Wedding Planning Inspiration from the Masters of Fashion Photography

May 14, 2008 | editorial team

If you’re a regular reader of Junebug it’s probably rather obvious that fashion and photography are two of our true loves around here! I’m endlessly blown away by the creativity, artistry and narrative power of both clothing and images, and when the two are combined in great fashion photography, I’m beside myself with adoration. The other day I stumbled upon some images from Chris Nicholls on the lovely blog This Is Glamorous and ended up on his website. Jackpot! Gallery upon gallery of gorgeous fashion and beauty images that lend so much style inspiration to every aspect of wedding planning. The clothing, the accessories, the color palette, mood and theme, and even the style of the photos themselves. Can you picture yourself in one of these images? Now my new favorite hobby is checking out the websites and online portfolios of the famous fashion photographers I love, and soaking in their creative genius.

Legendary photographer Patrick Demarchelier always wows me with his timeless look. The black and white images could come from any era, and he captures such a romantic yet modern quality in the women he photographs. Photos from Demarchelier.com and Style.com.

Chris Nicholls is a master of creating a mood and an emotional quality that just radiate from his photos. I love all of the accessories and over the top styling in these images as well as the lovely vintage look and interesting color palettes of so many of them. Photos from ChrisNichollsPhotography.com.

Men’s Wear Ideas for Summer Weddings

May 12, 2008 | editorial team

DETAILS Magazine’s May issue features a fun story about men’s black tie fashion for summer time weddings. With some helpful information about the basics (like the difference between a shawl collar, notch collar and peak lapel) and some creative ways to make formal looks more casual in the warm weather, it’s a great illustrated story! Check it out on Mens.Style.com, and be sure to visit Junebug’s Flickr pool of men’s wear photos for inspiration too!

I recently got the chance to talk fashion with our favorite local Haberdasher, Jeff Collins from MyHaberdasher.com (he made my boyfriend a gorgeous black suit- love it!) and he always has a great perspective and fantastic ideas about how to do men’s formalwear right. He told me that grooms should consider buying a suit or tux instead of renting if they’ll have the opportunity to wear it 3-4 times a year, or if they just want a special memento of their day. When doing suits instead of tuxedos Jeff says, The groom’s and groomsmen’s outfits are usually made for each man individually out of the same cloth, but some grooms like to wear something a little different to stand out in the wedding party. Maybe he’s in black and the groomsmen are in charcoal grey. Or for a summer wedding outdoors during the day he’s in tan and they wear brown. He can also take the formal and make it more casual by introducing pattern and color into the shirt, tie, pocket square, or other accessories.” Thanks Jeff!

Most of all, he should love what he’s wearing and feel like a million bucks. What better opportunity to enjoy a little (or a lot) of fashion fun!

Real Weddings- Diane and Mark

May 9, 2008 | editorial team

Today’s Real Wedding took place last August at the beautiful Pacific Northwest destination, The Inn at Port Ludlow, and was the perfect reflection of everything this lovely couple holds dear. Just three months before the wedding, Diane and Mark’s darling daughter Charlotte was born, so their marriage wasn’t only about honoring the two of them, but celebrating their whole family. During the ceremony Mark held Charlotte (the “best baby”) in his arms as Diane walked down the aisle, and as they all stood together at the alter there wasn’t a dry eye in the house! Photographers Kim and Adam Bamberg from La Vie Photography captured all the action, and wedding coordinator extraordinaire, Jody from Good Taste Events, helped the new parents create a wedding that was a joy for all who attended. From the handmade favors of lip balm and soaps, to the apple harvest place cards and decor details in an ivory and champagne color palette, it was a stunningly beautiful and meaningful event!

The evening before the wedding, Diane and Mark skipped the traditional rehearsal dinner and had a special ceremony blessing their new little bundle of joy, Charlotte Grace. Each guest wrote down their personal wishes for her life, and hung a card listing the qualities they would help teach to Charlotte in a tree that would later be planted in their yard. So sweet! It was a weekend full of events that celebrated every aspect of their lives. How perfect. Be sure to check out our Real Weddings section for more information on Mark and Diane’s talented wedding team.
