Gread Reads- Books for your Honeymoon

September 1, 2008 | editorial team

I’ve got vacation on the brain these days, so let’s talk honeymoons! More specifically, let’s talk books for your trip. Every vacation needs a good read for the plane, the beach, or a lazy afternoon. It’s got to be a page-turner that’s fun to read, but that’s also easy enough to toss aside when it’s time for more important honeymoon activities! Here are a few of my favorite recent vacation reads…

The Time Travellers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger- I couldn’t put this book down. It’s the story of Henry, a man who unexpectedly and uncontrollably time travels, and Clare, the woman he visits and falls in love with as he bounces around in time. Watching how their lives intercept over the years and how their love story unfolds is fascinating!

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory
The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory- Historical fiction crossed with soap opera drama. This book is packed full of opulence, intrigue, love and scandal, not to mention some seriously steamy romance!

Novels by Elinor Lipman
The Dearly Departed, Isabel’s Bed, Then She Found Me and The Inn at Lake Devine were all written by Elinor Lipman, who is a wonderful writer of funny, romantic, and clever stories of women finding their way. I once met Elinor Lipman when she was passing through Seattle on a book tour, and when I mentioned that all of my books had recently vanished due to a big theft, she promptly shipped me a giant box of books from her own overflowing collection. What generosity, and what a treasure! I am now a life long fan of both her, and her books.

DIY Wedding Project- Moo Mini Magnets

August 29, 2008 | editorial team

Moo Mini Cards have long been a Junebug favorite, and there is one craft project that’s always seemed like it would be an amazingly fun way to use these for wedding photos- Moo Mini Magnets! You can decorate your fridge, cabinets, a metal wall panel, or any other magnetic surface with handfuls of colorful little slivers of your wedding day. Start by choosing 100 of your favorite wedding photos, have a pack of Moo Minis made, follow the directions below, created by the oh-so-smart blogger and crafty lady from London Meg Pickard, and you’ll soon have “Moognets” of your own!

You will need: Moo mini cards, scissors, self-adhesive magnetic tape (20mm) – I got mine from ebay, but craft shops (especially model-making shops) may have it too – and a big, heavy book. Junebug note: try these links for the magnetic tape- The Container Store, Custom Magnets or Uline.

1. Chop lengths of magnetic tape with the scissors. The lengths should be about 1/2? or so. You will need two for each magnet. (Incidentally, I tried using one continuous strip of tape across the entire back of a card, but it was a bit too magnetic – difficult to lift off a magnetic surface, plus I figured if you can get away with using less tapemore moognets!)

2. Peel off the tape backing and stick one little square at each end of the back of a moo card

3. Put on a flat surface and lie under a heavy book. Not you, silly: the moognet. Because the tape is stored on a roll, and therefore wants to naturally curl, youll need to make sure the adhesive sticks flat to the card. A nice heavy book should handle that: I like John Peels autobiography – a truly weighty tome. Also good for reading.

4. Repeat, until your fingers get bored. Set up a little production line. Recruit some elves, or small children. Dont bother trying to get the cat involved, though: mine was having none of it.

5. You will soon have a nice juicy stack of moognets. You will feel chuffed. You should.

Announcing the Winner of the Lukab and Motwani Clutch!

August 29, 2008 | editorial team

We have a winner! Drum roll please…
ivory raw silk wedding clutch by Lukab and Motwani
the lovely Jordan is Junebug’s big winner of the Lukab and Motwani “Rumi” clutch. Congratulations Jordan! Her comment was chosen randomly with the help of the Random Integer Generator (there were so many great ones, how cold we have chosen ourselves?) and here’s what she had to say…

ooooh, shiny!

my real handbag would be filled with:

-pictures! (family, friends, and dad who just passed away)

-passport & plane tickets (to our dream honeymoon to italy, of course…we are dreaming, right?)

-alcohol minis: gin for me, jack for hubby ( to calm our ‘nerves’ ;)  )

-the rings (bc i know i will totally be the one to lose them)

-compact (which matches the clutch, of course)

-gloss (i must admit, dr. pepper lipsmackers is ‘my color’)

-bobby pins (bc im sure ill need more than the 870 that will already be in my hair)

and Mary Poppins would surely understand:

-both of our puppies (not allowed at the site :/ )

-’68 Chevelle (the one he hasnt yet finished restoring) to whisk us away at the end of the night

-iphone (i dont have one, so this will come in the dream bag…right?)

-cupcakes (yum.)

-dad

..okay the ‘real’ and ‘mary poppins’ list ended up overlapping a bit…

a girl can dream, cant she?

Thanks so much to all the readers who left such thoughtful comments. We had a fabulous time reading them all and getting to know each of you better. Thanks also to Lukab and Motwani for sponsoring this great give-away. Be sure to check out their website to get the “Rumi” for your own wedding, and to see all of their other beautiful designs.
