Botanical Wedding Inspiration Photo Shoot at the Philadelphia Horticultural Center from Juniper & Dash

April 15, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Brought to us by Sarah Kudlack of Juniper & Dash, this gorgeous styled wedding inspiration photo shoot took place at the Philadelphia Horticultural Center where Lindsay Docherty Photography captured the beautiful organic details and design. There is so much to love about this shoot, but I have to say I absolutely adore the bride’s stunning wedding dress by Anna Campbell!

Here are a few words from Sarah Kudlack of Juniper & Dash on the inspiration for this lovely photo shoot…

The Inspiration: It has been a long winter here in the Northeast and we’ve all been starving for signs of spring. We knew we wanted color in this shoot! We proposed a color palette of navy, sage, mustard with pops of fuchsia to our awesome vendors and let their creativity fly!

The Details: The stunning floral arrangements and chuppah were crafted by the lovely Kate Farley. We discussed texture, texture, texture and she more than delivered with all the lovely eucalyptus, silver brunia, ivy, and dusty miller. The Horticultural Center was the perfect space for the shoot because of all the vibrant foliage thriving in the gorgeous Philadelphia greenhouse. We created a nontraditional head table: an L-shape with farm tables. It’s a great way for the bridal party to have a better view of one another while still looking out on the reception area. Jessa with Squeeze My Hand Letterpress collaborated with Kate (who created beauty with flowers AND hand-lettering) and they brought to life the wonderful stationery suite. Kate also created those amazing place mats! Samirah with Suga put together a delicious milk and cookie bar along with a fabulous gilded cake. The butterscotch ones were a particular favorite. Sugar Philly provided the French blue macarons – such a unique color that you don’t typically see in macrons; they were equally as yummy!

The Look: The bride wore a stunning Anna Campbell dress, completely handmade in Australia. The back of this dress was so intricately detailed, it was truly amazing to see. Anna Campbell recently started bringing her collection to the US and we couldn’t be more thrilled to see more of her lovelies on local brides! The bride was adorned with Bario Neal’s 14k rose gold aquamarine halo engagement ring that I had to simply try on myself, and let me just tell you it was fabulous! Her band was a dainty rose gold fishtail wedding ring with a diamond inset to pair with our groom’s more rugged and textured rose gold band. If you look closely you’ll see something blue with sapphire slice earrings.

Elegant Winter Wedding in Florida with Photos by Dana Goodson Photography – Jordann and Adam

April 14, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

The picture of sophisticated elegance, Jordann married her sweetheart Adam surrounded by family and friends in Gainesville, Florida on New Year’s Eve. Crystal Marek of Style & Grace Events created a secret garden oasis with twinkling bistro lights that provided romance beyond words and Dana Goodson‘s photos capture the atmosphere so beautifully.

The Couple: Jordann and Adam

The Wedding: 12.31.2013 – Sweetwater Branch Inn, Gainesville, Florida

The Goals: As a couple, the main priority was the wedding date. This was very important to us. It was the anniversary of when we started dating and not only that, but also a symbol of starting anew. It wasn’t the easiest thing, planning a wedding on a Tuesday that was also a holiday, but we stuck to our guns on that one. We loved the idea of having a sweet Black Tie New Year’s Eve party (that also happens to be our wedding) with our closest friends and family.

The Design: We wanted an intimate, natural setting with some personality. We had mostly cocktail tables to encourage movement throughout the late night. The venue was like a nighttime secret garden with plenty of twinkly lights. The vintage style carried over into our seating area with its loveseat and wingback chairs, the low centerpieces with their dusty, romantic hues, and the champagne and lace linens. All the while we kept black as a constant accent to reiterate the Black Tie theme. Cake and desserts were from our favorite bakeries in my hometown, Ocala, Florida.

The Look: Above all, I wanted to feel confident and comfortable. I wore blue velvet shoes, following the tradition of blue wedding shoes from my mother and sister. To be honest, my dress was the inspiration for the entire wedding. I built everything around it. The lace, the asymmetry, the not-quite-white color, the glitzy belt, the fact that it made me feel beautiful – all things that made it the perfect thing for me to wear as I married my honey. My makeup artist, Kendra Chaney did a smokey eye on me with defined brows, as I had a birdcage veil covering my face during the ceremony. My hair was pretty simple with some fingerwaves, allowing the veil to take center stage. The whole look was very coquettish, as was my intention. I wanted my bridesmaids to be individually beautiful with a fabulous lacey dress that suited their personality and style. They each had some kind of braid incorporated into their hairstyle.

The Moments: The “first look” we did with our photographer Dana Goodson was so special. Dana found a little park behind our venue and my sister, also my Maid of Honor, walked me to Adam, standing with his back to me. That allowed us to have a genuine, private moment that was just about us and our love before the whirlwind that was to ensue. I was calm and focused by the time the ceremony rolled around. Another fun moment was when I couldn’t get Adam’s ring on during the ceremony and really had to jam it on there. We got a laugh out of it and the light-heartedness I think Adam was looking for in our ceremony. His ring was a whole size too small.. oops. The best moment, though, was turning to face our guests after being pronounced husband and wife. Biggest. Smiles. Ever.

The Advice: Crystal, our wedding planner from Style & Grace Events, was invaluable the day of the wedding. I would have been worrying all day had I not been able to rely on her and her assistant. Even if you only hire a planner to coordinate the day-of, make the investment. It will take a lot off your shoulders. My advice is not to lose sight of your and your spouse-to-be’s vision for the special day. Everyone has an opinion of what you should do but it’s your wedding and you can do anything you want.

Classic and Intimate Wedding on Long Beach Island – Sarah DiCicco

April 11, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Kelly and Joe’s intimate wedding on Long Beach Island was equal parts glamour and relaxation. With champagne toasts in the morning, a brunch featuring colorful macaroons, the bride in a breezy silver beaded gown by Dennis Basso and portraits on the beach at sunset with Sarah DiCicco, everything about the day flowed naturally and fabulously. See for yourself how relaxed these two lovebirds look; they sure know how to do a wedding right!

The Goals: There were two major priorities for us. 1) Keep it simple — uncomplicated and enjoyable. While this day represents “a big deal” we did not want or need this event be a big deal. 2) Honor the legacy of our grandmother (and grandmother-in-law), Louise, whose refined and gracious nature has helped shape our approach and outlook as a couple.

The Moments: As the youngest generation of a family with a rich history on a small island, we are blessed to be surrounded by a community of friends. Although we had fewer than a dozen guests, it was an unexpected surprise to be greeted by our extended network of friends throughout the day. When we walked out of the chapel we were met with applause from the crowd that gathered to watch and wish us well (cried). When we arrived to our home from the chapel all of our neighbors cheered Joe on and came over to shake his hand (cried). And throughout the day we welcomed many to our front steps where my grandmother welcomed them in for food and drink, and paused along our travels to the beach to share well-wishes (more crying). So much unexpected cheering from so many around us…it was really special.

The Design: Life at the beach is extremely easy-going: the speed limit is 25 per mph, champagne is uncorked at breakfast, time is measured only by the sun, and one always seems finds oneself outdoors. Our home, built by a member of the family over a century ago, is rich with tradition: our house is always playing host, our stories are aplenty and are told often, we show respect by dressing for dinner (which extend well into the evening), and enjoyment is the task of the day. Naturally, we wanted this sense of leisure and personality to extend to our nuptials.

We had the great fortune to work with several expert professionals who helped us achieve this sense of easy sophistication and casual elegance. We gave minimal direction and were open to suggestions. Having established relationships with several of our vendors was key, and we trusted them to handle the details. Our custom invitations were produced on thick cream stock with scalloped edges trimmed in gold. Each piece was hand-calligraphed in a dusty brown ink, and personalized for each guest, as we wanted to add a hint of uniqueness to these keepsakes. We asked our floral designer to work within a palette of light pinks, creams, and light yellows, and encouraged her to keep things “leafy” and natural-looking. Garlands and wreaths complimented the cottage style of our home and the chapel.

Having photographs to remember our day was essential, but we left the artistic direction to our talented photographer, Sarah DiCicco. She helped us to create a proper timeline, and scouted out all of the picture locations herself. We just enjoyed having quiet moments to ourselves hanging out while she snapped away. It was perfect.

Our brunch menu was created and executed by our favorite duo, the owners of Pearl Street Market, a staple of island living. The meal was served true to form as family (and photographers) were seated on one long table bedecked in gold-toned china, surrounded by family photographs, and old mismatched chairs. The family enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and brunch fare that was representative of the food we spoil ourselves with at the beach. Guests enjoyed homemade key-lime pie for dessert and authentic macaroons – an excellent accompaniment to champagne.

Our family shared a plethora of advice, and many stories were swapped, which certainly was a fitting way to begin this next phase as a married couple.

The Look: Neither Joe nor I had a specific look in mind. Nor did we feel strongly about what our family wore. We wanted them to look and feel great…which they certainly all achieved! My sister and I shopped for my dress together, and my emphasis was placed on this experience rather than a type of dress I had in mind. However, I knew I did not want to wear a wedding dress. We went to Manhattan and bopped around with a very patient driver. I tried on every gown (long and short) that was suggested by my sister. We happened to pass by the Dennis Basso show room on Madison, and before you knew it, I had found THE ONE. It just felt lovely…like something that should be framed and put up on a wall. That was all I needed.

My trusted makeup and hair artists know my aesthetic all too well, and they really took my approach from description to reality. My makeup was fresh and minimal, and my hair was swept sweetly off of my face into a loose bun.

It goes without saying, Joe always looks great in a suit, so our approach was that this ensemble was to be a tad more celebratory to commemorate the day. We picked a summer inspired windowpane suit that Joe matched with a crisp white shirt, brown belt and shoes. We purchased a blue bow tie and white pocket square, and topped everything off with heirloom cuff links and belt buckle.

The Advice: Don’t fret the small stuff…there is no “right way” to get married, so make of it whatever you want. Be sure to set aside time during your wedding/reception to take it all in and spend time with your spouse.
