Junebug’s Favorite Beauty Product Basics

June 16, 2008 | editorial team

Ok product lovers, this post is for you! In lieu of the fabulously fancy beauty treats I usually lust after and write about, I thought I’d give some props to our favorite drugstore beauty basics. I asked my Junebug Weddings team members to raid their medicine cabinets, bathroom counters and purses to tell me about their favorite tried and true products that are easy to find, easy on the wallet, and always work like a charm. Sometimes, the basics are the best!

I happen to be a bit of a product junkie, and my cabinets are over flowing with treasures, simple and fancy alike. My mascara mainstay is Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara, and my everyday concealer is L’Oreal True Match Concealer, and Basis Cleaner Clean Face Wash removes it all perfectly at the end of the day. Squeaky clean! My toes are perpetually painted red and this Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Nail Color in Honeymoon Red is the perfect shade that stays on for ages without chipping. When I want to straighten my hair, John Frieda Frizz-Ease Hair Serum always gives it a soft, smooth texture. For shaving there’s nothing like Kiss My Face Moisture Shave and my daily ritual wouldn’t be complete without this true classic, Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Lotion. I adore its beachy cocoa butter scent! Last but not least, when I’m lucky enough to actually be at the beach, Neutrogena Sunblock Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 30 is super strong to protect skin from damage, but soaks right in and feels absolutely weightless.

Kim likes to keep things simple with great skin and great tools. She started using Proactive before her own wedding to ensure she had clear skin on her big day, and it worked so well she has been using it ever since. Daily upkeep with her Tweezerman Deluxe Eyelash Curler and Tweezerman SPA Slant Tweezers, a swipe of everyone’s favorite Maybelline Great Lash Washable Mascara and a little minty flavored color from Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer in Fig and she’s out the door!

Beautiful Blair is all about fabulous hair care products to keep her color shiny and bright. She loves Artec Kiwi Coloreflector Shampoo and Artec Textureline Smooth Smoothing Conditioner in the shower followed by Schwarzkopf Professional Bonacure BC Hairtherapy Repair Rescue in her hair and Neutrogena Visibly Even Daily Moisturizer with SPF 15 on her face for healthy, glowing skin.

Katy (our new and ever-so-adorable team member) is our resident lipgloss lover and is all about the fun new finds. She starts her day with Neutrogena Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 and loves both the Rimmel Colour Rush Quad Eyeshadows and Maybelline Full ‘N Soft Mascara. Her current lipgloss obsessions are Revlon SuperLustrous Lipgloss in Pink Afterglow (Katy’s tip- put a little on your cheeks for a subtle pink shimmer!) and L’Oreal Colour Juice Sheer Lip Gloss in Berry Burst

Aren’t beauty products fun? What are your favorite beauty basics?

Real Weddings- Christine and Lawrence

June 13, 2008 | editorial team

This Real Wedding is a feast for the eyes, as incredible photography was one of the main priorities for the lovely couple, Christine and Lawrence. Wanting wedding photos that captured their love of cinema they chose to work with (one of our very favorite guys) Joey Hong of John and Joseph Photography, and boy did he deliver! I am blown away by these images and can only imagine the joy of having such incredible wedding keepsakes.

Christine and Lawrence hosted an intimate reception at the Andretti Winery in Napa, California where the enclosed gardens were decorated with twinkling lanterns and the Tuscan details surrounded them with beauty. The winery was important to them because they wanted a romantic place they could return to every year, and they just got back from visiting for their very first anniversary! How sweet!

Their wedding color palette of cream, pink and green perfectly matched their springtime surroundings and Christine’s delicate lace detailed dress from Youlin Tsai just couldn’t have looked more beautiful on her. Bringing together their families and loved ones was hugely important to these two, so during the reception they set up a screen “drive-in-movie” style and played a video for their guests of their lives and love story set to music, then they all laughed, celebrated and danced the night away under the glowing lantern light.

Woodsy Wedding Details and Decor from Bell’occhio

June 11, 2008 | editorial team

San Francisco’s famed specialty store Bell’occhio has always held a special place in my heart, and now with all these woody green wedding details they’ve created I think I love them even more! Imagine an moonlit forest wonderland or Midsummer Night’s Dream themed wedding, with your wedding cake on top of their faux bois cake stand that looks like a tree trunk festooned with moss and twigs, tea lights tucked in your real moss table runners and place cards held up by their wee log place card holders. Gauzy cotton wedding favor bags tied with their light green leaf ribbon or dark green fabric ox wood garland and labeled with their simple wooden tags. Signs and place mats made with their amazingly versatile blackboard oilcloth, and your guest book table covered in wood grain oilcloth and featuring a French inspired wooden box for guest’s best wishes to be sealed into for posterity. Love! Thanks Bell’occhio!
