Whimsically Elegant Georgia Wedding at Dunaway Gardens

August 26, 2018 | juliette

Rachel and Andrew’s wedding at Dunaway Gardens was a beautiful mix of bohemian and classic styles. The couple wanted mother nature to be the star of the show, so they chose a woodsy garden just outside of Atlanta for their ceremony that was naturally effortless and whimsically romantic. Their natural color palette and the simple bouquets created by Southern Stems added a bohemian elegance to the entire look and their intimate reception with DIY centerpieces and succulent favors perfectly blended the natural, laid-back feel they wanted. Haleema Manzur Photography did a phenomenal job capturing every dreamy moment of this sweet summer wedding!

The Couple:

Rachel and Andrew

The Wedding:

Dunaway Gardens, Coweta County, Georgia

While the day is obviously about us, it was really important for us to have the people we love there and having fun together. To us, marriage is a really unique metaphor for our relationship with God, and we wanted to bring the focus as much as possible beyond ourselves and into a larger truth.

We are both such a mixture of classic and bohemian, and as strange as that combination might be, I wanted our wedding to reflect the laid-back and natural way we live our lives but also hold a classic, old-world elegance.

Don’t sweat the small stuff and pick a venue that speaks for itself. I planned the wedding while in school full time and working around 30 hours a week, so it choosing the gardens to get married in was perfect. The beautiful plants and scenery really gave off the natural beauty I was looking for without having to curate everything myself from scratch.

I love mixing DIY in wherever I can! I did my own hair and make-up, and the table centerpieces were all designed by me, executed by my amazing mom. The green leaves on all of the reception tables were cut off trees in our yard by my brothers and dad the morning of! We also stuffed all the bags of lavender for the send-off ourselves and I watercolored and wrote all of the table assignment cards.

During the reception, Andrew picked up one of the guitars and started playing, so I jumped on the mic and we got to sing and play a song together for the first time as a married couple. That has been an important bonding thing for us our entire relationship, so it was a really cool and fun moment.
