Free-Spirited Westminster Wedding at Montagu Meadows with a Retro Twist

January 27, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Corinne and Gordon’s outdoor wedding at Montagu Meadows had all the dreamy free-spirited vibes we love with an unexpected retro twist! The bride paired her gorgeous bohemian-inspired Rue De Seine gown with layered chokers and long necklaces and finished the look with fabulous floral-print platform booties for a fresh take on classic boho style. With the help of Katie Price Events & Design and Steelcut Flower Co.,  the couple accentuated the garden venue with rich floral bouquets, handmade dream catchers, hand-painted tambourines, and vintage table decor. It’s clear in these images captured by Shunkwiler Photography that, although the feel was free-spirited, every detail was thoughtfully and intentionally designed. Corinne and Gordon’s laid-back personalities truly were reflected in every moment of their incredible day!

For my wedding day fashion and beauty look, I wanted everything to be very bohemian and natural. I styled my hair down and wavy. I wanted my makeup to be warm and glowy. As for my dress, when I found Rue De Seine, I knew that they would have my wedding dress. All of their dresses are so incredible, beautiful, and unique. I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect dress. Then when I found my shoes, it was just kismet.

My husband and I actually wrote out exactly what we wanted our officiant to say. It started with a nod to the Princess Bride and incorporated a more modern version of the Irish hand-fasting tradition. We also decided early on that we wanted all of our youngest nephews and our niece to be a part of the ceremony. So I thought there would be no better way to include them than to have them be our little tambourine children. My Maid of Honor and I hand-painted each of their tambourines and they started the ceremony with a march to Cat Steven’s “Peace Train.”

During our ceremony, we had planned to have a reading. When we chose our poem, “The Privileged Lovers” by Rumi, we both knew that we wanted my husband’s sister to do the reading. But she had already offered to take care of so many other things, I didn’t have the heart to ask her to do this too. The day of the wedding, my husband asked her, and she of course said yes. It was the best surprise for her to come up and do the reading!

My bridesmaids wore rich fall colors to match my bouquet in different styles to match their unique personalities.

During the reception there was a worm-off. My husband’s cousin started it off, followed by my brother in-law with a backwards version, and then my husband’s uncle. It was absolutely hilarious!
