We’ve been lucky enough to showcase a number of New York weddings recently, and whether in Manhattan or deep Upstate, I just can’t get enough of their sophistication, beauty and personality-filled atmospheres. Today’s purple and gray wedding of Lindsey and Dan, photographed by the amazing Roey Yohai Photography, will show you just what I mean!

The Goals: Lindsey and Dan envisioned a comfortable, effortless and magical feeling wedding so they chose to host their weekend get-away celebration at a beautiful and relaxed private estate. “Our best decision was choosing a venue where we could spend time with our family and friends all weekend.” 123 guests joined them for their ceremony, reception, and rehearsal dinner, all of which were filled with music and joy!

The Design: With the help of wedding planner and designer Karen Bussen of Simple Stunning, Lindsey and Dan added wedding decor and floral design in deep purple and gray to the already spectacular estate grounds. What a combination! The invitations were designed by Mr. Boddington’s Studio, and welcome bags with all the essentials for the weekend were given to guests instead of favors. During the reception, a mixture of round and long wood tables were set for dinner with colorful patterned china, and clear ghost chairs added a sophisticated design element to the rustic barn atmosphere. Dessert was also a fun focus of the night, thanks to Corsino Cakes. “We didn’t have just one wedding cake. We had a main cake that was a simple, three-tier, vanilla bean flavor, but we also had a cake bar with seven different cakes of all different flavors (death by chocolate, lemon, peanut butter chocolate, etc.).”

The Look: Lindsey’s bias-cut satin Elizabeth Fillmore wedding gown is an absolute show-stopper, and was the fashion item that Lindsey loved the most. She wore it with diamond earrings borrowed from Jerry Blickman, and changed her hair from a vintage inspired finger wave up-do during the ceremony to a long, modern, loose hair style during the reception. I just don’t think she could have been a more gorgeous bride!

Lindsey’s sister acted as her maid of honor and wore a navy bridesmaids’ dress that Lindsey asked her to choose for herself. Dan wore a gray three piece suit, and in the palette of the day added just a hint of a purple pocket square. So dapper!

As a sweet nod to their families, during the ceremony Lindsey wore her Grandmother’s wedding band and Dan wore his Grandfather’s.

The Moments: Lindsey and Dan chose a traditional Jewish ceremony that incorporated their personalities, as well as all of their family members. One of Lindsey’s favorite memories was, “signing the ketubah with our family in the dining room before the wedding ceremony began. There was not a dry eye in the house!” Sweet surprises were a big part of the weekend – at their lively rehearsal dinner, Dan surprised Lindsey with a performance by her favorite singer, Mason Jennings, and during the cake cutting at the reception, he surprised her again with an impromptu speech. They danced their first dance to “Such Great Heights” from Iron and Wine, and they love looking back at the time they spent alone together immediately following the ceremony.

What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Classic, Artsy, International

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? I’m Persian, and Christian is Austrian, so it was important to us that both cultures be incorporated throughout the wedding, in our classic foggy San Francisco location. The architecture of the museum and surrounding statues created a European vibe. The wedding ceremony included Persian poetry, a Persian sofreh (a table filled with elements representing life), live violin music, and lots of Persian sweets.

We love spending time with family and friends so we made every effort to maximize mingling at the wedding. After the ceremony we had a long cocktail in the museums Rodin gallery and then moved to the reception to enjoy great food and drinks on long kings tables, before the dancing began.

Our favorite color, cheery, vibrant yellow, was incorporated into the decor throughout. Christian and I love a classic and elegant look with a trendy and artsy touch – we hoped the style of our wedding would accomplish just that.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? The beating/skipping of my heart as I said my vows and listened to Christians vows; seeing the smiles on my parents faces throughout the night; being surrounded by family and friends on the dance floor as we danced to a mix of Persian music and hip hop.
