If you love a good California cowboy setting and relaxed, rustic wedding details, then today’s wedding of Janine and Erik in San Juan Capistrano is for you!
What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day?Above all, we wanted the day to have a relaxed and fun environment. Our plan was to have the details all taken care of so that the guests, as well as us, could just enjoy, cut loose, and celebrate. The Mission let us dictate the depth of our spiritual commitment yet Father Donal made sure the ceremony had an air of humor and engaged our guests letting them see us through all the traditions. The part of us that considered doing a destination wedding felt at ease at Rancho Mission Viejo because the working ranch does not feel like part of Orange County that most see everyday. We wanted our reception to just be a party without too much pomp and structure, in a beautiful open outdoor space. Rancho Mission Viejo was ideal because kids could run around, and our guests could dance, mingle, do tequila shots at the bar, or just relax in an air conditioned tent. Erik especially felt right at home in the meadow because a couple times a week hes down on the ranch roping steers and riding horses with several of the guests. The ranch atmosphere really set the backdrop for our love of the outdoors, and offered the rustic feel and wild and free tone we wanted.
Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? As I walked toward the Chapel with my dad and heard the mariachis playing, I couldnt believe how amazing their music complimented the moment, they were beautiful. Father Donal honored our parents and grandparents by complimenting their marriages, and made all four of Janines grandparents get up and stand with us as a testimonial to over 60 years each of love and marriage working.
A beautiful seaside celebration, a radiant bride and groom, and photos that are alive with both beauty and emotion – what more could anyone ask for in this gorgeous Virginia wedding of darling couple Kate and Elliott?
The Couple: Kate and Elliott
The Wedding: 5.12.12 – The Bride’s Family Home, Newport News, VA
What three adjectives best describe your wedding?Casually elegant, lively, delicious!
What was your wedding color palette?Gray and cream
What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day?Kate has always loved Jane Austen, and that served as the design inspiration. We chose an outdoor setting on the water, and held cocktail hour in the English garden (which we planted ourselves a few months before the wedding).
We also love to cook and entertain, so we wanted the event to feel like a dinner party at our home. We chose long communal tables and tried to keep florals and decor simple. We did a lot ourselves, including making homemade limoncello, freshly squeezing all the juices for cocktails, and designing and assembling all the place card stirrers and favors.
Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? Were thrilled that we chose the house rather than a venue. It was significantly more work to organize everything ourselves, but it allowed us to choose all the details of our event.
What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today? There are a million traditions and great ideas that have evolved over the years into near-requirements for weddings. You can drive yourself crazy trying to incorporate all of these into your big day, so pick a short list of things that are most important to you and learn to let the rest go. Sometimes its the things you leave out that allow the other highlights to make the event so memorable.
