Shell and Graham knew they wanted their Braisty Estate wedding to reflect their very favorite things, so they combined impeccable graphic design with organic forest vibes to achieve the event of their dreams! This talented couple DIYed every design element of their wedding by making their signage, sourcing their stunning tablescapes, and pouring their cement plant pots. We love every detail of Shell and Graham’s ceremony, from their motorcycle processional to the bales of hay for their guests to sit on. Shutter Go Click Photography captured the couple’s day beautifully, including the full-blown Charleston dance routine they surprised their guests with!
Shell and Graham
Braisty Estate, Yorkshire, United Kingdom
We wanted a wedding that was fun and reflected us. We are both creative people and wanted to put our own stamp on it. We wanted to have a fun, relaxed wedding and it was important for us to have it in Yorkshire (we are both proud Yorkshire people!!)
The motorbike in the pictures was the first motorbike I sat on as a child back in the 80s. Motorbikes were always a part of my life, often spending some of my teenage years on the back of my dad’s bike. This bike had been sat in the back of the garage, forgotten about for the last 20 odd years. My dad fully restored the motorbike so he could escort me to the wedding. I knew nothing about it, what a guy!!!
Getting married in the woods was the most memorable part of our wedding. We had so much faith in the British weather and we really wanted to marry in an outdoor setting. That moment was truly so memorable, Graham wrote an adapted version of ‘I wanna be yours’ by John Cooper Clarke and read his own version to me.
We finished the ceremony by popping open our favourite Icelandic beer ‘Einstok’ which was also the drink we cracked open after Graham proposed in Iceland!
Ryan of Shutter Go Click Photography was amazing. Ryan was really relaxed and captured all the moments that we wanted. He had a great eye for capturing all those special moments at your wedding. He really made us feel at ease!! Graham and I are not ones for posed photos…its not us, we much prefer the candid shots!
Yorkshire is a beautiful part of the world. (Yorksherrrrrr!) We always tell everyone to go to Brimham Rocks when they visit and the fact we could get married looking on to it was perfect for us. The venue was a genuine ‘blank canvas’ where we could do everything we wanted to do without any restrictions. We were so excited to marry in the woods and have the outdoor space and the cracking views!!!
I made the bunting in the wood and the marquee, baked a selection of the cakes, made all the chutneys for the cheese cake, made the runners for the tables, made the lavender confetti cones and made the sloeGin/blackberry Gin.
Graham is a graphic designer and designed and printed all the invites, the favour bags, the seating plan, all the information boards, the quizzes…right down to the baking paper the cakes sat on….anything that was designed, it was done by Graham!
We gave each guest a brown bag containing a bottle of Einstok beer (to toast with), a mustard plastic cup(to sip homemade (G)in and (S)oda), a sparkler and an after eight to play the infamous ‘After Eight’ game. We liked the idea of people creating memories from the day to take away with them rather than having a physical gift!
We surprised all of our guests with a full Charleston dance routine that we put together ourselves for the first dance…no one was expecting that!!!
