We really wanted something cozy, outdoors with color and had a greenhouse. When we visited Starling Lane, it was right after a snow fall but we knew instantly this was the right place. It had so much charm and warmth.

We really wanted it to be a very personal day. Sean and I are fairly private people, which is why we chose to elope, but we still wanted to do something to celebrate with everyone. We wanted our reception day to just be a day we were surrounded by everyone we loved. We wanted the day to not only be about our love for each other, but about our love for everyone present as well. It was important to us that it was relaxing, informal and full of warmth, so we wanted to make sure we were working with people who had the same vision and vibe.

Working with Luke was great! He was so easy to work with and had some great ideas. He got our vibe right away and it was very relaxing to work with him. He was respectful of our time, and didn’t intrude at all with us and our guests.

Tam from Blue Lily Events was amazing! She was thoughtful and super patient. She went above and beyond to help us with the planning and execution of our day. Never once did she say she couldn’t do something, or scoff at any idea. She gave our small intimate event the same amount of attention and dedication as she would have a larger event.

Minimalist Chic St. Paul Wedding at Paikka

March 26, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Katharine and Caleb’s vision for a modern and minimalist wedding came true at Paikka. The event space’s industrial vibes went hand-in-hand with the minimalist decor and Kindred Blooms florals that decorated the space. As if Katharine and Caleb’s ceremony and reception weren’t stylish enough on their own, Katharine rocked a modern wedding dress from The White Room and Caleb stayed true to his style by wearing deep khaki pants and a button down from ASOS. There are so many things to obsess over, but we are partial to the burnt orange jumpers from Movint that the bridesmaids are doing a favor by wearing – hello, heart eyes! Photographer Matt Lien captured the day and he did not disappoint – get ready for an abundance of joy spilling out from the photographs and one of the cutest reactions after a first kiss to date!

The Couple:

Katharine and Caleb

The Wedding:

Paikka, Saint Paul, Minnesota

Caleb actually came over to my apartment and picked me up on the morning of our wedding and the two of us went to a secluded coffee shop. We wanted to begin the crazy day just being content in each others presence. While we were there we exchanged gifts – Caleb gave me a gold bracelet and dainty gold earrings, I gave him a cognac leather Fossil wallet. And of course, both being words people, we exchanged letters.

The thing that ended up being the most memorable for us was, throughout the day we made a conscious choice to stop everything we were doing and take in everything happening around us. This allowed us to feel the gravity of the day and the gift that it all was to us. I get giddy just thinking about it!

For our wedding party, the girls wore burnt orange jumpsuits and cream colored mule slides. The boys wore khaki pants, untucked white button downs with off white bowties, and off white converse sneakers.

Our whole wedding day fashion look was definitely true to our typical style. We both wanted to just feel like ourselves on our wedding day and not overly done up. My wedding day look was minimalistic, chic and timeless. I’m not a big girlie girl, so I knew from the get-go that I wanted a really simple dress. To go along with the theme, my makeup was also very simple, sans a pop of burnt red on my lips! My dress was the most comfortable thing ever, I wish I could just wear it everyday.

The thing that was the most important to us was making sure each part of our wedding was true to who we are. And maintaining our quirky ideas while still hearing out the opinions of our loved ones!

We both have very specific taste, but along with that are also really low maintenance. From the start, we knew we wanted a really minimalistic, unique vibe – but we were sure to be adaptable and easy going when something didn’t fit our vision exactly.

MATT IS LITERALLY A DREAM. He was laid back and easy going while simultaneously being on top of things and always in control of the situation. It was so clear that he is a pro and knows exactly what he is doing but it also felt like we were just bopping around town with one of our best friends, occasionally taking photos. We have nothing but the best things to say about Matt.

Vintage-Inspired North Carolina Wedding at Windy Hill Farm

March 25, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

When Katherine and Matt began planning their wedding at Windy Hill Farm, they knew nature and community had to be the focal points. Their relationship was forged by their love of laying under trees, exploring their connection to God through nature, so of course their wedding ceremony had to take place in a beautiful wooded area on the farm’s property. They also made it a point to not only have a DIY wedding but to have their creative friends help in every way possible, from building the ceremony arch to designing the paper goods to baking all the treats for their overflowing dessert table. We absolutely love that they used a vintage-inspired vibe to create both an elegant feel and to seamlessly integrate nods to Katherine’s hispanic culture throughout the day. Vera Gayazov Photography perfectly captured this beautiful celebration from beginning to end and allowed us to fall more in love with this wedding and this gorgeous couple with every photo!

One of the most stressful surprises on the wedding day was to have my hair and makeup person not show up to her appointment. Once I realized she was not coming, I didn’t know what to do. Thankfully, my bridesmaids lovingly and masterfully took control over the situation. I was sitting on the couch not believing what was happening while they served me tea, prayed with me, gathered their make-up and hair tools and did my entire look in perfect timing! Although it was a scary time for a little bit, to have all my bridesmaids come together in such a way to surround me with their love in the midst of a very difficult situation really changed my perspective on the entire ceremony. It made me understand that although all eyes were on us as the couple, we were really only able to stand there because our family and friends had carried us thus far.

We knew we wanted a wedding outdoors in the middle of vast fields because our love flourished from a common love for laying under trees and collecting leaves. This is how we feel the most in communion with our faith and the world around us. When we got to Windy Hill Farm and walked around the farm in a beautiful late afternoon taking enough time to stare at the cows and get to meet the goats, we knew that the beauty, tranquility and love that abounded in that place was what we wanted our guests to experience.

We arranged it so that our ceremony was entirely given simultaneously in English and Spanish, to emphasize not only where Katherine comes from but also how much this union was Matt’s entrance into her world. The two signs that rested in the arch read portions of Psalm 126, one of Katherine’s favorite psalms and a poem that she has carried as a sign of God’s faithfulness throughout her life. Our ceremony also included communion that was shared with all our friends and family as a sign that we were not entering this marriage alone but with each of them as our support.

The most memorable part of the wedding was to spend our day surrounded by the love of our friends and family. We saw this in each of the wedding details. Everything from the arch to the wedding program, the painted signs, and even the candle holders were created by friends. We also made our dessert table completely out of their contributions. We had our friends baked us so many delicious treats like pies, scones, cookies, flan, alfajores, and even our wedding cake. It was an incredibly special touch to be surrounded by their love in this way.
