Grey, Silver and Berry Wedding Color Palette and Inspiration Board

September 5, 2008 | editorial team

After writing about my recent obsession with the color grey, I heard from Junebug reader Rachel who is planning a huge (800 person!) October wedding with a gorgeous grey color palette, and she asked for a little help putting together an inspiration board. Rachel filled me in on some of her wedding day details including her dress, shoes, cake topper, wedding party fashions and theme of “Modern Nature”, and I had a ball filling in the rest. Rachel, it’s going to be beautiful! Read on to hear details about the upcoming wedding in her own words…

From Rachel:

Our wedding is in October at 6pm at a large convention center because we’re having 800 guests!!! We’re East African so it’s a huge cultural wedding. The theme is modern nature: birds on the invites, pair of bird cake toppers, branches in the centerpieces, feathers in my bouquet, etc. We want a modern look but with warmth. We just want the reception to be inviting, romantic and energizing!

The men will wear black tuxes. The bridesmaids are wearing floor length silk dupioni dresses in mauve that have a black undertone so they look more purple than pink. Each dress (all 9 of them) will have a different neckline but all will be a fit-and-flare or mermaid shape. They’re also wearing pewter color accessories with filigree designs.

I’m wearing a dress with a grey sash, a cathedral length ivory veil and sparkling metallic sandals. My earrings are long chandeliers with crystals and light brown stones. My bouquet will be made from white anemones, roses, lillies, crystals and white feathers. The stems will be wrapped with ivory ribbon and a wide band of rhinestones. My hair will be in a low, loosely pinned bun with a fabric and crystal flower.

Gread Reads- Books for your Honeymoon

September 1, 2008 | editorial team

I’ve got vacation on the brain these days, so let’s talk honeymoons! More specifically, let’s talk books for your trip. Every vacation needs a good read for the plane, the beach, or a lazy afternoon. It’s got to be a page-turner that’s fun to read, but that’s also easy enough to toss aside when it’s time for more important honeymoon activities! Here are a few of my favorite recent vacation reads…

The Time Travellers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger- I couldn’t put this book down. It’s the story of Henry, a man who unexpectedly and uncontrollably time travels, and Clare, the woman he visits and falls in love with as he bounces around in time. Watching how their lives intercept over the years and how their love story unfolds is fascinating!

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory
The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory- Historical fiction crossed with soap opera drama. This book is packed full of opulence, intrigue, love and scandal, not to mention some seriously steamy romance!

Novels by Elinor Lipman
The Dearly Departed, Isabel’s Bed, Then She Found Me and The Inn at Lake Devine were all written by Elinor Lipman, who is a wonderful writer of funny, romantic, and clever stories of women finding their way. I once met Elinor Lipman when she was passing through Seattle on a book tour, and when I mentioned that all of my books had recently vanished due to a big theft, she promptly shipped me a giant box of books from her own overflowing collection. What generosity, and what a treasure! I am now a life long fan of both her, and her books.

Share your own favorites, what are you reading on your honeymoon?
