I’d say magic happened when photographer Erik Clausen teamed up with florist Ashley of Ashlilium and makeup artist Ms. Painted Lady to create this fabulous photo shoot. Fashion forward brides, get ready to swoon! Designer Rubin Singer has just launched an extraordinary bridal collection of couture wedding dresses filled with luxurious, intricate details and dramatic, architectural lines. Singer’s creativity is no surprise – he comes by his creative vision through family heritage. As a third-generation couturier, his father and grandfather before him dressed the Bolshoi Ballet and Russian royalty respectively! This debut bridal collection will be available at Kleinfeld and Neiman Marcus beginning in September 2013. What three adjectives best describe your vintage wedding?Unique, inviting, and joyful.
What was your wedding color palette? Different shades of purple with jewel tone accents.
What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day?We have a love of antiques and all things vintage. We incorporated a lot of items from our home and enjoyed hunting for additional pieces at antique shops in the area. We even wanted our activities to have a vintage vibe to them, so we had a silhouette artist and a photobooth with old fashioned props.
Overall, we just wanted our wedding to feel like one big celebration of our twelve year journey together. One way we were able to infuse our personalities was through our music choices, which ranged from The Turtles to The Arcade Fire to the theme from the movie Up. Friends read passages by e.e. cummings and Vincent van Gogh, and our bridesmaids and groomsmen held up signs reading FINALLY when we had our first kiss as husband and wife. The dance floor was packed all night and we topped it all off with a dance routine to Robyns Call Your Girlfriend. These lighter moments really reflected our personalities and sense of humor.
Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding?We really wanted to pay tribute to our grandparents who had been such an important part of our lives as a couple, but had passed away before the wedding. One of our officiants spoke of their influence on our lives as part of the ceremony.
It was also so meaningful to see Johns grandmother looking through the old wedding photos we had on display with tears in her eyes.
On a lighter note, we were happy that we encouraged everyone to meet new people throughout the night by using Party Pals – little vials containing clues about guests at the wedding. We loved watching people hunt for their new friends!
What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today? Dont let your fiance procrastinate with his wedding tasks! Just kidding (sort of). Stick to your guns and plan the wedding that you want to have and that you would want to attend. On the night of your wedding, make sure to take it all in and enjoy every moment. Throughout the night, you and your husband will be pulled in a million different directions. Make sure you set aside time to reconnect!
